Game outlook

Toronto is on the road playing Detroit at the Little Caesars Arena stadium on Thursday, 1/12/2023 @ 7:00pm EST. Toronto -140 was the opening favorite and line hasn't moved.

Toronto Maple Leafs and Detroit Red Wings are both looking to build on promising seasons. As of right now, the Maple Leafs have a 26-9-7 record and are in second place in the Atlantic Division, while the Red Wings have a 17-15-7 record and are in the middle. The upcoming game looks to be a good one as both teams are hoping to improve in the Eastern Conference and in the division.

On both ends of the ice, the Maple Leafs have looked sharp

The Toronto Maple Leafs are having a fantastic season with their offense stepping up and scoring 3.44 goals per game. Mitch Marner, William Nylander, and Auston Matthews have combined for 57 goals and 84 assists to lead the top two lines. However, the rest of the offense has also played well. Tavares, Bunting, and Jarnkrok have combined for 41 goals and 48 assists, while Morgan Rielly has contributed 19 assists from the point.

The Red Wings' defense has been terrible

With their offense scoring 3.08 goals per game, the Red Wings are having a promising season. To lead the top two lines, Dylan Larkin, Dominik Kubalik, and David Perron have scored 39 goals and 42 assists, but the rest of the offense has also contributed. Michael Rasmussen, Andrew Copp, and Lucas Raymond have combined for 21 goals and 45 assists, while Filip Hronek and Moritz Seider have added nine goals and 37 assists.

After a statement win, the Red Wings look to step up at home. On both ends of the ice, the Maple Leafs look like one of the best teams in the NHL. When Mitch Marner, Auston Matthews, and the Maple Leafs carry the puck into the offensive zone and create open shots with effective puck movement, they should be able to find the back of the net at will against a Red Wings defense that allows 3.38 goals per game. With Mark Giordano, Justin Holl, and the rest of the Maple Leafs' defensive unit creating turnovers in the defensive zone and limiting shots on the net, the Maple Leafs, who allow only 2.61 goals per game, should limit the Red Wings' offense. Ilya Samsonov makes a lot of big saves in the net, allowing him to play well. A dominant performance on the road should lead to a Maple Leaf win.

Toronto Highlights

With a power ranking of 2, Toronto is ranked #9 in offense (scoring an average of 3.44 per game), #2 in defense (allowing an average of 2.63 points to be scored against them per game) and are 26-9-7 this season.

Detroit Highlights

Detroit Red Wings has a power ranking of 26 and are #20 for offense (scoring an average of 3.10 per game), #22 for defense (giving up an average of 2.63 points per game) and 5-4 overall. Toronto went 0-3-0 in their last 3 matchups against Detroit.
