Detroit Lions vs Miami Dolphins Prediction, Odds and Best Bet for Nov. 8

Game time: November 8, 2026 at 1:00 PM ET

Venue: Hard Rock Stadium — Miami Gardens, FL

Article updated Nov 3, 2:59 AM EST

By SportsJaw Editorial Team

The Detroit Lions will beat the Miami Dolphins, with a projected score of Detroit 24, Miami 20. Detroit’s 230 rushing yards against Minnesota provide the strongest reason to favor the visitors, but injuries complicate the defensive outlook. Neither Detroit -7 (-109) nor the 50.5-point total offers a convincing wager from these results. The official recommendation is Pass, with low forecast confidence.

Detroit Lions vs Miami Dolphins prediction and best bet

Detroit gets the winner pick because its running game offers the clearest foundation for sustaining possessions. The Lions beat Minnesota 19-15 on Nov. 1 while rushing for 230 yards and allowing 266 total yards. Repeating that combination would put Miami under pressure to capitalize on its scoring opportunities.

The betting decision is less clear. Detroit won that game by four points, and several players left injured. Miami lost 24-19 to New England but received two touchdown passes from Malik Willis and two sacks from Chop Robinson. Those contributions give the Dolphins a credible route to staying within a touchdown. Best bet: Pass. Favoring Detroit outright does not justify laying seven points.

Detroit Lions outlook

Jahmyr Gibbs supplied 153 rushing yards against Minnesota, and Sione Vaki added 65. Their production is the main reason to project Detroit as the winner. If the Lions can generate similar gains against Miami, they can sustain drives without needing repeated big passing plays. The limitation is that this was one performance against a different opponent, rather than evidence of how Miami will defend those runners.

Detroit also recorded three sacks and a D.J. Reed takeaway while holding Minnesota to 15 points, its lowest points allowed that season to that point. Yet the Lions scored only 19 themselves. Strong rushing production helped deliver a victory, but it did not translate into a comfortable winning margin.

Availability makes that distinction especially relevant. Jack Campbell left with a neck injury, and Reed departed with a hip injury. The Sharp Edition’s Nov. 2 report listed Campbell as doubtful and Reed as questionable. Cade Mays and Jacob Saylors also left and did not return. D.J. Wonnum and Brian Branch were ruled out at halftime after a collision, while Jimmy Rolder did not return with a hamstring injury. Those exits complicate any expectation that Detroit will reproduce its defensive performance.

Miami Dolphins outlook

Miami’s passing performance against New England gives the home side a plausible response to Detroit’s ground game. Willis completed 21 of 32 attempts for 211 yards, two touchdowns and one interception. That was enough scoring production to keep the final margin at five points, although Miami still lost 24-19. The interception is relevant to possession security; it is not evidence that Miami lost the overall turnover battle.

Ollie Gordon II led the Dolphins with 69 rushing yards on 19 carries. His individual output was less productive than Gibbs’ performance, but the two faced different defenses. Gordon’s numbers alone also do not describe Miami’s entire rushing attack. Kevin Coleman Jr. contributed three catches for 46 yards and a touchdown, giving Willis a scoring connection in that game.

Defensively, Robinson recorded two sacks, and Jordyn Brooks led Miami with 11 tackles. Robinson is the clearest individual threat to disrupt Detroit’s possessions if the Dolphins can create passing situations. His sacks against New England offer a reason to respect that possibility, rather than assume it will recur. Miami’s case for a close game rests on converting its passing opportunities and interrupting enough Detroit drives to keep the score within reach.

Key matchup factors

The key tension is between Detroit’s rushing success and the uncertainty around its injured players. A productive ground game can reduce the need to chase points, but it cannot guarantee defensive stops. Miami’s two passing touchdowns against New England matter more to this forecast because Campbell and Reed carried injury designations in the Nov. 2 report.

Scoring efficiency is the other deciding factor. Detroit accumulated 230 rushing yards but finished with 19 points. Miami scored 19 despite two Willis touchdown passes. Both results caution against turning individual production into an automatic high-scoring projection. Detroit gets the edge for its combined rushing and defensive showing, with a smaller expected margin than the spread demands.

Detroit Lions vs Miami Dolphins spread prediction

Spread recommendation: Pass on Detroit -7 (-109) and Miami +7 (-110). The projected four-point Detroit win falls inside Miami’s spread, but the Dolphins need more than a favorable score estimate to become a bet.

Detroit’s latest rushing performance argues against confidently backing Miami, while the Lions’ injuries and four-point win over Minnesota argue against laying seven. The Sharp Edition reported Miami +7 at both its first look and publication. That unchanged spread says nothing about which side attracted more bettors. Neither side earns an official recommendation.

Detroit Lions vs Miami Dolphins total prediction

Total recommendation: Pass on Over 50.5 (-110) and Under 50.5 (-110). The projected 44 points favor a lower-scoring outcome, as do the teams’ latest game totals of 34 and 43. Two games against other opponents remain a narrow scoring sample.

Detroit’s defensive injuries are the strongest objection to an Under wager. Willis just threw two touchdown passes, and reduced defensive availability could help Miami finish drives. The early forecast adds no compelling weather reason to bet Under. A lower score is the forecast, but the total remains a Pass.

Detroit Lions vs Miami Dolphins Projected Score & Betting Picks

Game forecast: Detroit Lions 24, Miami Dolphins 20. Detroit’s rushing production supplies the strongest reason to select the visitors, supported by the defense’s three sacks and 15 points allowed against Minnesota. The projection gives Detroit enough offense to win without assuming another strong rushing day produces a runaway result.

The strongest counterargument is the injury picture, particularly Campbell and Reed, alongside Miami’s recent passing touchdowns and Robinson’s sacks. Those factors leave room for a close finish or an upset. Forecast confidence is low. The single official SportsJaw betting recommendation is Pass, with separate passes on the seven-point spread and the 50.5-point total.
