Colorado State Rams vs Utah State Aggies Predictions October 31, 2026

Game time: October 31, 2026 at 3:30 PM ET

Venue: Maverik Stadium — Logan, UT

Article updated Oct 27, 10:53 AM EDT

By SportsJaw Editorial Team

Colorado State will beat Utah State 31-27 in our forecast, led by the Rams' productive offense and Hauss Hejny's strong return against San Diego State. Utah State's defensive advantage makes this a low-confidence upset pick. Colorado State +6.5 (-108) offers an appealing cushion, but neither that price nor the 63.5 total earns an actionable recommendation. The official SportsJaw selection is Pass.

Colorado State Rams vs Utah State Aggies prediction and best bet

Colorado State's offensive advantage gets the narrow nod over Utah State's defensive advantage. Through seven games, the Rams averaged 38.6 points and 460.1 yards, compared with the Aggies' 14.9 points and 306.4 yards. Hejny's performance in the Oct. 24 victory over San Diego State gives that season production a timely personnel boost.

The obstacle is substantial: Colorado State also allowed 44.0 points and 535.3 yards per game. Utah State gets a favorable opportunity to improve on its modest offensive output, while its defense has conceded 23.0 points per game. Expect Colorado State to produce enough scoring plays to win narrowly. The best-bet decision is Pass, with meaningful reasons for caution on both markets.

Colorado State Rams outlook

Colorado State's 56-49 win over San Diego State showed both the attraction and the risk of backing the Rams. They gained 549 yards, with 333 passing and 216 rushing, but still needed an enormous offensive output to overcome a defense that surrendered 49 points and more than 500 yards.

Hejny returned for that Oct. 24 game and completed 24 of 31 passes for 333 yards, three touchdowns and one interception. He added 85 rushing yards and two touchdowns. His ability to contribute in both phases is the strongest individual reason to favor Colorado State in a close game.

The explosive plays extend beyond one afternoon. Colorado State's Oct. 26 report credited the Rams with 11 gains of at least 50 yards, tied with Louisville for the national lead. Against San Diego State, seven plays gained at least 20 yards, including three scores.

Continuity remains a concern. Through Oct. 26, Colorado State had used 36 offensive and defensive starters, three offensive-line combinations, five cornerback combinations and five nickel starters. That turnover in personnel complicates the outlook, particularly for a defense allowing opponents to convert 47.5% of third downs. The offense may again need to compensate for repeated defensive breakdowns.

Utah State Aggies outlook

Utah State offers the stronger defensive season profile, allowing 344.0 yards and 23.0 points per game. Its latest result, a 20-17 loss at Texas State on Oct. 24, illustrates the central concern: holding an opponent to a manageable score has not guaranteed enough offense to win.

The Aggies recorded a season-high four sacks in that loss. Brevin Hamblin, Bronson Olevao Jr., Tyree Morris and Asher Cunningham each supplied one. Pressure is a plausible route to slowing Hejny, especially if Utah State can make Colorado State's changing offensive line handle difficult passing situations.

Cunningham also had 17 tackles, two tackles for loss, a half-sack, two forced fumbles and a recovery against Washington State on Oct. 9. Those individually dated performances give Utah State a concrete defensive threat beyond its scoring average.

The offensive case is less convincing. Grady Brosterhous completed 21 of 36 passes for 206 yards at Texas State. Javen Jacobs rushed for 42 yards on 14 carries and added two catches for 13 yards. Receiver Eli Wood's 82.6 Pro Football Network grade, listed fourth among Pac-12 receivers in Utah State's release, is encouraging. Still, the Aggies need their 14.9-point scoring average to rise substantially to control this matchup.

Key matchup factors

Third downs could give Utah State a way to keep Colorado State's offense off the field. The Aggies have converted 36.2% of their opportunities, while the Rams have allowed 47.5%, ranked 137th in FBS in the AP matchup report. Utah State need not match Colorado State's explosiveness if it can extend possessions and finish drives.

Turnovers point the other way. Colorado State carries a plus-8 margin against Utah State's minus-6. Those season totals favor the Rams, although they are no guarantee of Saturday's possession count. The forecast hinges on Colorado State maintaining enough offensive efficiency to survive long Utah State drives without relying on another five-touchdown performance from Hejny.

Colorado State Rams vs Utah State Aggies spread prediction

Pass on Colorado State +6.5 (-108) and Utah State -6.5 (-112). The Rams are the preferred side relative to the forecast: a projected outright win comes with a 6.5-point cushion. Their offensive production makes taking the points more attractive than laying them.

The reservation is how widely Colorado State's defensive problems could swing the outcome. Utah State's defense supplies a credible path to containing the Rams, and its offense faces a much more generous scoring opponent than its own season average suggests. The upset forecast is fragile enough to keep this spread off the official card.

Colorado State Rams vs Utah State Aggies total prediction

Pass on Over 63.5 (-109) and Under 63.5 (-110). The projected 58 points favor the Under direction, with Utah State's modest scoring and stronger defense pulling the expectation below the line.

Colorado State creates the opposing case on both sides of the ball. Its offense averages 38.6 points, its defense allows 44.0, and its latest game finished 56-49. Another exchange of explosive scores could overwhelm Utah State's usual scoring pattern. The projection anticipates some defensive resistance from the Aggies, but the uncertainty around their offensive improvement keeps Under 63.5 from becoming a wager.

Colorado State Rams vs Utah State Aggies projected score

Game forecast: Colorado State 31, Utah State 27. Hejny's return and the Rams' established explosive-play production earn the deciding vote. The projection expects Utah State's defense to reduce Colorado State's scoring while the Aggies improve offensively against a vulnerable opponent.

The strongest counterargument is that Utah State owns the better defensive profile and plays at home. If its recent pass rush interrupts Hejny's rhythm, Colorado State may struggle to build the lead its defense needs. That possibility keeps confidence low despite the decisive winner selection. Both spread prices and both sides of the 63.5 total remain a Pass. The single official SportsJaw betting lean is Pass.
