Game outlook

Edmonton is on the road playing Calgary at the Scotiabank Saddledome stadium on Tuesday, 12/27/2022 @ 9:00pm EST. Calgary -145 was the opening favorite and line hasn't moved.

On Tuesday night, the Edmonton Oilers (18-15-1-1, 17-18 PL, 21-10 O/U) face the Calgary Flames (16-12-4-3, 14-21 PL, 17-17 O/U). On Tuesday, the Oilers were hammered by the Canucks. In their previous match, the Flames won in overtime on the road against the Ducks. The season series stands at 1-1

The Oilers' disappointing performance continues

The Edmonton Oilers will play their next two games on the road. A big road win over the Stars on Wednesday was followed by an ugly 5-2 loss at home to the Canucks on Friday. This season has been disappointing for the Oilers, and they are now out of the playoff picture. In their last ten games, they have recorded 4-4-2.

Connor McDavid scored his 30th goal of the season on Friday. In December, the 25-year-old superstar accumulated 25 points and leads the NHL with 66 points. It has been two games this season since McDavid scored against the Flames. Leon Draisaitl has also been exceptional. In December, the 27-year-old center accrued 20 points and had at least one point in all but three games. With 56 points so far this season, Draisaitl leads the NHL. The last five games have seen Ryan Nugent-Hopkins score seven points. This could be the most successful season of his career for the 29-year-old. A total of 41 points have been scored by him.

The flames are heating up. Return home

After a successful road trip, the Calgary Flames have returned home. After a 3-2 overtime win in Anaheim on Friday, they are 3-0-1 in four clashes, including a 3-2 overtime loss to the Kings. There has been a streakiness to Calgary's season this year. Before the road trip, they had lost five consecutive games. Over the last ten games, they are 4-3-3.

It's been a hot start for Elias Lindholm, who has nine points in five games. Though the 28-year-old center hasn't been able to replicate last year's numbers so far, he leads the team in points with 11 goals and 21 assists. Against the Oilers, Lindholm had one assist. It has been four games since Tyler Toffoli last scored a point. On the year, the 30-year-old winger has 28 points after scoring two goals against the Sharks last week. Having lost Gaudreau, Nazem Kadri was the Flames' answer. It's been a successful, but not particularly memorable year for the 32-year-old. The number of goals and assists for Kadri is 13. In two meetings against the Oilers, he had a goal and an assist.

The Edmonton Oilers have been inconsistent and have slipped out of a playoff spot as a result. Their last seven games have been lost, including an ugly 5-2 loss to the Canucks at home. Having won their last four games 3-0-1, the Flames are in a groove. Also, the Oilers' goaltending and defense are below league average. Four of their last five games have resulted in at least four goals being squandered. They had hoped to have Jack Campbell as their #1 goalie, but he has struggled so badly that Stuart Skinner is receiving most of the playing time. With only 11 goals allowed in their last four games, the Flames have found a rhythm defensively.

Edmonton Highlights

With a power ranking of 4, Edmonton is ranked #3 in offense (scoring an average of 3.60 per game), #25 in defense (allowing an average of 3.49 points to be scored against them per game) and are 18-15-2 this season.

Calgary Highlights

Calgary Flames has a power ranking of 17 and are #18 for offense (scoring an average of 3.14 per game), #16 for defense (giving up an average of 3.49 points per game) and 5-6 overall. Edmonton went 1-1-1 in their last 3 matchups against Calgary.
