Washington Capitals vs Carolina Hurricanes Predictions October 13, 2026

Game time: October 13, 2026 at 6:45 PM ET

Venue: Lenovo Center — Raleigh, NC

Article updated Oct 12, 7:22 AM EDT

By SportsJaw Editorial Team

The Carolina Hurricanes will beat the Washington Capitals, Hurricanes 4, Capitals 2, in our Oct. 13 forecast. Carolina’s five-game winning streak, productive scoring leaders and repeated penalty-kill success give it the edge. Confidence is medium, but neither Carolina -1.5 (+144) nor either side of the supplied 6.5 total offers a compelling wager. The official SportsJaw betting lean is Pass.

Washington Capitals vs Carolina Hurricanes prediction and best bet

Carolina gets the pick because its recent results have the stronger supporting performances. The Hurricanes beat Philadelphia 4-1 on Oct. 11 for their fifth consecutive victory. Washington lost 5-3 to Seattle that day, with coach Spencer Carbery pointing to puck mistakes and poor decisions.

Those mistakes are a concern against Carolina’s productive forwards, but picking the winner is easier than pricing the margin. The Hurricanes must win by at least two goals to cover -1.5 (+144). Our forecast anticipates that outcome without making it a sufficiently dependable betting edge. The best bet is Pass.

Odds, game time and how to watch

Game: Washington Capitals at Carolina Hurricanes, NHL, 2026-27 regular season.

Time: Oct. 13, 2026, at 6:45 p.m. ET.

Venue: Lenovo Center, Raleigh, North Carolina.

Broadcast: ESPN+.

Records and form: Washington is 3-2-0 following its Oct. 11 defeat. Carolina is 5-1-1 with five consecutive wins.

SportsJaw moneyline: Washington +150; Carolina -150. Puck line: Washington +1.5 (-194); Carolina -1.5 (+144). Total: Over 6.5 (+104); Under 6.5 (-127).

Washington Capitals outlook

Washington’s latest loss included encouraging moments from several forwards. Alex Ovechkin scored his first goal of the season, Jordan Kyrou scored his first as a Capital, and Boone Jenner made it 3-3 just 46 seconds into the third period. The Capitals were still in position to win before Seattle scored the final two goals.

Carbery’s criticism puts puck management at the center of Washington’s response. The Capitals need to turn those individual scoring contributions into a more complete performance. Their two early power plays against Seattle produced no goals, and they received no additional opportunities.

Pierre-Luc Dubois missed that game because of illness, prompting changes to all four forward lines. That disruption matters when assessing the loss, though it should not be treated as confirmation that he will miss Carolina. Logan Thompson made 22 saves against Seattle; that outing supplies recent context without identifying Tuesday’s starter.

Carolina Hurricanes outlook

Sebastian Aho gives Carolina its strongest individual offensive argument. Through Oct. 11, he led the team with six goals and 11 points. His six-game point streak contained six goals and five assists, a sustained contribution across much of the Hurricanes’ early schedule.

Andrei Svechnikov recorded a goal and an assist against Philadelphia, bringing his season total to eight points. He had three multi-point performances in his previous five games. The Aho, Svechnikov and William Carrier line contributed to all three Carolina goals in the second period of that win.

Mark Jankowski supplied another scoring threat, finding the net for a fourth consecutive game and reaching four goals through seven games. In goal, Pyotr Kochetkov stopped 18 of 19 Philadelphia shots and improved to 3-0-0.

Carolina also carries personnel questions. Jordan Staal missed the Philadelphia game with a lower-body injury, although Rod Brind’Amour did not expect a lengthy absence. Seth Jarvis was recovering from offseason shoulder surgery. Neither report should be stretched into a confirmed Oct. 13 lineup decision.

Key matchup factors

Special teams favor Carolina in the recent evidence. Its penalty kill went 3-for-3 against Philadelphia, marking its fifth game of the season without a power-play goal allowed. Washington’s unsuccessful opportunities against Seattle make that a relevant obstacle, although two chances are too small a sample to define the Capitals’ power play.

The central question is whether Washington can keep its puck decisions from feeding Carolina’s offense. Aho’s sustained production gives the Hurricanes a credible way to exploit another uneven Capitals performance. Washington’s strongest counterargument is its ability to generate goals from multiple forwards, as it did against Seattle. That keeps this an ordinary, medium-confidence edge.

Washington Capitals vs Carolina Hurricanes spread prediction

Pass on Carolina Hurricanes -1.5 (+144). The projected two-goal victory clears this line, but a single projected score is not a measure of how often Carolina will cover. Washington’s scoring response against Seattle makes a narrower finish plausible.

Pass on Washington Capitals +1.5 (-194) as well. The one-goal cushion has appeal if the Capitals clean up their mistakes, but the price demands more conviction in a close game than their latest performance supplies. Neither puck-line side earns an official recommendation.

Washington Capitals vs Carolina Hurricanes total prediction

Pass on Under 6.5 (-127). Our six-goal projection tilts below the total, with Carolina’s latest penalty-killing and goaltending results supporting that direction. Washington’s eight-goal game against Seattle is the strongest caution against paying this price.

Pass on Over 6.5 (+104). The Capitals’ recent scoring and mistakes create a plausible route to seven or more goals, but Carolina’s 4-1 result offers a different picture. These two recent games leave too much uncertainty to turn either total direction into a wager.

Washington Capitals vs Carolina Hurricanes projected score

Game forecast: Hurricanes 4, Capitals 2. Carolina’s scoring leaders and penalty kill earn the advantage, while Washington’s multiple goal scorers provide the clearest upset argument. Confidence is medium. The official SportsJaw betting lean is Pass, with both the puck line and total requiring more confidence in the price than this matchup warrants.
