Tulane Green Wave vs Charlotte 49ers Predictions October 30, 2026

Game time: October 30, 2026 at 7:00 PM ET

Venue: Jerry Richardson Stadium — Charlotte, NC

Article updated Oct 26, 9:13 AM EDT

By SportsJaw Editorial Team

Tulane will beat Charlotte 28-24, with the 49ers’ defense allowing 40.6 points per game providing the strongest reason to favor the Green Wave. Charlotte’s recent offensive success and Tulane’s defensive weaknesses point toward a competitive game. Neither Tulane -10.5 nor the 46.5 total offers a convincing betting edge at the supplied prices. The official recommendation is Pass, with low forecast confidence.

Tulane Green Wave vs Charlotte 49ers prediction and best bet

Tulane gets the pick because Charlotte has been more vulnerable defensively across the season. The Green Wave’s modest offense faces a unit surrendering 465.1 yards per game and allowing scores on 93.8% of opponents’ red-zone possessions. That combination gives Tulane a plausible route beyond its 20.3-point scoring average.

Winning and covering are different questions here. Tulane has lost all three road games, and Charlotte’s 38-31 victory at Temple showed a way for the underdog to stay competitive. The total also presents competing signals: low season scoring averages meet defenses that offer opportunities for improvement. The best betting decision is Pass on both markets, while the game forecast favors Tulane.

Tulane Green Wave outlook

Tulane averages 332.0 yards and 20.3 points per game, so its offensive case rests heavily on the opponent. Charlotte allows 278.0 passing yards and 187.1 rushing yards per game. Those weaknesses give the Green Wave options, but they still need cleaner execution than they delivered in the 42-19 loss to UTSA on October 24.

Johnnie Daniels supplied the brightest individual performance in that defeat, rushing eight times for 104 yards and a touchdown. His 13.0 yards per carry demonstrate how productive those particular touches were; eight attempts are too few to assume he can repeat that pace with more work. Even a less explosive performance could help Tulane finish drives against Charlotte.

Trace Johnson completed 24 of 44 passes for 265 yards, with no passing touchdowns and two interceptions. The American Conference reported six Tulane turnovers in the game, making ball security a central concern.

Tulane’s defense also leaves the outcome exposed. It allows 417.1 yards and 24.6 points per game, including 214.0 rushing yards. A 50.0% opponent third-down conversion rate offers Charlotte opportunities to extend possessions. Tulane’s 3-1 home record contrasts with an 0-3 road mark, another reason to temper expectations for a comfortable win.

Charlotte 49ers outlook

Charlotte’s strongest argument comes from its October 17 win at Temple. Conner Harrell completed 23 of 31 passes for 281 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions, then added two rushing touchdowns. Henry Rutledge contributed 123 rushing yards on 17 carries. That performance gives the 49ers a credible offensive route into this matchup.

Rutledge’s production is especially relevant against a Tulane defense allowing 214.0 rushing yards per game. Harrell’s ability to contribute scores through the air and on the ground adds another challenge. Charlotte can plausibly exceed its season scoring average without matching all 38 points from the Temple game.

The broader offensive record remains modest: 310.9 yards and 19.1 points per game. One productive outing should influence the forecast without replacing those season numbers. Charlotte is also 0-3 at home, so the venue alone offers little reassurance.

Defense remains the larger obstacle. The 49ers surrender 40.6 points per game and allow opponents to convert 45.1% of third downs. Their minus-11 turnover margin adds another concern, although that team figure should not be attributed entirely to Harrell. Charlotte needs another efficient offensive performance because its defensive results make a low-scoring win difficult to project.

Key matchup factors

Finishing possessions could separate these teams. Tulane scores on 86.7% of its red-zone trips, while Charlotte allows scores on 93.8%. Those are scoring rates, not touchdown rates, so they favor Tulane’s chances of collecting points without guaranteeing seven on each opportunity.

Possession security is the other major variable. Tulane’s minus-1 season turnover margin compares favorably with Charlotte’s minus-11, yet the six-turnover UTSA defeat shows how quickly the Green Wave can undermine that advantage. Charlotte’s rushing options also give it a route to exploit Tulane’s defensive weakness. Together, those factors favor Tulane to win while leaving substantial uncertainty around the margin and combined score.

Tulane Green Wave vs Charlotte 49ers spread prediction

Spread recommendation: Pass on Tulane -10.5 (-105) and Charlotte +10.5 (-115). A projected four-point Tulane victory points toward Charlotte relative to the line, but the 49ers’ defensive record makes that cushion difficult to trust.

Tulane’s winless road record and recent turnovers argue against laying double digits. Charlotte’s scoring allowance and season turnover deficit argue against backing the underdog simply because the projection is closer. Neither side offers enough separation between the price and the matchup risks to become an official wager.

Tulane Green Wave vs Charlotte 49ers total prediction

Total recommendation: Pass on Over 46.5 (-110) and Under 46.5 (-110). The offenses average a combined 39.4 points, but that arithmetic overlooks the defenses they will face. Charlotte allows 40.6 points per game by itself, while Tulane has struggled against the run and on third down.

The 52-point projection favors the Over directionally. Still, reaching that score requires offensive improvement, and neither team’s season production makes that improvement dependable. Charlotte’s Temple performance strengthens the higher-scoring case without making Over 46.5 a sufficiently convincing wager.

Tulane Green Wave vs Charlotte 49ers projected score

Projected score: Tulane Green Wave 28, Charlotte 49ers 24. Tulane should find enough scoring opportunities against Charlotte’s defense to win, with Daniels offering a useful rushing option and the red-zone matchup supporting productive possessions.

The strongest counterargument is Charlotte’s potential to attack Tulane on the ground after Harrell and Rutledge helped deliver the Temple victory. Tulane’s road results and six turnovers against UTSA further limit confidence. This is a low-confidence forecast of a competitive Tulane win, with both offenses projected above their season averages because of the defensive matchups. The spread and total remain separate Pass decisions. Official SportsJaw wager: Pass.
