Wisconsin Badgers vs Iowa Hawkeyes Predictions October 31, 2026

Game time: October 31, 2026 at 12:00 PM ET

Venue: Kinnick Stadium — Iowa City, IA

Article updated Oct 26, 10:12 AM EDT

By SportsJaw Editorial Team

Wisconsin will beat Iowa, 19-16, with its strong season defense and disruptive performance against USC providing the strongest reason for the upset forecast. Iowa’s run defense makes this a low-confidence call, but Wisconsin’s ability to limit scoring makes the spread of Wisconsin +3.5 (-116) worth backing. That is the official wager; the total of 36.5 is a Pass.

Wisconsin Badgers vs Iowa Hawkeyes prediction and best bet

Wisconsin’s defense gives the Badgers a credible route to winning this game without a big offensive afternoon. They allow 280.1 yards and 15.3 points per game, ranking 13th and 11th in FBS, respectively. Their October 24 win over USC added a timely example: five sacks, two interceptions and minus-17 rushing yards allowed.

The best bet is Wisconsin +3.5 (-116). Iowa has enough defensive quality to win, but the Badgers receive protection through a three-point defeat. That matters in a matchup between two teams allowing fewer than 16 points per game. Wisconsin gets the narrow forecast edge from its latest performance, while Iowa’s stronger season offensive numbers keep confidence low.

Wisconsin Badgers outlook

Wisconsin beat USC 24-7 on October 24, moving to 5-2. Its defensive disruption was decisive, but the season numbers are the stronger foundation for this forecast. Alongside its top-15 total and scoring defense, Wisconsin allows 96.6 rushing yards per game. That presents a meaningful obstacle for Iowa’s ground attack.

Colton Joseph supplies production through both the air and the ground. He has 1,256 passing yards, 11 touchdown passes and five interceptions, with a 57.2% completion rate. His rushing contribution is 365 yards and four touchdowns on 84 carries. Against USC, he completed 12 of 14 passes with a touchdown and added 32 rushing yards. That efficient outing is encouraging, although his season completion rate calls for more modest expectations against Iowa.

Abu Sama III ran for 71 yards against USC. Tyrell Henry has 28 catches for 343 yards and a touchdown this season. Wisconsin averages 330.1 total yards, 150.7 rushing yards and 27.0 points per game.

The Badgers score on 95.2% of red-zone trips, ninth in FBS. That includes field goals, so it should not be mistaken for touchdown efficiency. Their 28:23 average possession time, ranked 113th, also cautions against expecting Wisconsin to control the game simply by keeping the ball.

Iowa Hawkeyes outlook

Iowa has the clearest argument against the upset: a defense allowing 82.9 rushing yards per game, fifth in FBS. The Hawkeyes surrender 281.3 total yards and 14.3 points per game, with the scoring figure eighth nationally. Opponents convert 30.8% of third downs, the 17th-best defensive rate. Joseph’s mobility faces a difficult test.

The offense has the better season yardage average in this matchup. Iowa produces 386.7 yards, including 179.1 rushing yards, and scores 28.0 points per game. Kamari Moulton has 541 rushing yards and four touchdowns on 86 carries. Tony Diaz has caught 29 passes for 386 yards and a touchdown.

Hank Brown has completed 61.4% of his passes for 968 yards, six touchdowns and three interceptions. Two of those interceptions came in the October 24 loss at Minnesota. Brown finished 11-for-21 for 136 yards and a touchdown; Jeremy Hecklinski also played, completing 9 of 16 passes for 62 yards with an interception.

Iowa lost that game 13-10 despite outgaining Minnesota 288-209. A 4-1 turnover deficit and a blocked punt undermined a defensive effort featuring 10 tackles for loss and three sacks. The Hawkeyes held Minnesota to 72 rushing yards and 2-for-15 on third down. Cleaner offensive execution could readily reverse the forecast.

Key matchup factors

The key question is which offense can avoid obvious passing situations. Both defenses have strong rushing numbers, and Wisconsin’s quarterback run option meets an Iowa front with a better season rushing-defense average. Wisconsin’s red-zone scoring rate helps only if the Badgers first sustain drives.

Consensus offers a useful distinction between winning and covering. As of October 26 at 14:01 UTC, the combined spread consensus favored Wisconsin at 56%, while the moneyline consensus favored Iowa at 67%. Those are selection shares, not win probabilities. The consensus methodology uses a modeled sportsbook sample and SportsJaw participation; these are not observed ticket counts. The split fits a competitive game, but it is not the reason to bet Wisconsin.

Wisconsin Badgers vs Iowa Hawkeyes spread prediction

Spread recommendation: Wisconsin Badgers +3.5 (-116). Wisconsin’s season defense gives the underdog a reasonable chance to stay within a field goal even if Iowa wins. The latest USC performance adds support without erasing Iowa’s advantages against the run.

The extra half-point above three is useful, though the -116 price requires more conviction than an even-money wager. This is a modest edge: Wisconsin has the defensive production to compete throughout, while Joseph offers multiple ways to generate offense. Iowa’s higher yardage average is the principal reason to keep expectations restrained.

Wisconsin Badgers vs Iowa Hawkeyes total prediction

Total recommendation: Pass on Over 36.5 (-110) and Under 36.5 (-110). Both defenses point toward limited scoring, and the Wisconsin 19, Iowa 16 forecast totals 35. A 1.5-point cushion is too small to make the Under attractive on the score projection alone.

The offenses average 27.0 and 28.0 points per game, respectively, offering meaningful counterevidence. Iowa’s recent turnovers and blocked punt also illustrate how possessions can change abruptly. The defensive case favors a low score, but the spread offers the stronger wager at these prices.

Wisconsin Badgers vs Iowa Hawkeyes projected score

Game forecast: Wisconsin Badgers 19, Iowa Hawkeyes 16. Wisconsin’s defense and Joseph’s encouraging performance against USC earn the Badgers a slight edge. Their red-zone scoring record supplies another reason to expect enough points to compete, without assuming they will consistently finish drives with touchdowns.

Iowa’s run defense and superior offensive yardage average are substantial counterarguments. The Hawkeyes also played well defensively in their latest loss, so that result should not be treated as evidence of a broad decline. Confidence is low because the matchup remains closely balanced. The single official SportsJaw wager is Wisconsin Badgers +3.5 (-116). The total remains a Pass.
