Game outlook

Indianapolis is on the road playing Minnesota at the U.S. Bank Stadium stadium on Saturday, 12/17/2022 @ 1:00pm EST. Minnesota -5.5 was the opening favorite and current line is Minnesota -3.5.

The Vikings hope to regain some momentum for the playoffs as they face the Indianapolis Colts today. The Minnesota Vikings are cruising along at 10-3 while the Colts are struggling at 4-8-1.

Indianapolis Betting

The Colts are just trying to get to the end of the season at this point. The Colts fired their coach and appointed former player Jeff Saturday as the new coach and that hasn't helped to say the least. I'm not going to say they're tanking, but they're going nowhere but down and should have plenty of good options in the upcoming draft when they get one of the top picks. The Colts have lost three straight and are now 4-8-1 on the season. It remains to be seen whether or not Saturday stays on as coach beyond this season.

The thing is, they are in a terrible division and might still make the playoffs. I don't see that happening, as I think they will go the other way, but if they win out, they would have a chance. In the last game we saw the Colts, they lost 54-19 to the Dallas Cowboys before a bye week. As a team, the Colts had five turnovers and three Matt Ryan interceptions in the game. In a game that averages 16.1 points per game, the Colts give up 22.9 points per game, which ranks 18th in the NFL. Jonathan Taylor ran for 82 yards and Alec Pierce caught four passes for 86 yards and a touchdown.

With a power ranking of 26, Indianapolis is ranked #30 in offense (scoring an average of 16.08 per game), #19 in defense (allowing an average of 22.92 points to be scored against them per game) and are 4-8-1 (5-8 ATS) this season.

Minnesota Betting

It's not surprising that the Minnesota Vikings are 10-3 and will easily qualify for the playoffs, but despite their record, no one really thinks that they're a Super Bowl contender. Why? Well, because they lost 34-23 to the Lions last Sunday. You can see Vegas's opinion of the Vikings by the fact that they weren't even favored against the 5-7 Lions. In the loss to the Lions, the Vikings gained 416 yards on offense. Justin Jefferson had 11 catches for 223 yards and Kirk Cousins a ridiculous 31 for 41 for 425 yards and 2 touchdowns.

KJ Osborn also caught a touchdown, while Adam Thielen added 7 catches for 77 yards. Dalvin Cook only rushed for 23 yards, but scored a touchdown as well. Vikings' defense is problematic, as they allowed 464 yards to Detroit and Jared Goff threw for 330 yards and three touchdowns. They ranked 24th in points allowed, giving up 24.1 points per game. They rank dead last in total yards allowed, giving up 403.7 yards per game. As a team, they have allowed more than 30 points per game in their last five games, and their offensive and defensive lines have been injured.

Minnesota Vikings has a power ranking of 15 and are #10 for offense (scoring an average of 24.08 per game), #22 for defense (giving up an average of 22.92 points per game) and 10-3 (6-6-1 ATS) overall. Indianapolis went 0-3 (0-3 ATS) in their last 3 matchups against Minnesota.

Staff Prediction

There are obviously a lot of questions about the Vikings in Vegas. Last week, they were underdogs at 10-2, against then 5-7 Lions. This week, they are just four points favorite, at home, against the woeful Colts, who have lost three straight games. In this case, I think they've gone too far the other way as 4 points seems way too little. This is a no-brainer to cover the spread because the Colts are headed nowhere but down. The Vikings can score with the best of them, so let's not overthink this one - the easy answer is Vikings -4.

Betting prediction: Colts 17 to Vikings 27
