Game outlook

New Orleans is on the road playing Tampa Bay at the Raymond James Stadium stadium on Monday, 12/5/2022 @ 8:15pm EST. Tampa Bay -6.5 was the opening betting favorite and current line is Tampa Bay -3.5.

The Tampa Bay Bucs look to add to their lead in the watered-down division while the New Orleans Saints hope to tighten things up even further. Tampa Bay defeated New Orleans 20-10 back in week 2.

The Saints are Still in the Playoff Hunt

With a win tonight, the Bucs would kill any hopes of the Saints' winning the division. New Orleans has twice as many losses as wins but surprisingly, New Orleans only trail the Bucs by a game and a half for the lead in the division. If the Saints have any hope of winning the NFC South, then this is a must win for them here tonight.

Despite their recent tough stretch and their last place standing in the NFC South, the Saints still have a shot at the division crown in what is medioctrity of the NFC South. At just 4-8, the Saints are still just two games in back of Tampa Bay heading into this this game. This is an absolute must-win game for New Orleans, if they plan to stay alive in the playoff hunt. Last week, the New Orleans Saints were shut out for the first time since 2001. QB Andy Dalton threw for 204 yards in the loss while the Saints ground game was held in check with just 63 yards on the ground. The Saints didn’t play their best game missing a field goal and Alvin Kamara fumbling twice, including one inside the red zone late in the game.

With a power ranking of 19, New Orleans is ranked #15 in offense (scoring an average of 22.64 per game), #25 in defense (allowing an average of 24.27 points to be scored against them per game) and are 4-8 (4-8 ATS) this season.

Tampa Bay Injures Taking a Toll

The Bucs have been Jekyll and Hyde all season. They started the season with two straight wins, followed by two straight losses and after three-game losing streak mid-season, the Bucs popped off two straight wins before traveling to Cleveland. In a game that seemed to favor the Bucs coming off a bye, the Browns rallied and forced overtime before winning it on a three-yard run by Nick Chubb with 19 seconds left in overtime. Tampa Bay had their chances in OT but couldn't put together a game winning drive. Tom Brady threw two touchdowns in the game but was unable to get anything generated in the overtime despite multiple possessions.

Tampa Bay continues to struggle running the ball (last in the league at 73 rushing yards per game), and the fact that the team had to reshuffle its line this offseason due to some key injuries, that makes their pass protection success look even more impressive. However, the line will be tested in the weeks ahead with starting right tackle Tristan Wirfs expected to miss several games after suffering an ankle injury during overtime last week.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers has a power ranking of 14 and are #27 for offense (scoring an average of 18.30 per game), #4 for defense (giving up an average of 24.27 points per game) and 5-6 (3-7-1 ATS) overall. New Orleans went 1-2 (1-2 ATS) in their last 3 matchups against Tampa Bay.

Betting Prediction

I don’t want to come off as piling on, but politely, I don’t know how Tampa wins this game. Everything the Bucs did last week, against a bad Cleveland team, looked like a struggle. And if you can’t run the ball in this league then that spells trouble. The Bucs run game has been stuck in the mud all season. The Saints defense stifled the Bucs in their first matchup and that was when Tristan Wirfs, Leonard Fournette, and Russell Gage were completely healthy. Injuries have played a big role in the Buccaneers’ season and unfortunately for Tampa Bay Bettors things have only gotten worse. I like the New Orleans Saints to win this game behind a big night from WR Chris Olave.
