Cal’s productive passing and Clemson’s defensive results make competing cases, with neither establishing a clear betting advantage.
The Clemson Tigers visit the California Golden Bears on Friday, September 25, in the 2026 college football season. Both schools’ September 19 recaps confirm the matchup and a 10:30 p.m. ET kickoff, equivalent to 7:30 p.m. PT. Both teams enter 2-1 overall and 1-0 in ACC play.
SportsJaw lists California at -115 moneyline and -1.5 (-105), with Clemson at -105 moneyline and +1.5 (-115). The total is 50.5, with over and under each priced at -110.
California’s 49-7 victory over Wagner featured 413 passing yards from Jaron-Keawe Sagapolutele, who completed 27 of 33 attempts with three touchdowns and no interceptions. Cal gained 626 total yards. His preceding performance at Syracuse was more modest: 182 yards and two touchdowns on 21-of-34 passing, also without a turnover.
Those outings support optimism about Cal’s passing game, but the Wagner production alone does not establish what to expect against Clemson. The Tigers allowed Georgia Southern just 11 rushing yards and forced eight three-and-outs, then recorded three sacks in their 28-20 victory over North Carolina.
Clemson also has an offensive case. Freshman Tait Reynolds threw for 215 yards in his first career start against North Carolina, while Gideon Davidson rushed for 105 yards and a touchdown. California’s rushing defense improved from 277 yards allowed against UCLA to 118 against Syracuse, leaving evidence of both vulnerability and improvement.
Pass. Cal’s recent passing efficiency is encouraging, but Clemson’s defensive results provide meaningful counterevidence. These performances against different opponents do not establish enough separation to justify either moneyline or spread. They also leave too much uncertainty about scoring to support over or under 50.5. No winner or score projection is warranted.
