Arizona St. Sun Devils vs BYU Cougars Predictions October 31, 2026

Game time: October 31, 2026 at 3:30 PM ET

Venue: LaVell Edwards Stadium — Provo, UT

Article updated Oct 25, 10:54 AM EDT

By SportsJaw Editorial Team

BYU will beat Arizona State, with a projected score of BYU 31, Arizona State 20. The Cougars’ stronger record and Arizona State’s defensive struggles before its Kansas State win give BYU the edge in Provo. However, that case falls short of justifying BYU -16.5 (-111). Neither the spread nor the 51.5 total offers a compelling wager, so the official recommendation is Pass.

Arizona St. Sun Devils vs BYU Cougars prediction and best bet

BYU is the pick to win, but the best betting decision is Pass. The Cougars enter 6-1 overall and 3-1 in the Big 12, while Arizona State is 4-3 and 2-2. Arizona State’s defensive performance before last week gives the home favorite a credible opening: the Sun Devils were allowing 32 points per game entering their Kansas State matchup.

Arizona State then won 28-17, a meaningful counterweight to that concern. Cardae Mack’s four rushing touchdowns also give the underdog an offensive performance worth respecting. The forecast favors BYU by 11 points, but confidence is low. Picking the Cougars to win is easier than identifying value on either side of this spread.

Arizona St. Sun Devils outlook

Arizona State’s October 24 victory over Kansas State centered on Mack, who rushed 26 times for 159 yards and four touchdowns. That gives the Sun Devils a clear offensive priority for this trip. Another productive rushing performance would help them avoid asking the passing game to carry the entire scoring burden.

Reed Harris supplied six catches for 147 yards in the same win. Mikey Keene completed 10 of 20 passes for 160 yards before leaving late in the second quarter after being rolled on following a pass. His exit leaves a significant question for the forecast, but it is not confirmation that he will miss the BYU game.

Keene’s appearance also followed a recent quarterback change. Cronkite News reported that he would make his first Arizona State start against Kansas State after replacing Cutter Boley at halftime of the Texas Tech game.

Defensively, the Sun Devils have contrasting recent results: a 53-25 loss at Texas Tech followed by the 28-17 win over Kansas State. Their 32-point scoring-defense average and No. 120 ranking among 138 teams were reported before that victory. Those figures describe the earlier concern, not an updated average entering BYU.

BYU Cougars outlook

BYU’s 6-1 overall record and 3-1 conference mark provide the clearest team-level support for selecting the Cougars. They have the better record and host this matchup, with KSL identifying it as Arizona State’s first visit to Provo since 2021. Neither fact, by itself, makes a victory of at least 17 points the likely betting outcome.

The immediate tactical challenge is containing Mack without letting Harris provide another major receiving contribution. For BYU, limiting Arizona State’s successful rushing possessions would make the quarterback situation more consequential. That is a route to separation, although the forecast should not presume Keene is unavailable.

On offense, BYU faces a defense that recently surrendered 53 points but then held Kansas State to 17. The first result suggests opportunity; the second argues against assuming easy scoring throughout the afternoon.

There is less detail here about BYU’s current personnel and production than about Arizona State’s latest game. That limits confidence in a specific offensive advantage. The Cougars remain the winner selection, but their record should not be stretched into unsupported claims about quarterback play, defensive dominance or scoring efficiency.

Key matchup factors

The central tension is Arizona State’s defensive rebound versus its earlier scoring problems. Which version travels to Provo matters more to the margin than the teams’ records alone. Keene’s status adds uncertainty, while Mack offers a plausible way for the visitors to stay competitive.

Wise Guy Team’s October 25 update at 10:04 a.m. Eastern reported DraftKings spread-ticket shares of 50% per side, with 96% of spread money on Arizona State and 4% on BYU. Those are different measures, and the report supplies no ticket count. The money imbalance is worth recognizing, but it neither identifies the bettors nor turns Arizona State into an automatic value play.

Arizona St. Sun Devils vs BYU Cougars spread prediction

Pass on the spread: Arizona State +16.5 (-147) and BYU -16.5 (-111). The projected 11-point BYU win falls inside Arizona State’s allowance, giving the Sun Devils the directional lean against the number.

The price still matters. Paying -147 for Arizona State requires more conviction than this uncertain matchup warrants. Conversely, BYU’s cheaper -111 price is not a reason to demand a larger winning margin from a fragile forecast. Arizona State’s defensive improvement and productive rushing game are meaningful obstacles to backing the favorite at -16.5.

Arizona St. Sun Devils vs BYU Cougars total prediction

Pass on total 51.5, with Over 51.5 (-110) and Under 51.5 (-110). The projected 51 points sit only half a point below the line, far too close to make the score estimate a persuasive Under argument.

Arizona State’s recent defensive results suggest a wide scoring range, and Keene’s availability could affect its offensive outlook. Wise Guy Team reported 100% of displayed DraftKings total tickets on the Over, without a comparable total-money split. That ticket share offers no reliable shortcut to choosing either direction, especially without a published sample size.

Arizona St. Sun Devils vs BYU Cougars projected score

Game forecast: BYU 31, Arizona State 20. BYU’s stronger record, the home setting and Arizona State’s earlier defensive problems favor the Cougars. The projection allows the Sun Devils to contribute offensively without assuming Mack repeats his four-touchdown performance.

The strongest counterargument is Arizona State’s latest win, which paired Mack’s rushing production with Harris’ substantial receiving contribution and a much lower opponent score than the Texas Tech game. That combination could keep this closer than expected. With limited detail on BYU’s current production and an unresolved quarterback question for Arizona State, confidence is low. Both markets are passes, and the single official SportsJaw betting recommendation is Pass.
