Atlanta Falcons vs New Orleans Saints Predictions October 5, 2026

Game time: October 5, 2026 at 8:15 PM ET

Venue: Caesars Superdome — New Orleans, LA

By SportsJaw Editorial Team

The New Orleans Saints will beat the Atlanta Falcons 24-23, with Tyler Shough’s recent passing production against a defense missing A.J. Terrell Jr. providing the strongest matchup reason. New Orleans’ injuries and costly finish against Las Vegas make this a low-confidence forecast. Neither Saints -2.5 (-120) nor the 48.5 total offers a compelling wager at the supplied prices. The official recommendation is Pass.

Atlanta Falcons vs New Orleans Saints prediction and best bet

New Orleans gets the narrow call because its passing attack offers a specific way to challenge Atlanta’s injury-hit coverage. Shough threw four touchdown passes against Las Vegas, and the Saints converted nine of 15 third downs. With Terrell on injured reserve, Atlanta must handle that challenge without one of its cornerbacks.

The best betting decision is Pass. New Orleans gained 381 yards against the Raiders but still lost 35-27, surrendering a 27-16 third-quarter lead as all four fourth-quarter possessions ended in turnovers. That result captures the uncertainty around this favorite: productive offense can coexist with costly mistakes. A Saints 24, Falcons 23 forecast leaves too little separation to back New Orleans -2.5 (-120).

Odds, game time and how to watch

Game: Atlanta Falcons at New Orleans Saints, 2026 NFL season. Monday, October 5, at 8:15 p.m. ET, 7:15 p.m. CT.

Venue: Caesars Superdome, New Orleans, Louisiana. Television: ESPN.

Record: New Orleans enters at 1-2 after its September 27 home loss to Las Vegas.

SportsJaw odds: Atlanta +2.5 (+100), New Orleans -2.5 (-120). Moneyline: Atlanta +130, New Orleans -150. Total: Over 48.5 (-110), Under 48.5 (-110).

Atlanta Falcons outlook

Atlanta’s clearest personnel concern is Terrell’s absence. The September 28 matchup guide lists him on injured reserve with a groin injury following his September 22 placement. Against a quarterback coming off four touchdown passes, that absence puts greater importance on how the remaining coverage handles assignments and limits completions in scoring situations.

Defensive end Samson Ebukam was also listed as questionable on September 28. His availability matters to the balance between pressure and coverage. If Atlanta needs extra rushers to hurry Shough, the defenders behind them would have fewer teammates available to help in coverage. If the Falcons can disrupt him without that commitment, their task becomes more manageable. That is a tactical possibility, not a prediction of a particular defensive scheme.

The route to an Atlanta win runs through forcing New Orleans to finish possessions cleanly. The Saints’ late mistakes against Las Vegas show how quickly a productive afternoon can unravel. Atlanta should not be credited with those turnovers in advance, however. Staying close requires its own execution, and Terrell’s absence is a concrete reason to resist treating Falcons +2.5 as an automatic value play.

New Orleans Saints outlook

Shough completed 29 of 42 passes for 250 yards, four touchdowns and one interception against Las Vegas, finishing with a 99.5 passer rating. New Orleans outgained the Raiders 381-340 and converted 60.0% of its third downs. Those numbers explain the Saints lean: their offense sustained possessions and produced passing touchdowns even in defeat.

Noah Fant supplied two of those touchdowns. Through the September 27 game, he had eight receptions for 66 yards and three scores. His production gives Atlanta another receiving threat to account for, although three touchdowns on eight catches should not become an assumption that every small collection of opportunities will yield similar scoring.

Health complicates the outlook. Travis Etienne Jr. was listed out with a hamstring injury, and coach Kellen Moore confirmed September 28 that he would miss time. Offensive tackle Kelvin Banks Jr. was listed on injured reserve after ankle surgery. Moore also said updates would follow on Carl Granderson, Anfernee Jennings and Pete Werner; the matchup guide listed Christen Miller and Barion Brown as questionable. Alongside those concerns, the 4-1 turnover deficit against Las Vegas is a reminder that yardage alone will not carry New Orleans.

Key matchup factors

The key question is whether New Orleans can turn possession into points without repeating its late giveaways. Atlanta’s coverage injury favors the Saints’ passing outlook, while Banks’ absence complicates their protection outlook. Neither matchup guarantees that Shough will repeat his four-touchdown performance.

As of September 29 at 05:43 UTC, SportsJaw’s combined consensus favored New Orleans -2.5 (-120) at 75% and New Orleans -150 at 68%. Moneyline support rose four percentage points from September 28. Over 48.5 (-110) led at 60%. These are blended consensus percentages incorporating a modeled sportsbook sample, not measured win probabilities or a separate tally of SportsJaw member picks. The support for New Orleans is clear; the price still needs its own assessment.

Atlanta Falcons vs New Orleans Saints spread prediction

Spread recommendation: Pass on New Orleans Saints -2.5 (-120) and Atlanta Falcons +2.5 (+100). The projected one-point Saints win would put Atlanta inside the spread, but a single projected margin is too fragile a reason to buy the underdog.

New Orleans’ passing production supports the winner selection. Its turnovers and injuries weaken the case for laying points at -120. Atlanta’s coverage concern, meanwhile, makes the +2.5 less reassuring than the projected score might suggest. The 75% combined consensus neither justifies following the favorite nor makes fading it profitable by itself.

Atlanta Falcons vs New Orleans Saints total prediction

Total recommendation: Pass on Over 48.5 (-110) and Under 48.5 (-110). Saints 24, Falcons 23 produces 47 points, only 1.5 below the total. That modest gap carries little weight without a fuller picture of Atlanta’s scoring outlook.

New Orleans’ passing touchdowns and Terrell’s absence create an Over argument. Etienne’s absence and the Saints’ interrupted possessions create scoring concerns. Turnovers can also help an opponent score, so they are not a clean Under signal. With credible paths in both directions, the 60% combined Over consensus is insufficient reason to commit.

Atlanta Falcons vs New Orleans Saints projected score

Projected score: New Orleans Saints 24, Atlanta Falcons 23. The Saints’ recent passing performance earns the narrow forecast against an Atlanta defense missing Terrell. This is a call for New Orleans to do enough offensively, with a smaller margin for error than its favorite status might suggest.

The strongest counterargument is the combination of depleted personnel and poor ball security. New Orleans already showed against Las Vegas that gaining more yards and converting third downs can still end in defeat. Confidence is low. Both supplied spreads are passes, and neither direction at 48.5 earns a recommendation. The single official SportsJaw wager is Pass.
