Missouri St. Bears vs SMU Mustangs Predictions Today

Venue: Gerald J. Ford Stadium — Dallas, TX

By SportsJaw Editorial Team

SMU will beat Missouri State, with a projected score of SMU 44, Missouri State 20. Kevin Jennings’ efficient passing and the Mustangs’ strong home scoring history give SMU the clearest matchup advantage. The supplied prices offer no compelling wager: laying 34.5 requires a bigger rout than this forecast, while the 59.5 total leaves meaningful uncertainty about Missouri State’s scoring contribution. The official recommendation is Pass.

Missouri St. Bears vs SMU Mustangs prediction and best bet

SMU is the winner pick because Jennings brings proven production into a favorable home setting. He has completed 73.6% of his passes with nine touchdowns through three games. The Mustangs have also won 20 of their previous 22 home games, averaging 45.6 points across that stretch. Those are persuasive reasons to expect SMU to control the scoring.

The best betting decision is Pass. Missouri State’s passing production and SMU’s turnover trouble complicate a spread requiring a 35-point victory. Our 24-point projected margin favors the Bears numerically, but their penalties make that cushion less reassuring. The projected 64 combined points suggest an Over argument without making Over 59.5 (-115) a sufficiently strong wager.

Odds, game time and how to watch

Time: Saturday, September 26, 2026, at 8:00 p.m. Central, according to both schools’ previews.

Venue: Gerald J. Ford Stadium, Dallas, Texas. Broadcast: ACC Network.

Records: Missouri State 1-2, 0-0 Conference USA; SMU 2-1, 1-1 ACC. SMU is No. 22 in the AP poll.

Weather: The Richardson-area Saturday-night forecast calls for mostly clear skies, a low around 74°F and south-southeast wind around 5 mph.

SportsJaw odds: Missouri State +2,250 moneyline, +34.5 (-110); SMU -10,000 moneyline, -34.5 (-110). Total: Over 59.5 (-115), Under 59.5 (-105).

Missouri St. Bears outlook

Missouri State’s strongest offensive argument starts with Skyler Locklear. Through three games, he has completed 44 of 65 passes for 597 yards, three touchdowns and one interception. His 67.7% completion rate gives the Bears a credible passing foundation, although it should not be treated as a guarantee of sustained drives against SMU.

Isaiah Myers supplies a significant receiving threat with 12 catches for 296 yards. That production makes him central to the Bears’ chance of keeping the scoreboard moving. Missouri State need not match Jennings possession for possession to stay within 34.5 points, but empty stretches would leave it vulnerable to a much larger deficit.

Discipline is the clearest concern. The Bears have committed 30 penalties for 218 yards through three games, including 11 for 87 yards in the September 19 loss to Marshall. Repeating that pattern could put Locklear in difficult passing situations and erase opportunities to sustain possession.

The offensive task is therefore specific: get useful production from the Locklear-Myers connection without repeatedly surrendering yardage through penalties. Missouri State lost the first series meeting 28-10 in 2025. That offers historical context, but this forecast rests more heavily on the current passing numbers and the Bears’ costly mistakes.

SMU Mustangs outlook

Jennings has passed for 989 yards and nine touchdowns through three games. Combined with his 73.6% completion rate, those numbers support a substantial SMU scoring projection. The home record strengthens that view: the Mustangs are 20-2 over their previous 22 games at Ford Stadium dating to 2022, with 45.6 points per game.

SMU’s official preview reports that opponents have converted seven of 38 third-down attempts this season. The program also cites 129 sacks since 2023 and 53 takeaways since 2024. Those longer windows describe a history of disruption, rather than production attributable entirely to this year’s defense.

The immediate concern is ball security. Field Level Media reports a minus-four turnover margin, with four turnovers against Florida State and three in the 41-31 loss at Louisville. An offense can move the ball efficiently and still waste scoring opportunities. That distinction matters especially when the spread demands such a large winning margin.

Louisville also rushed for 265 yards on 37 carries against SMU on September 19. Missouri State is not guaranteed to reproduce that success, but the performance is a substantial caution against projecting defensive dominance throughout this game. SMU has a strong winning case with enough vulnerabilities to make a runaway less certain.

Key matchup factors

Penalties and possession-ending mistakes could determine how far this game separates. Missouri State risks making its passing offense work through unfavorable situations. SMU risks wasting its own efficiency with turnovers. The winner forecast favors the Mustangs, but neither mistake pattern fits comfortably with laying 34.5.

The total consensus leans toward scoring. At the September 26 update, 6:10 a.m. UTC, the combined equivalent count favored Over 415 to 186, with a 69% blended share. That count incorporates a modeled sportsbook sample and SportsJaw participation; it is not an observed ticket count. SportsJaw members separately favored Under 59.5 (-105). These are preference measures, not win probabilities or evidence that either total price offers value.

Missouri St. Bears vs SMU Mustangs spread prediction

Spread recommendation: Pass on Missouri State +34.5 (-110) and SMU -34.5 (-110). The forecast gives Missouri State a 10.5-point cushion relative to the spread, making the Bears the more plausible side to consider.

That arithmetic is only a starting point. Their penalty burden creates room for the game to deteriorate, while SMU’s home scoring history leaves a substantial rout plausible. Conversely, the Mustangs’ turnovers and recent rushing defense trouble argue against laying the points. The projected margin has too much uncertainty to turn either side into the official wager.

Missouri St. Bears vs SMU Mustangs total prediction

Total recommendation: Pass on Over 59.5 (-115) and Under 59.5 (-105). The 64-point projection sits 4.5 points above the total, supported by Jennings’ production and Missouri State’s productive quarterback-receiver connection.

The scoring risk runs both ways. SMU’s reported third-down results suggest the Bears could struggle to extend possessions, while Mustang turnovers could interrupt otherwise promising drives. Turnovers may also create favorable scoring opportunities for the opponent, so their effect is uncertain. The consensus preference for Over adds no independent explanation of how either offense will finish drives.

Missouri St. Bears vs SMU Mustangs projected score

Game forecast: SMU 44, Missouri State 20. Jennings’ passing efficiency and SMU’s home scoring record make the Mustangs the decisive winner selection, with medium confidence. The projection gives Missouri State credit for Locklear and Myers while expecting SMU to produce more consistent offense.

The strongest counterargument is SMU’s recent combination of giveaways and vulnerable rushing defense. Those problems could keep the Bears closer than expected; Missouri State’s penalties could push the margin the other direction. A comfortable SMU win remains the central forecast, but its exact size is less secure. Both spread and total recommendations remain Pass, and the single official SportsJaw betting lean is Pass.
