Game outlook

Arizona is on the road playing Denver at the Empower Field at Mile High stadium on Sunday, 12/18/2022 @ 4:05pm EST. Denver -2 was the opening favorite and current line is Denver -1.5.

In spite of the fact that Russell Wilson finally played last week, the moment was likely fleeting. No one knows if he'll clear the concussion protocol and be under center on Sunday. In this stale offensive scheme, Brett Rypien is probably no better. The Broncos are 0-5 against the spread as favorites this season. Does Denver deserve to be a favorite at home, regardless of who's in charge?

With Kyler Murray's injury, the Cardinals aren't exactly a can't miss team right now, and even though Colt McCoy is serviceable, he didn't stand out in either the two games he started earlier this season or this week's game against New England, which was a full game by all standards. Arizona has been 1-2 against the spread in games played by McCoy — but if you want to go even more specific, Arizona has been 1-0 against the spread as an underdog in games started by McCoy. It is a stretch, but when it comes to these 2 teams, there is a lot of squinting and stretching required.

Denver Betting

Denver Broncos has a power ranking of 27 and are #32 for offense (scoring an average of 14.92 per game), #4 for defense (giving up an average of 26.75 points per game) and 3-10 (5-8 ATS) overall. Arizona went 2-1 (2-1 ATS) in their last 3 matchups against Denver.

Staff Prediction

As bad as the Cardinals have looked this season, I'm still bullish on this team's potential. I predict Arizona goes heavy run with James Connor against a suspect Bronco run defense. Arizona struggles defensively against both the run and the pass, but aside from this past week the Broncos’ offense has been stuck in the mud all year. Denver is what it is and Arizona has shown flashes this year and several close losses.

Score prediction: Cardinals 27 to Broncos 24
