North Dakota will beat Northern Iowa 31-27, with Jerry Kaminski’s passing and rushing production supplying the strongest reason to favor the visitors. Northern Iowa’s efficient quarterback play, ball security and recent home upset make the Panthers competitive enough to recommend the spread at +12.5 (-127). That is the official wager; the total of 57.5 is a Pass.

North Dakota Fighting Sioux vs Northern Iowa Panthers prediction and best bet

The pick is North Dakota to win, but Northern Iowa +12.5 (-127) is the best bet against the spread. Kaminski and running back Charles Langama give the visitors a convincing offensive case after their productive performances against Murray State. The Panthers bring a different argument: efficient passing and a season record of limiting giveaways.

Northern Iowa’s 28-21 victory over No. 3 Illinois State on September 26 makes a substantial home underdog worth backing. That result alone cannot predict another upset, but it strengthens the case for taking 12.5 points. North Dakota’s offensive upside earns the straight-up selection; Northern Iowa’s own production makes a comfortable road victory less convincing.

Odds, game time and how to watch

Game: North Dakota at Northern Iowa, 2026 college football, Saturday, October 10. The matchup listing uses Fighting Sioux; the official previews identify North Dakota as the Fighting Hawks.

Kickoff: 4 p.m. Central, as listed in both schools’ game previews.

Venue: UNI-Dome, Cedar Falls, Iowa. This is Northern Iowa’s Homecoming game.

Broadcast: ESPN+.

Record and rankings: North Dakota is 5-1 overall and 2-0 in the Missouri Valley Football Conference. Its October 6 preview lists it as No. 4/7. Northern Iowa entered the week receiving votes in both the AFCA Coaches and Stats Perform FCS polls.

SportsJaw spread: North Dakota -12.5 (-133); Northern Iowa +12.5 (-127). Moneyline: North Dakota -545; Northern Iowa +376. Total: Over 57.5 (-114); Under 57.5 (-116).

North Dakota Fighting Sioux outlook

North Dakota’s October 3 win over Murray State contained both a warning and a powerful response. It trailed 21-0 before scoring 55 consecutive points and winning 55-28. That recovery showed how quickly its offense could change the game, although the early deficit remains relevant when assessing a double-digit favorite.

Kaminski completed 18 of 24 passes for 186 yards and three touchdowns, adding 98 rushing yards and another touchdown. Langama rushed for 106 yards, with touchdown runs of 26 and 33 yards. Those performances drive the forecast: North Dakota had meaningful production from both its quarterback and running back on the ground, alongside an effective passing day.

The defense also deserves credit for the turnaround. Over Murray State’s eight possessions after its first three scoring drives, North Dakota allowed only 38 yards and no first downs. The challenge Saturday is to bring that level of resistance earlier, without needing another major comeback.

Northern Iowa Panthers outlook

Northern Iowa returns from a bye following its victory over Illinois State. Jaxon Dailey completed 13 of 17 passes for 217 yards and two touchdowns in that September 26 game. Entering this matchup, he ranked second in the MVFC in yards per completion at 13.95 and yards per attempt at 8.81.

Dailey’s efficiency is the strongest offensive reason to expect the Panthers to stay within reach. Against Illinois State, Taj Hughes contributed 80 receiving yards on three catches, while Xavier Terrell gained 80 rushing yards and scored a touchdown on eight carries. Northern Iowa generated useful yardage from several players without a large workload for either Hughes or Terrell.

The Panthers also entered the game leading the conference in fewest penalties, with 25, fewest fumbles lost, with zero, and fewest turnovers lost, with three. Protecting possessions matters against an opponent capable of scoring in bunches. Those totals favor Northern Iowa’s spread case, though they cannot guarantee another clean game.

Key matchup factors

The central question is whether Northern Iowa can make North Dakota sustain drives instead of conceding long touchdown runs. Kaminski’s rushing contribution adds another player the Panthers must account for. If Northern Iowa limits those gains, the visitors will have to earn separation through repeated execution.

At the other end, Dailey’s passing efficiency offers a route to answering scores. North Dakota’s defensive recovery against Murray State is encouraging, but projecting that stretch across an entire road game would be aggressive. Northern Iowa’s recent win over a highly ranked opponent is the strongest counterweight.

The bye gives Northern Iowa a longer interval between games. It is useful context, not a reason by itself to predict superior execution. The forecast rests more heavily on the Panthers’ passing production and ball security.

North Dakota Fighting Sioux vs Northern Iowa Panthers spread prediction

Recommend Northern Iowa Panthers +12.5 (-127). North Dakota must win by at least 13 points to cover -12.5 (-133). The Panthers’ recent home victory and efficient offense make that a demanding margin, even with North Dakota the projected winner.

The price requires restraint: -127 carries a break-even rate of approximately 55.9%. The projected four-point margin leaves a meaningful cushion against the spread, but North Dakota’s long scoring surge last week shows the risk. This is a supported, ordinary edge rather than a high-confidence selection.

North Dakota Fighting Sioux vs Northern Iowa Panthers total prediction

Pass on total 57.5, with Over priced at -114 and Under at -116. The forecast totals 58 points, only half a point above the line. That narrow difference is too small to justify an Over wager.

There are competing signals. Both teams produced effective offensive performances in their latest games, while North Dakota also delivered an extended defensive shutdown. Northern Iowa’s low turnover count favors possession security but says little about Saturday’s pace. Neither total direction offers an edge strong enough to join the spread recommendation.

North Dakota Fighting Sioux vs Northern Iowa Panthers projected score

Game forecast: North Dakota 31, Northern Iowa 27. Kaminski’s dual-threat production and Langama’s rushing performance tilt the winner selection toward North Dakota. Northern Iowa’s efficient passing and recent home upset are the strongest reasons to expect a close finish.

Confidence is medium. North Dakota’s uneven start against Murray State and Northern Iowa’s demonstrated ability to beat a top-five visitor keep the forecast competitive. The single official SportsJaw wager is the spread, Northern Iowa Panthers +12.5 (-127). The total of 57.5 remains a Pass.
