Denver Broncos vs San Francisco 49ers Predictions October 4, 2026

Game time: October 4, 2026 at 4:25 PM ET

Venue: Levi's Stadium — Santa Clara, CA

Article updated Oct 1, 6:50 PM EDT

By SportsJaw Editorial Team

The San Francisco 49ers will beat the Denver Broncos, with a projected score of 49ers 27, Broncos 23. Brock Purdy's nine touchdown passes and sack-free opening three games give San Francisco the strongest matchup advantage against a Denver offense struggling early. Confidence is low, however, and neither San Francisco -2.5 (-112) nor the 48-point total offers a strong enough betting edge. The official recommendation is Pass.

Denver Broncos vs San Francisco 49ers prediction and best bet

San Francisco is the pick because Purdy's passing production offers a more convincing foundation than Denver's repeated need to recover from slow starts. He threw four touchdown passes against Arizona on September 27, bringing his season total to nine. Denver had scored only 10 first-half points through three games.

That contrast favors the 49ers, but Denver has already won twice after trailing by at least 10 points. The Broncos also bring a defensive playmaker in Talanoa Hufanga, whose two Week 3 interceptions included a touchdown. Forecasting San Francisco to win is reasonable; paying -112 to cover 2.5 points requires a stronger margin assessment. The best betting decision is Pass.

Denver Broncos outlook

Denver's comeback ability is a meaningful reason to keep this forecast close. Both wins in its two-game streak came at Empower Field at Mile High, and both required overcoming deficits of at least 10 points. Against the Rams, Bo Nix threw two touchdown passes, completed two two-point conversions and supplied the decisive score on a late quarterback sneak.

The Broncos scored 30 second-half points in that game, but their opening possessions were much less productive. Three of their first five possessions ended in three-and-outs, and another possession ended with a missed field goal. Their 3.6 rushing yards per attempt ranked fifth-lowest in the NFL, according to NFL Mundo. A better start would reduce the burden on Nix to rescue another game.

Wednesday's injury report offered encouraging participation news. Marvin Mims Jr., who had not played since Week 1, practiced fully despite a foot issue. Jaylen Waddle, also listed with a foot injury, and J.K. Dobbins, listed with a hip injury, were full participants. Those practice entries were not final game statuses.

Dondrea Tillman missed practice with a hamstring injury, while Zach Allen was limited for rest. Hufanga's 66-yard interception return for a touchdown and game-sealing interception against the Rams earned AFC Defensive Player of the Week honors.

San Francisco 49ers outlook

San Francisco's case starts with Purdy. His nine passing touchdowns through three games led the league in NFL Mundo's September 29 report. Denver's official matchup report also listed him as the NFL leader in passer rating at 133.1. Those numbers give the 49ers a concrete passing-game argument beyond their unbeaten record.

Purdy had not been sacked through those three games. That is a favorable result for San Francisco's offense, though it should not be stretched into a claim that every throw came from a clean pocket. The four-touchdown performance against Arizona supplies a recent example of the production Denver must contain.

The 49ers finish a three-game home stand Sunday. Their two divisional wins are part of a 3-0 start, but neither the record nor the home setting guarantees separation against a team that has repeatedly recovered from trouble. San Francisco's passing success is the strongest reason to expect a win; it is less decisive when judging the final margin.

Hufanga's recent interceptions illustrate the risk to that forecast. A defensive touchdown could swing a close game without Denver sustaining long scoring drives. San Francisco's preferred path is to make the Broncos earn their points through an offense that has struggled to start quickly and run efficiently.

Key matchup factors

The central question is whether Denver can interrupt Purdy's production before its own offense settles. Denver's early scoring troubles make an efficient opening particularly valuable here. Hufanga's recent takeaways offer another route to points, but projecting another defensive touchdown would overstate one game's evidence.

The October 1 consensus update put San Francisco at 60% in the blended spread measure, equivalent to 362 of 603 combined modeled selections. Those figures combine a modeled sportsbook sample with SportsJaw participation; they are not observed ticket counts or a win probability. San Francisco also led the community spread picks. Blended support moved five percentage points toward the 49ers from September 30, reinforcing their popularity without making the price a bargain.

Denver Broncos vs San Francisco 49ers spread prediction

Pass on San Francisco -2.5 (-112) and Denver +2.5 (+100). The projected four-point San Francisco win clears the favorite's spread, but the small cushion leaves little room for forecast error. Purdy's production supports choosing the winner more firmly than it supports a particular winning margin.

Denver's two comeback victories are the strongest counterargument to laying points. Its weak first-half scoring also makes taking the underdog uncomfortable. With credible arguments on both sides, the supplied spread prices do not offer enough separation between the football forecast and the betting threshold.

Denver Broncos vs San Francisco 49ers total prediction

Pass on Over 48 (-110) and Under 48 (-110). The projected 50 points lean toward the Over, with Purdy's touchdown production and Denver's 30-point second half against the Rams supporting that direction. Denver's first-half scoring and rushing efficiency pull the other way.

The blended total consensus favored Over 48 at 73%, up nine percentage points from September 30. That measures selection support, not the probability of a winning Over. A two-point gap between the projection and total is too narrow to justify a wager given Denver's uneven scoring pattern.

Denver Broncos vs San Francisco 49ers projected score

Game forecast: San Francisco 49ers 27, Denver Broncos 23. Purdy's touchdown production, passer rating and sack-free start make San Francisco the choice. Denver's limited first-half scoring strengthens that preference, although there is no need to assume the 49ers have a proven early-game scoring advantage of their own.

The strongest counterargument is Denver's demonstrated ability to recover, supported by Nix's scoring plays and Hufanga's interceptions against the Rams. Those contributions could keep this game close or overturn the forecast. Confidence is low because the case for San Francisco rests more heavily on its passing results than on a comprehensive comparison of both teams. The single official betting recommendation is Pass.
