Cornell Big Red vs Georgetown Hoyas Predictions October 3, 2026

Game time: October 3, 2026 at 12:30 PM ET

Venue: Cooper Field — Washington, DC

Article updated Oct 1, 7:31 PM EDT

By SportsJaw Editorial Team

Cornell will beat Georgetown, with a projected score of Cornell 24, Georgetown 20. The Big Red’s five rushing touchdowns and five successful red-zone trips against Yale provide the strongest reason to favor them. Their underlying yardage performance makes the margin less convincing, however. Neither Cornell -7.5 (-117) nor the 45.5 total offers a strong enough case for an actionable wager.

Cornell Big Red vs Georgetown Hoyas prediction and best bet

Cornell gets the outright nod after showing how effectively it could finish scoring opportunities in its September 26 win over Yale. Garrett Bass-Sulpizio contributed two rushing touchdowns while completing 14 of 21 passes without an interception. That combination gives the Big Red a credible route to another win without requiring a prolific passing afternoon.

The distinction is the margin. Cornell was outgained in that victory, while Georgetown’s latest defeat came in overtime against Columbia. Those results point toward a competitive game more readily than a comfortable road cover. The forecast is Cornell 24, Georgetown 20, with low confidence. The best betting decision is Pass on both the spread and total.

Cornell Big Red outlook

Cornell’s 38-25 victory over Yale on September 26 featured five rushing touchdowns, its first game reaching that mark since 2019. The Big Red also scored on all five red-zone possessions. Those results make finishing drives the strongest part of Cornell’s recent case, although one afternoon is too small a sample to assume the same efficiency will follow it to Washington.

Bass-Sulpizio threw for 152 yards on 14-of-21 passing and added two touchdowns on the ground. His rushing contribution matters near the goal line because Georgetown must account for more than a handoff. The passing line also shows Cornell could complement those rushing scores without needing a large passing-yardage total.

The warning comes from the broader production: Yale gained 361 yards to Cornell’s 278. Tommy MacPherson intercepted two passes, with one setting up a scoring drive from the Yale 43. That favorable starting position helped Cornell turn defensive production into points. For this forecast, the question is how well the offense finishes when drives require more ground to cover. Cornell’s win demonstrated effective execution, but the yardage deficit argues against treating 38 points as a dependable expectation.

Georgetown Hoyas outlook

Georgetown’s September 26 loss to Columbia ended 20-17 in overtime at Cooper Field. The Hoyas produced 234 offensive yards, and Hassan Mahasin supplied a punt-return touchdown. Reaching overtime shows how close they came to winning, but the return score also matters when judging how much scoring to expect from the offense itself.

Jack Johnson completed 10 of 18 passes for 119 yards and a touchdown against Columbia. Through three games, he is 29-for-51 for 365 yards and five touchdowns. Those touchdown passes give Georgetown a reason to trust its passing game in scoring situations, although the modest yardage leaves less room for stalled possessions.

Clay Ash offered encouragement with 79 yards on 15 carries against Columbia. His season totals are 126 yards on 36 attempts, averaging 3.5 yards per carry. Last week was therefore a stronger rushing performance than his overall average suggests. Jayden Sumpter has contributed 121 rushing yards, while Mahasin leads the receiving group with six catches for 128 yards and a touchdown.

Defensively, Brian Allen has 25 tackles and a forced fumble. Chigozie-Oge Evans leads Georgetown with two sacks. Pressure and sound tackling are especially relevant against a Cornell quarterback who just scored twice as a runner.

Key matchup factors

Field position could have an outsized influence. Cornell benefited from an interception that started a scoring drive in Yale territory, and Georgetown scored directly on a punt return against Columbia. Either kind of play would change how much sustained offense the winner needs. Neither should be built into the forecast as a guaranteed repeat.

The other issue is whether Georgetown can make Cornell earn its points over longer drives. Cornell’s red-zone success favors the visitors once they get close, but the 278-yard performance leaves questions about repeated scoring opportunities. Ash’s improved rushing output offers Georgetown a way to answer with sustained possessions. That combination supports Cornell narrowly while keeping the expected margin below the supplied spread.

Cornell Big Red vs Georgetown Hoyas spread prediction

Cornell -7.5 (-117) is a Pass. The projected four-point win falls short of a cover, and Cornell’s yardage deficit against Yale makes laying more than a touchdown uncomfortable.

Georgetown +7.5 (-138) is also a Pass. The forecast favors that side of the number, but the price requires a stronger cover case than a close overtime loss and one improved rushing performance can supply. Georgetown’s 234-yard showing against Columbia remains a concern. A narrow projected Cornell win leaves room for the home underdog without making that expensive spread an official bet.

Cornell Big Red vs Georgetown Hoyas total prediction

Over 45.5 (-125) and Under 45.5 (-125) are both a Pass. The projected 44 points sit just below the line, leaving little cushion for an extra scoring possession.

The recent yardage totals of 278 for Cornell and 234 for Georgetown suggest caution about expecting sustained offensive production. Yet Cornell just scored 38 points, and Georgetown demonstrated how a punt return can add a touchdown without an offensive drive. Efficient finishing or another special-teams score could push this game past 45.5. The slight numerical lean toward Under is too fragile at -125.

Cornell Big Red vs Georgetown Hoyas projected score

The forecast is Cornell 24, Georgetown 20. Cornell’s recent rushing touchdowns, Bass-Sulpizio’s contribution and successful red-zone execution give the Big Red the stronger scoring case. This projection allows for less efficient finishing than they enjoyed against Yale.

Georgetown’s strongest counterargument is its competitive performance against Columbia, supported by Ash’s 79 rushing yards and Mahasin’s ability to contribute as a receiver and returner. Cornell’s yardage deficit adds another reason to expect resistance. Confidence is low because the clearest recent advantages depend heavily on finishing opportunities and field position. Cornell remains the winner pick; both spread options and both total directions remain passes. The single official SportsJaw wager is Pass.
