San Jose St. Spartans vs Nevada Wolfpack Predictions October 24, 2026

Game time: October 24, 2026 at 5:00 PM ET

Venue: Mackay Stadium — Reno, NV

Article updated Oct 20, 11:49 PM EDT

By SportsJaw Editorial Team

Nevada is the pick to beat San Jose State, Nevada 23, San Jose State 20, behind a pass defense allowing 156.3 yards per game. The Spartans’ disruptive defensive front makes this a low-confidence forecast. Neither Nevada -5 (-110) nor the total of 46.5 offers a strong enough edge for an actionable wager, so the official betting recommendation is Pass.

San Jose St. Spartans vs Nevada Wolfpack prediction and best bet

Nevada gets the narrow nod because its pass defense offers a credible answer to San Jose State’s receiving production, while its red-zone scoring rate gives the home team a way to finish close possessions. The forecast is Nevada 23, San Jose State 20.

The best betting decision is Pass. San Jose State’s pressure threatens Nevada’s scoring opportunities, and the Spartans bring the better overall and conference records. Those counterarguments keep confidence low. A projected home win is reasonable; paying for a five-point margin is a separate question.

San Jose St. Spartans outlook

San Jose State beat UTEP 24-11 on October 17 despite being outgained 462-426 and finishing behind 27-17 in first downs. Eleven sacks and just one touchdown allowed helped the Spartans overcome those disadvantages. They held a 24-3 lead midway through the fourth quarter.

Viliami Teu supplied the biggest rushing plays, carrying 20 times for 156 yards and two third-quarter touchdowns, including a 67-yard score. Nevada’s preview says that performance came in Jabari Bates’s absence. Bates leads San Jose State with 556 rushing yards through seven games, but his availability for this matchup is unconfirmed.

Carson Clark has 42 receptions for 509 yards and five touchdowns through seven games. Against UTEP, Daniel Rolovich connected with him for an 11-yard touchdown and a 63-yard completion that set up another score. Clark gives the Spartans a productive target, though repeating those explosive gains against Nevada is a tougher proposition.

Nevada Wolfpack outlook

Nevada allows 156.3 passing yards per game, seventh nationally through Week 7. That is the strongest statistical reason to favor the Wolfpack here. Limiting San Jose State’s passing output would put more responsibility on the visitors’ rushing attack and reduce their routes to quick scores.

EJ Smith has 71 tackles through six games, averaging 11.8 per game. Offensively, Nevada has scored on 20 of 21 red-zone opportunities, a 95.2% conversion rate. That measures scoring possessions, including field goals, rather than a touchdown rate.

Nevada leads the series 24-12-2 and won the 2025 meeting 55-10. This will be the teams’ 39th meeting. That history supplies context, but last season’s margin carries less weight in this forecast than the current matchup and San Jose State’s stronger record.

Key matchup factors

The central question is whether Nevada can reach scoring range often enough to benefit from its finishing efficiency. San Jose State has 27 sacks and 47 tackles for loss through seven games, with Jayland McGlothen contributing a team-leading six sacks. That disruption gives the Spartans a plausible route to controlling possessions without winning the yardage battle.

The UTEP result also deserves balance. Eleven of San Jose State’s 27 sacks came in that game, and the Spartans still surrendered 462 yards. The sack production is meaningful, but projecting another performance of that size would overstate the case for either an upset or a low total.

SportsJaw’s blended moneyline consensus favors San Jose State +180 at 75%, updated October 21 at 03:36 UTC. The accompanying modeled equivalent sample is 600 selections, split 450 for San Jose State and 150 for Nevada. Those figures are not observed sportsbook tickets or a standalone SportsJaw member-pick count. The percentage measures selection support, not win probability.

San Jose St. Spartans vs Nevada Wolfpack spread prediction

Pass on Nevada -5 (-110) and San Jose State +5 (-110). The three-point forecast points toward the Spartans against the spread, but that small cushion is too fragile to make an official recommendation.

Nevada’s pass defense supports a home victory without making a comfortable margin likely. San Jose State’s pressure and recent rushing production give the underdog ways to stay close. Neither side offers enough separation between the forecast and the supplied line to justify a wager.

San Jose St. Spartans vs Nevada Wolfpack total prediction

Pass on Over 46.5 (-108) and Under 46.5 (-110). The projected 43 points sit below the total, but the exact-score estimate alone is not a sufficient betting edge.

Nevada’s passing defense and San Jose State’s negative plays favor stalled possessions. The counterweight is Nevada’s red-zone scoring efficiency, along with the explosive gains San Jose State produced at UTEP. Passing yards allowed and sack totals do not describe the full scoring environment. The Under is plausible, but the evidence is too mixed to make it the official wager.

San Jose St. Spartans vs Nevada Wolfpack projected score

Projected score: Nevada 23, San Jose State 20. Nevada’s pass defense and ability to turn red-zone visits into points earn the narrow selection.

The strongest counterargument is San Jose State’s disruptive front, backed by the better overall and conference records. Confidence is low because either a few drive-ending losses or an explosive touchdown could overturn this small projected margin. Both market recommendations are passes, and the single official SportsJaw betting lean is Pass.
