Maryland Terrapins vs Connecticut Huskies Betting Picks & Predictions
Both offenses delivered big opening performances, but those results offer limited grounds for a wager on their first meeting of the 2026 season.
Two strong starts, one tougher test
The Maryland Terrapins visit the Connecticut Huskies at Pratt & Whitney Stadium at Rentschler Field on September 12, 2026, in college football action. Both teams enter after decisive wins over FCS opponents, with CBS Sports describing this matchup as their first significant test.
Maryland beat Hampton 62-0, rushing for 365 yards and six touchdowns. Its defense surrendered 85 total yards and 10 rushing yards while collecting five sacks and three interceptions. Those numbers establish what Maryland accomplished in its opener, but do not establish a defensive advantage against UConn.
DeJuan Williams contributed 116 rushing yards and two touchdowns. Testudo Times reported that he left the opener after tweaking his knee and that his availability for UConn was unknown. Quarterback Malik Washington passed for 186 yards and one touchdown against Hampton.
Osborne supplies an encouraging opening performance
UConn began Jason Candle’s tenure with a 56-7 victory over Lafayette and a school-record 671 total yards. Kalieb Osborne passed for 265 yards and two touchdowns, adding 90 rushing yards and two more scores. The Huskies finished with 301 rushing yards.
Osborne’s production warrants attention, but one game against Lafayette does not establish how effectively UConn will move the ball against Maryland. The same limitation applies when projecting Maryland’s rushing success into this matchup.
