Wagner Seahawks vs Central Connecticut Blue Devils Predictions Today

Game time: October 3, 2026 at 12:00 PM ET

Venue: Arute Field — New Britain, CT

Article updated Oct 3, 7:08 AM EDT

By SportsJaw Editorial Team

Central Connecticut will beat Wagner 27-13 in our projection, with its stronger rushing production and Wagner’s limited offense providing the clearest reasons to favor the Blue Devils. Central Connecticut’s defensive struggles temper that advantage, however. At the supplied SportsJaw prices, neither Central Connecticut -14.5 (-110) nor either direction on the 46.5 total (-115) merits an actionable wager.

Wagner Seahawks vs Central Connecticut Blue Devils prediction and best bet

Central Connecticut is the pick to win this NEC football matchup, but the official betting recommendation is Pass. The Blue Devils average 20.0 points per game against Wagner’s 12.0, and their rushing production gives them a modest offensive advantage. Their 35-30 loss at No. 1 Montana State on September 19 also offers a stronger recent performance than the winless record suggests.

The obstacle to laying 14.5 points is Central Connecticut’s defense, which has surrendered 52.3 points per game. Wagner has a chance to improve its scoring against that unit. Our Central Connecticut 27, Wagner 13 forecast falls short of a Blue Devils cover and below the total, but neither difference supplies a persuasive bet by itself.

Odds, game time and how to watch

Kickoff: October 3, 2026, at 12:00 p.m. ET.

Venue: Arute Field in New Britain, Connecticut.

SportsJaw odds: Wagner +14.5 (-110); Central Connecticut -14.5 (-110). Over 46.5 (-115); Under 46.5 (-115). Moneyline: Wagner +525; Central Connecticut -750.

Wagner Seahawks outlook

Wagner’s scoring limitations are the strongest reason to favor Central Connecticut. Through four games, the Seahawks have gained 908 yards and scored 48 points, averaging 227.0 yards and 12.0 points. Their 136.5 passing yards and 90.5 rushing yards per game leave neither part of the offense looking especially threatening. A competitive afternoon likely requires a noticeable improvement on that production.

Benjamin Newman has 466 passing yards and four touchdown passes. Zion Fowler-El has 151 receiving yards, while Matt Morad has rushed for 134 yards and a touchdown. Those figures identify contributors without giving Wagner a clear statistical advantage over Central Connecticut’s offense.

The most recent outing was a 49-7 loss at California on September 19. Newman completed 15 of 31 passes for 86 yards and a touchdown and added a 23-yard rush. Shawn James gained 36 yards on eight carries, while Malik Redd caught three passes for 20 yards and a touchdown.

Defensively, Shamar Williams recorded 10 tackles, a forced fumble and a recovery against California. Wagner nevertheless enters with 411.2 yards and 42.8 points allowed per game. That scoring vulnerability makes it difficult to back the Seahawks simply because they receive more than two touchdowns.

Central Connecticut Blue Devils outlook

Central Connecticut’s three losses deserve individual attention. The Blue Devils opened with a 59-20 defeat at South Dakota and a 63-10 loss at Toledo, then lost 35-30 at No. 1 Montana State. The last result is the strongest argument for expecting better against Wagner, although one competitive game cannot erase the defensive concerns from the full three-game sample.

The Blue Devils average 248.0 yards and 20.0 points. Their 111.7 rushing yards per game ranked second in the NEC entering this matchup. Davon Smith Jr. has carried 34 times for 149 yards, averaging 4.4 per attempt. He offers a plausible route to moving the ball without asking the passing game to carry the entire offense.

Brett Griffis has completed 30 of 61 passes for 288 yards, two touchdowns and one interception. Central Connecticut has converted 12 of 42 third downs, a weakness that could interrupt that rushing-led approach. Its listed 7-for-8 red-zone rate is encouraging, though eight opportunities are a small sample.

The defense has allowed 525.3 yards and 52.3 points per game. Those numbers are the strongest evidence against a comfortable victory. Central Connecticut has won consecutive NEC titles, but that history offers less reassurance at this spread than improved defense would.

Key matchup factors

The offensive difference is narrower than the scoring averages alone suggest. Central Connecticut averages 248.0 yards to Wagner’s 227.0, while their passing averages are nearly identical at 136.3 and 136.5. The rushing advantage matters, but it is not evidence of an overwhelming offensive mismatch. Third-down execution could determine whether the Blue Devils turn that advantage into a substantial lead.

Both teams had a bye, so rest offers no obvious separator. SportsJaw’s community spread leader was Central Connecticut -14.5 (-110), with 100% support in the October 3 update at 00:30 UTC. That is member sentiment, not a win probability or sportsbook betting split, and it does not outweigh the defensive counterargument.

Wagner Seahawks vs Central Connecticut Blue Devils spread prediction

Pass on Central Connecticut -14.5 (-110) and Wagner +14.5 (-110). Our projected 14-point margin would put Wagner inside the spread, but such a narrow cushion is too fragile to make the Seahawks the official selection.

Central Connecticut’s better scoring and rushing averages favor a home victory. Its defensive results make laying more than two touchdowns uncomfortable, while Wagner’s own defensive problems weaken the underdog case. The two latest meetings were Central Connecticut wins by seven points in 2025 and 10 in 2024, useful context but no guarantee of another close margin.

Wagner Seahawks vs Central Connecticut Blue Devils total prediction

Pass on Over 46.5 (-115) and Under 46.5 (-115). The projected 40 points lean below the line, and both offenses have modest yardage averages. Central Connecticut’s 12-for-42 third-down conversion rate adds another reason to anticipate some empty possessions.

The defensive evidence pulls in the other direction. Both teams have allowed more than 40 points per game, creating room for offensive improvement on either side. Their scoring averages alone are insufficient grounds for an under wager against defenses with those results. The six-and-a-half-point gap between forecast and total is not enough to justify a bet.

Wagner Seahawks vs Central Connecticut Blue Devils projected score

Game forecast: Central Connecticut Blue Devils 27, Wagner Seahawks 13. Central Connecticut’s rushing production and competitive showing at Montana State give it the stronger case to win. Wagner’s limited offensive output makes the Seahawks harder to trust to take advantage of the Blue Devils’ defensive weakness.

That weakness remains the strongest counterargument. Central Connecticut has conceded 157 points in three games, so a better afternoon from Wagner would not be surprising. Confidence is low because the forecast depends on the home defense improving substantially against a less productive offense.

The spread recommendation and total recommendation are both Pass. The single official SportsJaw betting lean is Pass, with Central Connecticut retained as the projected winner.
