Game outlook

Green Bay is on the road playing Chicago at the Soldier Field stadium on Sunday, 12/4/2022 @ 1:00pm EST. Green Bay -2.5 was the opening favorite and current line is Green Bay -4.5. The Packers are 4.5-point betting favorites to beat Chicago again, and the Over/Under is 43.5 points. Back in Week 2, the Packers beat the Bears 27-10 as 10-point betting favorite.

Green Bay in a Free Fall

Last week, the Green Bay Packers were defeated 40-33 by the Philadelphia Eagles. Aaron Rodgers, already suffering from a broken thumb, suffered a rib injury and left the game in the third quarter after failing to cover a 6.5-point spread. In relief, Jordan Love completed six of nine passing attempts for 113 yards and a touchdown in place of Rodgers, who completed 11-of-16 for 140 yards and two touchdowns.

The Packers got pounded on the ground and allowed the Eagles to rush 49 times for 36 yards. Green Bay rushed 21 times for 106 yards, led by AJ Dillon with eight carries for 64 yards. Christian Watson had four catches for 110 yards and a touchdown. Aaron Jones carried the ball 12 times for 43 yards and had three receptions for 56 yards and a touchdown. In the last eight games, Green Bay has posted just 1-7 SU and 2-6 ATS. Green Bay's defensive unit has struggled to stop anything on the ground due to its banged-up defense. With 154.8 rushing yards allowed per game and 5.0 yards allowed per carry, Green Bay ranks 31st in the NFL. De'Vondre Campbell (knee) was a limited participant in Wednesday's practice after suffering a foot injury.

Aaron Rodgers is expected to be in great shape to play in Chicago this Sunday. Rodgers has thrown for 1,085 yards and ten touchdowns with six interceptions over the last five weeks with a completion rate of 61.5 percent.

With a power ranking of 22, Green Bay is ranked #26 in offense (scoring an average of 18.36 per game), #16 in defense (allowing an average of 22.09 points to be scored against them per game) and are 4-8 (4-8 ATS) this season.

Chicago on a Five Game Losing Streak

The Chicago Bears are on a skid losing their last give games following a beat down by the NY Jets (31-10) in Week 12. Justin Fields sat out that game with a shoulder injury, so backup QBTrevor Siemian got the nod under center, and the Bears didn’t stand a chance against the fired-up Jets defense. Chicago had a 10-7 lead early in the second quarter, but didn’t score again and fell 31-10 as the Bears defense couldn’t slow the Jets on the ground or through the air.

Siemian who was also injured playing through an oblique injury), finishing 14-of-25 for 179 yards, a touchdown, and an interception. David Montgomery had 14 carries for 79 yards and three catches for 34 yards, while Byron Pringle recorded 12 yards and a TD on a pair of receptions. The Bears racked up only 292 yards of total offense and defensively surrendered 466 yards to the Jets.

Chicago desperately need Justin Fields back under center. His status for Week 13 is still up in the air, while Siemian didn’t practice Wednesday. If 3rd string QB Nathan Peterman has to start against Green Bay, then you might as well bet the farm on Green Bay right now. To add to Chicago’s troubles they will also be without safety Eddie Jackson who injured his foot last week and is likely done for the year. WR Darnel Mooney suffered an ankle injury against the Jets and he is also uncertain for this game.

Chicago Bears has a power ranking of 28 and are #17 for offense (scoring an average of 21.91 per game), #28 for defense (giving up an average of 22.09 points per game) and 3-9 (4-7-1 ATS) overall. Green Bay went 0-3 (0-3 ATS) in their last 3 matchups against Chicago.

Betting Prediction

The Packers should win this game comfortably even if Jordan Love has to play for Aaron Rodgers as Justin Fields won’t be 100% even if he does return from his shoulder injury. Both teams have a ton of injury problems, but the Packers still have more depth than Chicago, whose defensive unit has been flat terrible and now will be without Eddie Jackson at safety. Chicago pinned their hopes on their defense to start the year but the Bear’s defense has allowed 31 or more points in four of its last five games. And did I mention now they are without their starting safety Eddie Jackson? This all spells trouble for Chicago bettors and I think Green Bay will take advantage of the short handed Bears. Regardless of who is starting under center for Green Bay, they can still lean on the run game. Keep your eyes on Aaron Jones and AJ Dillon, who combined for 193 yards and a TD on 33 carries against the Bears in Week 2. Backup QB Jordan Love looked solid against the Eagles, so I really like the Packers here in this spot. Not to mention, as Aaron Rodger has said, “He owns Chicago” as the Packers are 7-0 SU and ATS in its last seven matchups. I'm not over thinking this one, the smart betting pick is laying the -4.5 points with Green Bay.
