Dayton Flyers vs Drake Bulldogs Predictions Today

Game time: October 3, 2026 at 1:00 PM ET

Venue: Drake Stadium (IA) — Des Moines, IA

Article updated Oct 2, 11:42 PM EDT

By SportsJaw Editorial Team

Dayton will beat Drake 31-24, with the Flyers’ defense providing the strongest edge against a Bulldogs team allowing 43 points per game. Dayton also brings a productive rushing attack, but Drake’s passing offense threatens the projected margin. Neither Dayton -5.5 (-108) nor the total of 52.5 offers a strong enough betting edge. The official recommendation is Pass.

Dayton Flyers vs Drake Bulldogs prediction and best bet

Dayton’s balance makes the Flyers the pick in this 2026 college football matchup. They enter 3-0, averaging 30.0 points and allowing 13.7 per game. Their 204.0 rushing yards per game offer a plausible route to sustained possessions against a Drake defense conceding 43 points per game.

Drake has the passing production to challenge that advantage. Riley Warzynski threw for 371 yards and three touchdowns in the September 26 win at Davidson, when the Bulldogs exceeded 600 total yards. That threat matters more to the spread than to the winner selection. Dayton is the forecast, but laying 5.5 points leaves enough uncertainty to keep the official wager at Pass.

Odds, game time and how to watch

Kickoff: October 3, 2026, at 1 p.m. ET.

Venue: Drake Stadium in Des Moines, Iowa.

Records: Dayton is 3-0 and returns from a bye. Drake is 1-3 after ending a three-game losing streak with a 51-32 victory at Davidson.

SportsJaw odds: Dayton moneyline -210; Drake moneyline +170. Spread: Dayton -5.5 (-108), Drake +5.5 (-125). Total: Over 52.5 (-115), Under 52.5 (-115).

Community: Over 52.5 (-115) was the SportsJaw member leader at the October 3, 00:30 UTC update. That preference is separate from this forecast.

Dayton Flyers outlook

Dayton’s early results support a balanced offensive approach. The Flyers average 204.0 rushing yards and 181.0 passing yards per game, giving them reason to work through the ground game without abandoning the pass. Against Drake, sustained drives could serve two purposes: create scoring opportunities and reduce the possessions available to Warzynski.

Luke Hansen has 202 rushing yards and four touchdowns on 30 carries. Bryce Schondelmyer has completed 52 of 82 passes for 538 yards, four touchdowns and two interceptions. Hansen’s production makes him a central figure in the forecast, while Schondelmyer gives Dayton another way to attack if Drake commits extra attention to the run. Those numbers favor balance, though they cannot guarantee control of this game.

Defensively, Dayton ranks second in the FCS in red-zone defense. Ross Coppock, David Curl III and Steven McCalmont share the team lead with 16 tackles, and Curl has four tackles for loss. Keeping Drake out of the end zone after productive drives could be decisive.

The limitation is the three-game sample. Dayton’s 13.7 points allowed per game is encouraging, but Drake’s passing volume presents a substantial test. The Flyers last played September 19, winning at Eastern Kentucky before their bye.

Drake Bulldogs outlook

Drake’s 1-3 record comes with a meaningful offensive counterargument. The Bulldogs lead the Pioneer Football League in passing offense and total offense, averaging 450.5 total yards per game. Dayton’s preview lists Drake at 368.8 passing yards per game. That production makes the Bulldogs dangerous even against the stronger defensive profile in this matchup.

Warzynski has completed 127 of 211 passes for 1,399 yards, nine touchdowns and four interceptions through four games. Against Davidson, he completed 31 of 48 throws for 371 yards and three scores, adding 44 rushing yards on eight carries. His contribution on the ground gives Dayton another element to account for, although one game is too little to predict a similar rushing contribution here.

The 51-32 victory ended Drake’s three-game losing streak and supplied its most immediate reason for optimism. The Bulldogs need that offensive success to carry forward because their season scoring averages remain unfavorable: 28 points scored and 43 allowed per game.

That defensive number is the main reason to pick Dayton. Drake could keep this close by finishing drives with touchdowns, but asking its offense to compensate for another difficult defensive afternoon creates a narrower path to victory.

Key matchup factors

The decisive question is what happens when Drake’s passing gains turn into scoring chances. Dayton’s red-zone ranking suggests it can force some empty possessions or field goals. Drake’s yardage production suggests those stops may have to happen repeatedly. The forecast favors Dayton converting the more favorable defensive profile into a modest scoring advantage.

Possession length matters too. Successful Dayton rushing drives could reduce Drake’s opportunities, but rushing production alone does not guarantee a slower game or fewer points. SportsJaw members favor the Over, which fits Drake’s scoring potential. That community preference is not a sportsbook split or an estimate of the Over’s chance of winning.

Dayton Flyers vs Drake Bulldogs spread prediction

Pass on Dayton Flyers -5.5 (-108) and Drake Bulldogs +5.5 (-125). The projected Dayton 31, Drake 24 result puts the Flyers 1.5 points beyond the spread, a modest cushion given Drake’s passing threat.

Dayton’s defense and rushing production justify choosing the Flyers to win. They offer less certainty about the final margin. Drake’s offense supplies a credible case for staying close, but its 43 points allowed per game makes taking the home underdog uncomfortable too. Neither spread price offers enough advantage for a recommendation.

Dayton Flyers vs Drake Bulldogs total prediction

Pass on Over 52.5 (-115) and Under 52.5 (-115). The projected 55 points lean toward the Over, with Drake’s passing production and defensive struggles supplying the strongest scoring arguments. Dayton should have opportunities to improve on its 30.0-point average.

The opposing case rests on Dayton’s scoring defense and red-zone performance. If the Flyers turn several Drake drives into field goals or stops, the total could finish below the number. A projection 2.5 points above 52.5 is not enough by itself to justify paying -115 on the Over.

Dayton Flyers vs Drake Bulldogs projected score

Game forecast: Dayton Flyers 31, Drake Bulldogs 24. Confidence is medium. Dayton’s combination of rushing production, scoring balance and defensive results makes it the more convincing winner, while Drake’s points allowed create a favorable opportunity for the visiting offense.

The strongest counterargument is Warzynski’s ability to generate sustained passing production. His Davidson performance shows why Dayton may need to keep scoring rather than rely entirely on its defense. The Flyers get the nod in a competitive game, but the early-season samples and Drake’s offensive threat limit conviction about the margin. Both spread sides and both total directions remain passes at the supplied prices. The single official SportsJaw wager is Pass.
