St. Thomas - Minnesota vs Presbyterian College Predictions October 3, 2026

Game time: October 3, 2026 at 12:00 PM ET

Venue: Bailey Memorial Stadium — Clinton, SC

Article updated Oct 1, 7:06 PM EDT

By SportsJaw Editorial Team

St. Thomas - Minnesota will beat Presbyterian College, with a projected score of St. Thomas 38, Presbyterian 17. The Tommies’ 304 rushing yards against San Diego are the strongest matchup reason against a team allowing 54.0 points per game during three consecutive losses. Neither the supplied 25.5-point spread nor the 54.5 total offers a strong enough betting edge. The official recommendation is Pass.

St. Thomas - Minnesota vs Presbyterian College prediction and best bet

St. Thomas has the stronger case to win this Pioneer Football League matchup. Its September 26 victory over San Diego paired 50 points with 554 total yards, including substantial contributions from both Gabriel Abel and Nick Peipert. Presbyterian enters after a 42-7 loss at Marist, making the contrast in recent performance difficult to overlook.

The betting question is tougher. St. Thomas -25.5 (-120) requires a victory by at least 26 points, while Presbyterian +25.5 (-150) carries a substantial price for backing a struggling team. The forecast favors St. Thomas by 21, but that cushion is too fragile to justify the underdog wager. Both the spread and total are passes.

St. Thomas - Minnesota outlook

The San Diego win gives St. Thomas a compelling offensive performance to build around. Its 554 yards marked its first 500-yard game since October 25, 2025. The 304 rushing yards were its first team rushing performance above 300 yards since October 26, 2024. Those milestones show how productive that afternoon was, although one exceptional game should not become an automatic expectation.

Abel carried 15 times for 148 yards and a touchdown, recording his second consecutive 100-yard rushing game. His repeated production is more encouraging than a single breakout. If he can keep the offense moving without requiring Peipert to carry every possession, St. Thomas should have flexibility in how it attacks Presbyterian.

Peipert threw for 239 yards and three touchdowns against San Diego. The PFL credited him with two rushing touchdowns as well, giving him five total scores. St. Thomas subsequently received Stats Perform FCS National Team of the Week recognition.

The concern is translating that home performance into a large road victory. Presbyterian held St. Thomas to nine points in their most recent meeting. The latest offensive showing supports a better result this time, but it leaves room between expecting a win and paying to lay 25.5 points.

Presbyterian College outlook

Presbyterian’s best argument runs through Landon Sharpe. Through the first three games, he averaged 295 total yards per game, ranked 12th nationally in that category, completed 67 percent of his passes and averaged 22 completions per game. Those figures precede the Marist loss and should be read as an early-season snapshot.

Sharpe’s opener illustrates his potential impact. In the 47-37 victory over UVA Wise, he passed for 367 yards, rushed for 94 and accounted for four touchdowns. That combination offers a plausible route to keeping Presbyterian competitive if St. Thomas builds an early lead: Sharpe can contribute through the air and on the ground.

The subsequent results are considerably less encouraging. Presbyterian has lost three straight and allowed 54.0 points per game across those defeats. Scoring only seven at Marist also complicates any assumption that Sharpe’s opening performance will translate into a shootout here.

There is broader context behind the poor start. Presbyterian had won 10 of its previous 12 PFL games entering the Marist matchup, and its last meeting with St. Thomas ended in a 23-9 victory on November 15, 2025. Under new head coach Matt Rahl, the immediate challenge is turning that competitive history into a much stronger performance than last week’s.

Key matchup factors

The central question is whether Presbyterian can limit sustained scoring without needing Sharpe to match every touchdown. St. Thomas just demonstrated substantial rushing and passing production in the same game. That gives the Tommies the more convincing offensive case, although Presbyterian’s recent points allowed should not be mistaken for a specific measure of its run defense.

History supplies a useful restraint. St. Thomas leads the series 2-1, but Presbyterian won the latest meeting. The Tommies won their previous visit to Clinton 46-17 after trailing 17-14 at halftime. Those contrasting results leave room for a competitive opening even when the eventual margin is substantial. Current form drives the forecast more than either past score.

St. Thomas - Minnesota vs Presbyterian College spread prediction

Spread recommendation: Pass on St. Thomas - Minnesota -25.5 (-120) and Presbyterian College +25.5 (-150). The projected 21-point margin falls on Presbyterian’s side of the spread, but a projected cover alone is not enough to make the price attractive.

Backing Presbyterian means paying -150 while trusting a team coming off a 35-point defeat. Laying the points requires confidence that St. Thomas can reproduce enough of its San Diego performance on the road to win by 26 or more. The evidence favors the Tommies outright more clearly than either spread position.

St. Thomas - Minnesota vs Presbyterian College total prediction

Total recommendation: Pass on Over 54.5 (-125) and Under 54.5 (-100). The 55-point projection sits just half a point above the line, leaving almost no cushion for an Over wager.

The scoring case has competing forces. Presbyterian’s recent concessions and St. Thomas’ 50-point outing make another productive Tommies performance plausible. Yet Presbyterian scored seven at Marist, and its contribution could determine whether this clears the total. Sharpe’s opener suggests a higher ceiling, but it is insufficient reason to expect a rebound of that size. Neither direction offers a persuasive edge at its supplied price.

St. Thomas - Minnesota vs Presbyterian College projected score

Game forecast: St. Thomas - Minnesota 38, Presbyterian College 17. St. Thomas wins behind an offense that just produced 554 yards, with Abel’s consecutive 100-yard games providing support beyond the quarterback’s standout afternoon. Confidence is medium: the recent performance gap supports the winner, while the exact margin remains less secure.

The strongest counterargument is Presbyterian’s demonstrated offensive upside through Sharpe, alongside its victory in last season’s meeting. That keeps the forecast below the supplied favorite’s spread rather than turning the recent scoring gap into an assumed rout. The projected 55 points also land too close to 54.5 to justify a total bet. The single official SportsJaw recommendation is Pass.
