Montreal Canadiens vs Winnipeg Jets Predictions Today

Game time: October 25, 2026 at 7:00 PM ET

Venue: Princess Auto Stadium — Winnipeg, MB

Article updated Oct 25, 8:15 AM EDT

By SportsJaw Editorial Team

The Montreal Canadiens will beat the Winnipeg Jets 3-2 in our Heritage Classic forecast. Montreal’s better early record and October 23 win without Nick Suzuki give it a slight advantage over Winnipeg, which has lost four straight. Those defeats were all by one goal, however, and Montreal remains short of key forwards. Neither the supplied puck line nor total offers an actionable wager; the official recommendation is Pass.

Montreal Canadiens vs Winnipeg Jets prediction and best bet

Montreal gets the narrow nod after winning 4-1 at Chicago in its first game without Suzuki. The Canadiens enter 4-3, compared with Winnipeg’s 4-3-3, and have gone 2-1-1 over their previous four games. That gives Montreal the stronger recent results, although Winnipeg’s four straight losses include two overtime or shootout points.

The distinction between winning and covering is central here. Montreal -1.5 (+207) requires a margin larger than this forecast, while Winnipeg +1.5 (-250) charges heavily for the cushion. Montreal’s missing scorers also complicate the total of 6. The best bet is Pass, with a low-confidence Montreal victory still the game prediction.

Montreal Canadiens outlook

Montreal’s Chicago win is its clearest positive entering this matchup. Scoring four goals and allowing one in the first game without Suzuki gives the Canadiens a successful result to build on. It remains one game, though, and the longer adjustment involves replacing a center who led the team with 12 points, including five goals and seven assists, in nine appearances.

Suzuki suffered an upper-body injury in the October 20 overtime loss to San Jose and was expected to miss two to four weeks. Missing the October 23 game ended his 546-game consecutive-games streak. Ivan Demidov is also unavailable with a lower-body injury and has not played since the October 3 overtime loss at Pittsburgh.

Oliver Kapanen was expected to center Cole Caufield and Juraj Slafkovsky against Winnipeg. Kapanen missed the first seven games with a lower-body injury and entered his fourth appearance without a point. That assignment puts immediate responsibility on a player still establishing his season.

Montreal’s 1-2-1 record when scoring first adds another caution. An opening goal alone is no reason to expect a comfortable finish. The forecast asks the Canadiens to repeat enough of their Chicago performance to win narrowly, without assuming their offensive absences have been solved.

Winnipeg Jets outlook

Winnipeg’s losing streak deserves attention, but so do its margins. All four defeats came by one goal. The Jets have struggled to turn close games into wins, yet those results offer a stronger argument for another competitive finish than for a decisive Montreal victory.

The roster changed substantially on October 23, when Winnipeg traded Connor Hellebuyck to New Jersey for Dawson Mercer, Nick Bjugstad, Nico Daws, prospect Alexander Command and two draft picks. The timing makes this an immediate test of the revised group, but the transaction alone says little about how many goals Winnipeg will allow Sunday.

Mercer was set to enter the lineup alongside Adam Lowry and work on the penalty kill. He had no goals in 10 games for New Jersey. His planned responsibilities give Winnipeg another option, although predicting an immediate scoring boost would be premature.

Skinner and Stevenson were Winnipeg’s two NHL goaltenders, with Daws likely to be scratched. Bjugstad had yet to play in 2026-27 following offseason upper-body surgery and was expected out at least until January. Those circumstances limit the immediate contribution of the trade return. Mark Scheifele, meanwhile, was set for his third NHL outdoor appearance, bringing prior experience in this setting.

Key matchup factors

Montreal’s recent win carries more weight in this forecast than any assumption that Winnipeg’s trade will weaken its goaltending. The Canadiens have demonstrated they can win without Suzuki; sustaining that performance is the question. Winnipeg’s close losses keep the gap between these teams small.

Consensus also favors Montreal, but popularity is separate from the chance of winning. At the October 25 update at 12:07 UTC, the blended moneyline consensus backed Montreal -119 at 73%. SportsJaw member picks favored Montreal at 67%, as did qualified handicapper picks in their separate group. Those figures describe selection preferences, not a 73% win probability or a reason to raise this forecast’s confidence.

Montreal Canadiens vs Winnipeg Jets spread prediction

Pass on Montreal -1.5 (+207) and Winnipeg +1.5 (-250). Montreal’s payout is tempting, but the injuries and Winnipeg’s four consecutive one-goal defeats make a two-goal victory an ambitious requirement.

Winnipeg +1.5 fits the projected Montreal 3-2 result and led the blended spread consensus at 71%. Its -250 price is the obstacle: a close-game forecast still leaves room for Montreal to win by multiple goals. There is no strong enough margin advantage here to pay that premium. Winnipeg covering is the forecast implication, not an official wager.

Montreal Canadiens vs Winnipeg Jets total prediction

Pass on Over 6 (+101) and Under 6 (-117). Montreal’s missing forwards give the Under a plausible scoring argument, and the projected five goals fall below the line. Still, one successful game without Suzuki is a thin foundation for setting Montreal’s new scoring expectations, while Winnipeg’s goaltending change adds uncertainty.

The blended total consensus favored Over 6 at 89%, up 29 percentage points from the October 24 snapshot. That movement measures changing preference, not an improvement in the Over’s underlying value. The score forecast leans lower, but neither direction earns a bet.

Montreal Canadiens vs Winnipeg Jets projected score

Game forecast: Montreal Canadiens 3, Winnipeg Jets 2. Montreal’s better record and convincing Chicago result supply the small edge. Winnipeg’s four-game slide tips the decision toward the Canadiens, with the one-goal margins keeping the projected finish tight.

The strongest counterargument is the loss of Suzuki’s production alongside Demidov’s continued absence. Kapanen’s expanded assignment comes without an early scoring return, and Winnipeg has remained within reach throughout its skid. Confidence is low because those concerns materially challenge the Montreal case. The single official SportsJaw wager is Pass: Montreal -1.5 is too aggressive for this projection, Winnipeg +1.5 is expensive, and the total of 6 offers no persuasive pricing edge.
