Marist Red Foxes vs Stetson Hatters Predictions October 3, 2026

Game time: October 3, 2026 at 1:00 PM ET

Article updated Sep 30, 9:05 AM EDT

By SportsJaw Editorial Team

Marist will beat Stetson, with a projected score of Marist 31, Stetson 14. The Red Foxes’ 42-7 win over Presbyterian, featuring four touchdowns from Sonny Mannino and another blocked-kick contribution, supplies the strongest matchup reason. Confidence is low, however, and neither Marist -17.5 (-113) nor the total of 51.5 (-113) offers enough value for an actionable wager.

Marist Red Foxes vs Stetson Hatters prediction and best bet

Marist gets the nod because its latest performance combined offensive scoring with a special-teams touchdown. In the Sept. 26 victory over Presbyterian, Mannino ran for two touchdowns and threw two more to Isaiah Simmons. Jayden Taylor returned a blocked punt 24 yards for a score. Those contributions support the forecast of a Marist victory without requiring a repeat of the 35-point margin.

The official best bet is Pass. Marist needs to win by at least 18 points to cover -17.5, a much tougher assignment than simply winning. Its first three games were all single-digit decisions. That contrast makes the Presbyterian result encouraging for the winner forecast but insufficient to justify laying this spread.

Odds, game time and how to watch

Date and matchup: Saturday, Oct. 3, 2026. Marist visits Stetson in college football for its first Pioneer Football League road game of the season.

Venue: Spec Martin Memorial Stadium, De Land, Florida.

Weather: The Sept. 27 National Weather Service forecast calls for a 60% precipitation chance, possible thunderstorms, a high near 88°F and east winds of 5–10 mph, gusting to 20 mph.

SportsJaw odds: Marist -900; Stetson +456. Spread: Marist -17.5 (-113), Stetson +17.5 (-113). Total: Over 51.5 (-113), Under 51.5 (-113).

Marist Red Foxes outlook

Marist’s 42-7 win at Tenney Stadium opened its PFL schedule with a decisive result. Mannino contributed touchdowns both on the ground and through the air, with Simmons catching both touchdown passes. Kaden Beard added a 5-yard rushing touchdown. The distribution of those scores is encouraging: the forecast need not depend entirely on one receiver or one method of reaching the end zone.

Special teams deserve particular attention. Through Sept. 19, Marist had blocked a kick in each of its first three games: punts against New Haven and Lafayette, plus a PAT against Franklin Pierce. At that cutoff, Marist was tied for third in the FCS in total blocked kicks and second in blocked punts. Taylor’s touchdown against Presbyterian added another scoring contribution from that unit.

The defensive evidence is narrower but useful. Through Sept. 19, opponents had scored on eight of 13 red-zone trips, a 61.5% rate that ranked Marist 10th in the FCS. Only one trip produced a touchdown; seven ended in field goals. Keeping opponents out of the end zone is a persuasive reason to favor Marist, although those 13 trips are a limited sample and predate the Presbyterian game.

Stetson Hatters outlook

Stetson’s clearest route to a competitive game is to make Marist earn its points on sustained offensive possessions. The Hatters cannot afford to give away the sort of special-teams touchdown that helped Marist against Presbyterian. Punt protection is therefore a central matchup concern, though there is no verified Stetson protection statistic here that identifies it as an existing weakness.

Finishing drives matters just as much. Marist’s early red-zone numbers suggest that reaching scoring range and reaching the end zone have been very different challenges for its opponents. Stetson turning opportunities into touchdowns instead of field goals would challenge the projected margin. That is a condition for the upset case, rather than a demonstrated Hatters strength.

There is too little current Stetson performance or personnel detail to give the home team a convincing statistical case. Still, the lack of those numbers should not be mistaken for evidence of poor play. The home underdog needs to stay within 17 points to cover, and Marist’s earlier close games leave room for that outcome without requiring a Stetson victory.

Key matchup factors

The central question is how much of Marist’s latest scoring travels. Mannino’s rushing and passing touchdowns offer a more direct foundation for the forecast than assuming another blocked-punt touchdown. Marist’s repeated blocks make special teams relevant, but the projection should leave room for a game without a defensive or special-teams score.

Weather adds uncertainty in both directions. Rain and gusts could disrupt passing and kicking, while mistakes could also create favorable field position. The forecast is for the day in De Land, not a guarantee of conditions throughout the game. It strengthens the case for caution on the total without automatically favoring either Over or Under.

Marist Red Foxes vs Stetson Hatters spread prediction

Spread recommendation: Pass on Marist -17.5 (-113) and Stetson +17.5 (-113). The projected 17-point margin falls just inside Stetson’s number, but a half-point difference between an editorial forecast and the spread is too fragile to make the Hatters an official selection.

Marist’s first three games were decided by a combined 14 points before the 35-point win over Presbyterian. That range warns against treating either a close finish or another rout as inevitable. The winner preference is clearer than the margin preference, so neither spread earns a wager.

Marist Red Foxes vs Stetson Hatters total prediction

Total recommendation: Pass on Over 51.5 (-113) and Under 51.5 (-113). The projected score adds to 45 points, placing the forecast below the line. Marist’s early success forcing field goals instead of touchdowns helps explain that scoring expectation.

The counterargument is Marist’s 42-point performance and its ability to contribute points through special teams. Weather-related mistakes could also help scoring rather than suppress it. Without a reliable current measure of Stetson’s offense and defense, the six-and-a-half-point gap between the projection and total is not enough to endorse Under 51.5.

Marist Red Foxes vs Stetson Hatters projected score

Game forecast: Marist 31, Stetson 14. The Red Foxes are the pick to win on the strength of Mannino’s recent touchdown production, their repeated kick blocks and their early red-zone defense. The projection puts their scoring below the Presbyterian result while allowing Stetson more points than Marist conceded last time.

The strongest counterargument is that Marist’s first three games were much closer, and Stetson’s current form remains difficult to assess. Confidence is low. This is a winner forecast with considerable uncertainty around the margin and scoring, not a precise expectation of how each possession unfolds. Both market recommendations remain passes, and the single official SportsJaw wager is Pass.
