New York Jets vs New England Patriots Betting Picks & Predictions

Game time: October 18, 2026 at 1:00 PM ET

Venue: Gillette Stadium — Foxborough, MA

Article updated Oct 18, 7:15 AM EDT

By SportsJaw Editorial Team

The New England Patriots will beat the New York Jets, Patriots 24, Jets 20, with Drake Maye’s efficient passing and New England’s fourth-ranked scoring defense providing the strongest reasons to favor the home team. The Jets’ pressure and favorable rushing matchup should keep this competitive. Neither Patriots -7.5 (-105) nor the total of 43.5 offers a strong enough edge for an official wager.

New York Jets vs New England Patriots prediction and best bet

New England is the winner pick, but the best betting decision is Pass. Maye’s start and the Patriots’ 11th-ranked offense in EPA per play give them a supported advantage over a Jets offense ranked 20th. That favors New England outright without making a margin greater than a touchdown an automatic next step.

The distinction matters here. New York brings a defense capable of disrupting possessions and a running back coming off a productive game against Cleveland. The Patriots also have a specific weakness against the run. A competitive New England victory fits those competing strengths better than a confident favorite-cover prediction.

Odds, game time and how to watch

Game time: Sunday, October 18, 2026, at 1 p.m. ET, in Week 6 of the NFL season.

Venue: Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts.

Weather: The forecast reported October 16 called for clear skies, temperatures in the low 50s, no rain and west winds of 3 to 5 mph.

Records and form: New York is 2-3 after beating Cleveland 17-12. New England is 3-2 with two consecutive wins after a 1-2 start. The Patriots are seeking a 3-0 home record and a 2-0 AFC East record. This is the Jets’ first division game of 2026.

SportsJaw odds: New York Jets +7 (-108); New England Patriots -7 (-110). Moneyline: New York Jets +280; New England Patriots -350. Total: Over 42.5 (-110); Under 42.5 (-108).

New York Jets outlook

The Jets’ defense is the strongest argument for a close game. Through five games, New York ranked fourth in total defense, allowing 293 yards per game, and second in yards per play allowed at 4.62. Its eight sacks against Cleveland demonstrated how disruptive that unit can be.

Braelon Allen supplied the decisive 22-yard rushing touchdown in that victory and finished with 116 yards on 24 carries. He forced eight missed tackles and gained 102 rushing yards after contact. That performance gives New York an encouraging option with Breece Hall ruled out because of a quad injury, though one strong outing is no guarantee of another.

The Jets also ruled out receiver Adonai Mitchell with a finger injury, left guard Dylan Parham with a knee injury and edge rusher Joseph Ossai with an ankle injury. Aaron Glenn expected rookie receiver Omar Cooper Jr. to be active after returning to practice from injured reserve.

Garrett Wilson offers another route to offense. Against Cleveland, he gained 70 receiving yards on the opening drive, including a 32-yard touchdown, and recorded his 11th career 100-yard receiving game. Creating an early scoring opportunity again would help New York avoid asking its defense to carry the entire afternoon.

New England Patriots outlook

Maye’s efficiency is the central reason to pick New England. Through five games, he ranked fourth in drop-back success rate at 52.2%, seventh in Total QBR at 74.8 and 12th in EPA per drop-back at +0.20. Those measures support confidence in the passing game beyond the Patriots’ 45-point performance against the Raiders in Week 5.

A.J. Brown was activated from injured reserve after missing four games with a high-ankle sprain. His Patriots debut produced three receptions for 26 yards before the injury. His return adds a receiving option, but projecting a large workload or immediate breakout would be premature.

New England allowed 296.2 yards and 18.8 points per game entering Week 6, ranking fifth in total defense and fourth in scoring defense. The underlying split is less balanced: sixth in pass-defense EPA and 30th against the run. Christian Gonzalez was set to return, while fellow corners Carlton Davis III and Karon Prunty were ruled out.

Key matchup factors

Protection is the first test for New England. The Jets ranked second in blitz rate at 52.4%, and rookie David Bailey had 20 quarterback pressures. Maye’s efficiency makes him a credible answer to that pressure, but sacks and interrupted drives could keep the Patriots from building separation.

New York’s offensive choices matter just as much. The Jets ranked first in short-pass rate at 61.5%, while deep throws accounted for 8.9% of Geno Smith’s attempts. Allen attacking New England’s weaker run defense looks like a useful complement to that approach, although Parham’s absence complicates the blocking matchup.

Gonzalez’s history against Wilson favors New England in a limited sample: eight catches, 72 yards and one touchdown allowed across 51 coverage routes in their first three matchups. That is a reason for optimism about the assignment, not a guarantee that Wilson will be contained.

New York Jets vs New England Patriots spread prediction

Spread recommendation: Pass on Patriots -7.5 (-105) and Jets +7.5 (-115). The projected four-point New England win makes the Jets the more tempting side against the number, but their offensive absences and the Patriots’ passing efficiency leave too much uncertainty for an official spread wager.

SportsJaw’s October 18 consensus update at 11:05 UTC favored New England. Member support was 63%, the sportsbook split was 82%, and the weighted blend was 78%. Qualified handicapper support was also 63%. The blended Patriots share increased one percentage point from October 17. These are distinct measures of selection support, not probabilities of covering.

The popularity of New England does not settle whether it can clear 7.5 points. Allen’s rushing matchup and the Jets’ defensive efficiency are meaningful obstacles to that margin.

New York Jets vs New England Patriots total prediction

Total recommendation: Pass on Over 43.5 (-110) and Under 43.5 (-110). Both teams rank among the top five in yards allowed, and New England’s scoring defense strengthens the case for a restrained game. New York’s injuries add another potential limit on scoring.

The opposing case is substantial enough to keep the Under off the official card. New England just scored 45 points, Brown returns, and the Patriots’ run-defense weakness gives New York a way to contribute. The projected 44 points sit almost directly on the supplied total.

SportsJaw’s blended total consensus favored Over at 67%, compared with 71% in the sportsbook split. Member and qualified-handicapper support for Over were each 50%, showing no majority preference in those groups.

New York Jets vs New England Patriots Projected Score & Betting Picks

Game forecast: Patriots 24, Jets 20. New England’s passing efficiency and scoring defense give it the more persuasive winning case. The strongest counterargument is New York’s ability to combine pressure with productive rushing against a vulnerable part of the Patriots’ defense.

Confidence is medium in the projected winner. The expected margin leaves the spread unsettled, and the scoring projection offers almost no separation from 43.5. The single official SportsJaw betting lean is Pass.
