New York Islanders vs Minnesota Wild Predictions Today

Game time: October 29, 2026 at 8:00 PM ET

Venue: Grand Casino Arena — Saint Paul, MN

Article updated Oct 29, 7:51 AM EDT

By SportsJaw Editorial Team

The Minnesota Wild will beat the New York Islanders 3-2, with Kirill Kaprizov’s scoring and Minnesota’s recent results providing the strongest edge. The Wild have won three straight and are 4-0-0 at home, but New York’s defensive record makes a close finish plausible. Neither the supplied puck-line prices nor the 5.5 total offers a convincing wager, so the official recommendation is Pass.

New York Islanders vs Minnesota Wild prediction and best bet

Minnesota gets the pick because its recent success combines scoring with strong defensive results. The Wild finished their road trip by beating Seattle, Vancouver and Utah by a combined 12-4. Kaprizov enters with 14 goals in 14 games, including 10 at five-on-five. That production gives Minnesota a compelling route to the deciding goal against a defensively competitive opponent.

The best betting decision is Pass. New York has earned points in six of seven games, making Minnesota -1.5 (+140) a tougher proposition than simply picking the Wild to win. The defensive numbers suggest a modest score, but unsettled goaltending and Minnesota’s recent offense keep Under 5.5 (+100) from becoming an official wager.

New York Islanders outlook

The Islanders finish their three-game Central Division trip with a 4-1-2 record over their past seven games. Their first two stops produced sharply different results: a 6-3 loss at Dallas and a 4-3 shootout victory at Nashville. New York built a 3-0 lead against the Predators before needing the shootout, so that victory also exposed how quickly an early advantage can disappear.

Bo Horvat has two goals and four assists over his previous five games and played a season-high 26:04 at Nashville. Matthew Schaefer has contributed two goals and three assists during a five-game point streak. His season total stands at 11 points, with points in eight of nine games. Those two give New York tangible offensive reasons to challenge Minnesota.

The stronger argument for a close game is New York’s 2.58 goals allowed per game. Its 31 goals conceded are tied for the league’s third-fewest, although that season figure should not be mistaken for a road-only record.

The goaltending choice matters. Ilya Sorokin has a 2.26 goals-against average and .919 save percentage in eight starts. Semyon Varlamov has a 2.40 GAA and .891 save percentage in four starts. Neither was confirmed in the reporting.

Minnesota Wild outlook

Minnesota returns from a five-game trip with three consecutive victories and the NHL’s second-most points. Its 4-0-0 home start adds support to the forecast, though four games are a limited sample. The stronger recent signal is the 12-4 combined score over the final three road games, showing the Wild have been winning with room to spare.

Kaprizov supplies the clearest individual advantage. Alongside his league-leading 14 goals, he ranks third in points with 23. He recorded a goal and an assist in four of the five road-trip games. His league-best 10 goals at five-on-five make him particularly relevant to a matchup in which both clubs have strong goals-against records.

Jesper Wallstedt has played 12 of Minnesota’s 14 games while Filip Gustavsson recovers from offseason hip surgery. Wallstedt is 8-2-2 with a 1.99 GAA and .922 save percentage. Calvin Pickard, also identified as a possible starter, is 1-1-0 with a 3.50 GAA and .833 save percentage.

The defensive personnel create uncertainty. Brock Faber remains out with a skull fracture. Jared Spurgeon was uncertain after leaving Tuesday’s game following two blocked shots. Faber’s absence and Spurgeon’s unresolved status temper expectations for Minnesota to control scoring, particularly if Wallstedt does not start.

Key matchup factors

The central tension is Minnesota’s finishing against New York’s ability to limit goals. Kaprizov’s five-on-five production favors the Wild, while the Islanders’ recent results argue against expecting an easy separation. Goaltending could shift that balance, especially given the difference between Minnesota’s two possible starters’ early numbers.

SportsJaw’s October 29 snapshot, updated at 00:31 UTC, shows community and qualified-handicapper leaders on New York +163 and Over 5.5 (-120). Separately, Wise Guy Team reported 86% of sampled DraftKings moneyline tickets on Minnesota but 61% of money on New York. These are different measures, not win probabilities. The disagreement warrants price discipline rather than an automatic bet against the favorite.

New York Islanders vs Minnesota Wild spread prediction

Pass on Minnesota -1.5 (+140) and New York +1.5 (-160). The projected one-goal Minnesota victory favors the Islanders’ puck line in the forecast, but that alone is insufficient reason to pay -160.

New York’s recent 4-1-2 stretch and defensive results make taking the goals understandable. Minnesota’s three consecutive wins by a combined eight goals provide the counterweight. The Wild have recently created separation, and Kaprizov gives them a credible way to do so again. Neither price offers enough appeal to turn this forecast into a puck-line wager.

New York Islanders vs Minnesota Wild total prediction

Pass on Over 5.5 (-120) and Under 5.5 (+100). Minnesota allows 2.21 goals per game and New York 2.58, making a five-goal projection reasonable. Those averages describe defensive results; they are not a complete estimate of this game’s scoring.

Minnesota’s recent offense, its defensive injuries and the unconfirmed goalies complicate the Under. Wallstedt’s numbers would strengthen that case if he starts, but Pickard’s early results point toward more scoring risk. The Over has plausible arguments too, yet laying -120 against these defensive records is unappealing. Keep the total as a Pass.

New York Islanders vs Minnesota Wild projected score

The forecast is Minnesota Wild 3, New York Islanders 2, with medium confidence. Minnesota’s unbeaten home start, three consecutive victories and Kaprizov’s scoring support an ordinary edge. They justify choosing the Wild without treating the result as unusually secure.

The strongest counterargument is New York’s combination of recent point production in the standings and a strong season defensive record. Sorokin’s numbers, if he starts, further support a competitive game. Minnesota’s missing and uncertain defensemen also leave room for an upset. The projection favors Minnesota narrowly, while the unresolved goaltending choices limit conviction on scoring. Both market recommendations remain Pass, and Pass is the single official SportsJaw betting decision.
