Fresno St. Bulldogs vs Utah State Aggies Betting Picks & Predictions

Game time: November 7, 2026 at 9:30 PM ET

Venue: Maverik Stadium — Logan, UT

Article updated Nov 2, 12:32 AM EST

By SportsJaw Editorial Team

Fresno State will beat Utah State 23-20 in our forecast for Nov. 7, 2026, with the Bulldogs’ balanced offense providing the narrow advantage. Their latest win featured 202 passing yards and 190 rushing yards, but Utah State’s strong defensive response makes this a low-confidence pick. Neither Fresno State -2.5 (-110) nor the total of 42 offers enough value to bet. The official recommendation is Pass.

Fresno St. Bulldogs vs Utah State Aggies prediction and best bet

Fresno State gets the nod because its latest offensive performance offers two credible ways to attack Utah State. The Bulldogs gained 392 yards in a 38-22 win over Oregon State on Oct. 31, with nearly equal production through the air and on the ground. That balance is the strongest reason to favor them against a defense coming off a strong showing against the run.

Utah State makes this a difficult favorite to back. Its 31-14 victory over Colorado State included 464 yards of offense and just 263 yards allowed. Our three-point forecast would cover Fresno State -2.5, but only narrowly. The best betting decision is Pass, with low confidence in the projected winner.

Fresno St. Bulldogs outlook

Fresno State’s win over Oregon State supplies a useful offensive blueprint for this matchup. The Bulldogs passed for 202 yards and rushed for 190, avoiding a heavy dependence on either approach. Against Utah State, the practical benefit would be flexibility: if rushing attempts become difficult, Fresno State has recent evidence of passing production to draw on.

Bryson Donelson delivered a 63-yard touchdown run, and Jayden Mandal connected with Josiah Freeman for a 26-yard touchdown pass. Those individual plays show how the Bulldogs generated scoring opportunities in different ways. A similar explosive play could decide a game projected to finish with only three points separating the teams.

The challenge is transferring that production to a different opponent. Utah State just held Colorado State to 77 rushing yards, so a repeat of Fresno State’s 190-yard ground performance is far from automatic. The Bulldogs’ 5-3 record is better than the Aggies’ 3-5 mark, but that comparison alone says little about how reliably Fresno State can move this particular defense. As of the Nov. 1 injury-report update, the official availability report for this game had not been posted. The named contributors’ previous performances should not be read as confirmation of their Nov. 7 status.

Utah State Aggies outlook

Utah State’s strongest argument starts with its defense against Colorado State. The Aggies held the Rams to season lows of 263 total yards and 77 rushing yards, including minus-5 rushing yards in the first half. They also forced two turnovers. That combination would make Fresno State’s preferred balance much harder to maintain if Utah State can reproduce it.

The offense contributed more than enough to make the win convincing. Utah State set its own season highs with 464 total yards and 247 rushing yards. Five scoring drives covered at least 70 yards, showing that the Aggies could sustain possessions rather than depend entirely on favorable field position.

McCae Hillstead completed 17 of 22 passes for 173 yards and one touchdown. He added 79 yards and another touchdown on 11 rushing attempts without committing a turnover. His rushing contribution gives Fresno State another element to account for alongside Utah State’s passing game.

The restraint comes from the sample: those numbers describe one excellent outing. Utah State’s 3-5 overall record remains part of the picture, even with a 2-2 conference mark matching Fresno State’s. The Aggies have a persuasive route to victory through sustained drives and defensive stops, but their season-high offensive output should not become the default expectation.

Key matchup factors

The central question is whether Utah State can restrict Fresno State’s rushing attack without allowing a decisive passing play. Donelson’s long touchdown and the Mandal-to-Freeman score illustrate the danger of treating the Bulldogs as a one-dimensional opponent. For Fresno State, maintaining both options would help prevent the Aggies from dictating its approach.

Utah State’s long scoring drives provide the counterweight. If Hillstead again contributes efficiently with his arm and legs, the Aggies can make Fresno State earn every possession. The two turnovers Utah State forced last week also matter, but projecting another pair would be too aggressive. This forecast rests on offensive flexibility, with a substantial allowance for Utah State’s recent improvement.

Fresno St. Bulldogs vs Utah State Aggies spread prediction

Pass on Fresno State -2.5 (-110) and Utah State +2.5 (-110). A 23-20 Fresno State win would put the Bulldogs half a point beyond the spread, leaving little cushion for a fragile forecast.

Utah State’s defensive effort and sustained scoring drives make the underdog worth considering, but our projected result would still lose an Aggies +2.5 bet. There is no compelling reason to force either side at these prices. Picking Fresno State to win is easier than trusting it to clear the spread often enough to justify -110.

Fresno St. Bulldogs vs Utah State Aggies total prediction

Pass on Over 42 (-110) and Under 42 (-110). The projected 43 points place the forecast just above the total. Fresno State’s 38-point outing and Utah State’s 31-point performance give the Over a plausible scoring case.

Utah State’s defensive showing pulls the other way, particularly if its run defense leaves Fresno State facing difficult passing situations. One recent game from each team is a narrow foundation for estimating scoring here. The projection favors a result slightly above 42, but that one-point difference is too small for an official Over wager.

Fresno St. Bulldogs vs Utah State Aggies Projected Score & Betting Picks

Game forecast: Fresno State Bulldogs 23, Utah State Aggies 20. The Bulldogs receive a slight edge because their recent run-pass balance offers multiple ways to respond if Utah State takes away one part of the offense.

The strongest counterargument is the Aggies’ combination of long scoring drives, Hillstead’s turnover-free performance and a defense that limited Colorado State to 263 yards. Repeating that combination could reverse the result. Confidence is low, reflecting how much weight rests on each team’s latest outing. Fresno State remains the projected winner; both spread sides and both total directions remain passes. The single official SportsJaw betting recommendation is Pass.
