Detroit Red Wings vs Edmonton Oilers Predictions Today

Game time: October 26, 2026 at 9:30 PM ET

Venue: Rogers Place — Edmonton, AB

Article updated Oct 26, 8:14 AM EDT

By SportsJaw Editorial Team

The Edmonton Oilers will beat the Detroit Red Wings, with Edmonton 4, Detroit 3 the projected score. Edmonton’s league-leading offense and second-ranked power play against Detroit’s 30th-ranked penalty kill provide the strongest matchup advantage. Defensive concerns make the Oilers’ -172 moneyline less appealing than the forecast suggests, however. Neither the puck line nor the 6.5 total offers a convincing wager; the official recommendation is Pass.

Detroit Red Wings vs Edmonton Oilers prediction and best bet

Edmonton gets the winning forecast because its offensive advantage is substantial and directly relevant to Detroit’s biggest weakness. The Oilers score 4.36 goals per game and convert 35.14% of their power plays. Detroit kills just 65.79% of opposing power plays. Penalties could therefore turn an otherwise competitive game toward Edmonton.

The best betting decision is Pass. Edmonton’s 3.55 goals allowed per game and Detroit’s stronger overall defensive results make -172 a demanding moneyline price. Picking the Oilers to win does not require buying that price. The projected one-goal margin also leaves an uncomfortable choice between an expensive Detroit puck line and an Edmonton wager requiring a larger victory.

SportsJaw total: Over 6.5 (-118); Under 6.5 (+102). Edmonton is playing the fourth game of a five-game homestand.

Detroit Red Wings outlook

Detroit’s strongest argument is its overall defensive performance. The Red Wings allow 2.91 goals per game, ninth in the NHL, compared with Edmonton’s 27th-ranked rate. That gives Detroit a credible route to a close game even against the league’s highest-scoring offense. It also weighs against assuming Edmonton will cover a two-goal margin.

Recent road results have varied. Detroit lost 4-3 in a shootout at Seattle on October 20, beat Vancouver 5-2 on October 22 and lost 4-1 at Calgary on October 24. The Calgary result ended a six-game point streak. That sequence supplies evidence of competitiveness, but the five-goal performance in Vancouver should not overshadow a season scoring average of 2.55, ranked 26th.

Alex DeBrincat leads Detroit with six goals and 12 points. Lucas Raymond has three goals and six assists, and Viktor Arvidsson has four goals and four assists. Their production gives Detroit options against Edmonton’s vulnerable defense.

Marco Kasper and Mason Appleton are listed out, with Daniil Tarasov day-to-day. John Gibson’s reported numbers are a 3-4-0 record, .867 save percentage and 3.44 goals-against average. Those individual results temper the reassurance offered by Detroit’s team defensive ranking.

Edmonton Oilers outlook

Edmonton’s 8-2-1 record is backed by an attack averaging an NHL-high 4.36 goals per game. Connor McDavid entered with an 11-game point streak, while Evan Bouchard’s streak stood at eight games. Leon Draisaitl was on a six-game scoring streak. That sustained production is the strongest reason to keep Edmonton as the projected winner after a difficult defensive outing.

The Oilers lost 7-2 at home to Toronto on October 24, with Tristan Jarry allowing six goals on 32 shots. Their preceding home games were a 6-5 win over Carolina on October 22 and a 4-3 victory over Minnesota on October 20. Those results illustrate both Edmonton’s ability to win high-scoring games and the danger of trusting its defense.

The injury report adds concern. Mattias Ekholm is listed out; Fubo reports that Edmonton announced October 24 he would miss the next three games. Jason Dickinson, Devon Levi, Mattias Janmark, Alec Regula, Frederik Andersen, Atro Leppänen and Matthew Savoie are also listed out.

Edmonton’s 70% penalty kill ranks 26th. Detroit’s 21.05% power play therefore offers a potential response to the Oilers’ special-teams advantage. Edmonton has the stronger attack, but neither penalty kill inspires confidence.

Key matchup factors

Penalty opportunities could matter more than the gap between the teams’ records. Edmonton has the stronger power play, but its own penalty kill creates a route for Detroit to answer. A Detroit team averaging relatively few goals would benefit from those opportunities.

SportsJaw’s October 26 snapshot at approximately 00:32 UTC showed Detroit +151 leading member picks at 63%; qualified handicapper picks separately favored Detroit at 63%. Fade the Public Analytics’ 02:32 UTC snapshot instead reported Edmonton receiving 89% of moneyline tickets and 98% of handle. These are different measures from different groups. The disagreement adds context, but popularity alone makes neither side a value bet.

Detroit Red Wings vs Edmonton Oilers spread prediction

Pass on Detroit +1.5 (-159) and Edmonton -1.5 (+140). The Edmonton 4, Detroit 3 forecast favors Detroit’s puck-line outcome, but -159 requires more conviction in a close finish than this matchup warrants. Edmonton’s power play could create separation quickly.

The Oilers are 4-0-2 across their previous six home meetings with Detroit, useful background for the winner forecast. That record alone says little about tonight’s margin. Detroit’s ninth-ranked goals-against rate and Edmonton’s defensive problems argue against paying for an Edmonton win by at least two goals.

Detroit Red Wings vs Edmonton Oilers total prediction

Pass on Over 6.5 (-118) and Under 6.5 (+102). Seven projected goals lean toward the Over, with Edmonton’s scoring rate and both weak penalty kills providing the clearest scoring case. Edmonton’s recent home results reinforce that possibility.

Detroit supplies the counterweight through its 2.55 goals scored and 2.91 allowed per game. SportsJaw member picks favored Under 6.5 (+102) at 56%, with qualified handicapper picks separately at 56%. Neither those preferences nor a projection just above the line creates enough conviction to select either total price.

Detroit Red Wings vs Edmonton Oilers projected score

Game forecast: Edmonton 4, Detroit 3. Edmonton’s stronger offense and favorable power-play matchup make the Oilers the pick to win. Confidence is medium: the offensive case is supported by both team production and individual scoring streaks, while Detroit’s penalty kill presents a specific vulnerability.

The strongest counterargument is Edmonton’s difficulty preventing goals, compounded by Ekholm’s absence. Detroit’s better team defensive rate could also keep the game below this projection. Those concerns matter when moving from a likely winner to a paid wager. The -172 moneyline demands more certainty than the matchup supplies, and neither the spread nor total offers a stronger alternative. The single official SportsJaw betting recommendation is Pass.
