Delaware St. Hornets will beat Albany, N.Y. Great Danes 24-21 in a low-confidence forecast. The strongest reason is Delaware State's 90-yard winning touchdown drive against Towson, while Albany enters after a shutout loss featuring three turnovers. Neither Delaware State +2.5 (-113) nor the 45.5 total at -127 offers a convincing betting edge. The official wager is Pass.

Delaware St. Hornets vs Albany, N.Y. Great Danes prediction and best bet

Delaware State gets the narrow call because its latest performance included a sustained touchdown drive with the game at stake. Against Towson on September 26, the Hornets answered a 28-27 deficit with an 11-play, 90-yard march and scored the winner with 42 seconds remaining. That finish earns a slight preference in this forecast.

Albany has a credible response: its 22-0 loss to Princeton came despite a 288-265 advantage in total yards. The shutout deserves attention, but so does the movement behind it. Neither result points to a comfortable advantage here. Delaware State is the predicted winner, while the best betting decision is Pass on both the spread and total.

Delaware St. Hornets outlook

Delaware State's 33-28 victory over Towson in Dover supplies both the reason to pick the Hornets and the reason to keep confidence low. They led 27-14 at halftime, surrendered that advantage and still produced the touchdown needed to win. The closing drive showed they could sustain an extended possession when a failed series would have left them behind.

The broader numbers were less persuasive. Towson gained 369 yards to Delaware State's 298, so the winning score came without a corresponding advantage in total offense. The Hornets also benefited from a favorable turnover balance: they committed one turnover, while Towson committed four. A repeat of that margin would help considerably, but it is too much to build into an October 3 projection.

The distinction matters when judging the Hornets' 33 points. Their finish was impressive, yet that output alone is a shaky guide to what they will score against Albany. Losing a 13-point halftime lead also tempers the enthusiasm. Delaware State earns a slight preference for its demonstrated response under pressure, rather than a claim that it controlled its previous opponent.

Albany, N.Y. Great Danes outlook

Albany's September 26 performance at Princeton presents a different problem: gaining yards without scoring. The Great Danes finished with 288 yards and held Princeton to 265, but lost 22-0. Their three turnovers, against none for Princeton, are an obvious concern. The recap supports concern about ball security, although those totals cannot explain every unsuccessful possession.

Kai Colón completed 12 of 20 passes for 111 yards and contributed 49 rushing yards. Rahshan La Mons led the team with 57 rushing yards. Tavahri Groves supplied six catches for 81 yards, making him a substantial part of the documented passing production. Those contributions give Albany specific offensive pieces to build around after a game that ended without points.

The Great Danes' best argument is that the shutout score tells a harsher story than the yardage comparison. Protecting possessions while getting similar contributions from those players could produce a much more competitive result. Still, improved scoring is a forecast, not something the Princeton game demonstrated. Albany returns home for Homecoming with a plausible path to victory, but the occasion itself adds no measurable edge to this pick.

Key matchup factors

Turnover sensitivity is the central issue. Delaware State won while benefiting from three more opponent turnovers than its own; Albany lost with the opposite balance. Those results could look very different with a more even exchange of possessions. Projecting either pattern to repeat would put too much weight on one game.

The opponents were also different, which limits direct comparisons between the two offenses. Delaware State's scoring and Albany's shutout are useful context, not a common test of their strength. The forecast gives the Hornets a small advantage for their successful late drive, while leaving substantial room for Albany to reverse the outcome by converting its offensive movement into points.

Delaware St. Hornets vs Albany, N.Y. Great Danes spread prediction

Spread recommendation: Pass on Delaware St. Hornets +2.5 (-113) and Albany, N.Y. Great Danes -2.5 (-113). The projected Delaware State victory points toward the Hornets with the points, but the case is too fragile to justify paying -113.

Delaware State's turnover advantage and yardage deficit against Towson complicate that selection. Albany's yardage edge at Princeton offers a competing reason to expect improvement. A 24-21 Hornets forecast would cover +2.5; it is not a reliable estimate of how often they cover. Albany -2.5 is also a Pass.

Delaware St. Hornets vs Albany, N.Y. Great Danes total prediction

Total recommendation: Pass on Over 45.5 (-127) and Under 45.5 (-127). The projected 45 combined points fall just half a point below the line, leaving only a slight directional lean toward Under.

The recent scoring examples pull apart: Delaware State and Towson combined for 61 points, while Albany and Princeton combined for 22. Different opponents and turnover circumstances make those totals unreliable guides on their own. Albany's potential scoring recovery adds uncertainty in the other direction. At -127, neither Over nor Under offers enough appeal for an official selection.

Delaware St. Hornets vs Albany, N.Y. Great Danes projected score

Game forecast: Delaware St. Hornets 24, Albany, N.Y. Great Danes 21. Delaware State gets the deciding touchdown in this projection because its latest win included a convincing answer after losing the lead. That is a modest reason to favor the Hornets, not evidence of a lasting late-game advantage.

The strongest counterargument belongs to Albany's yardage performance at Princeton and Delaware State's reliance on a favorable turnover balance against Towson. A cleaner Albany game could readily change the winner. Confidence is low, reflecting the competing signals rather than a refusal to choose. Delaware State is the pick to win; both market recommendations and the single official SportsJaw wager remain Pass.
