Akron Zips vs Kent St. Golden Flashes Predictions October 24, 2026

Game time: October 24, 2026 at 1:00 PM ET

Venue: Zoeller Field at Dix Stadium — Kent, OH

Article updated Oct 19, 11:54 PM EDT

By SportsJaw Editorial Team

Akron is projected to beat Kent State 24-20 on Oct. 24, with its recent passing production providing the narrow edge against an opponent coming off a game without offensive points. Akron’s turnovers and vulnerable run defense make this a low-confidence forecast. Neither Akron +3 (-110) nor the 46.5-point total offers a strong enough case for an actionable wager; the official recommendation is Pass.

Akron Zips vs Kent St. Golden Flashes prediction and best bet

Akron gets the nod because its passing game offers a plausible route to sustained offense. Brayden Roggow threw for 234 yards against Miami (OH) on Oct. 17, while Kent State finished its loss at South Florida without an offensive point. That comparison favors the Zips slightly, though performances against different opponents deserve cautious interpretation.

The best betting decision is Pass. Akron’s four giveaways and heavy rushing-yardage concession in its latest game are substantial counterweights to the upset forecast. Taking three points is appealing in a projected close contest, but the cushion alone is not sufficient reason to buy the spread.

Akron Zips outlook

Akron lost 34-14 at Miami (OH), with four turnovers producing 21 points for the RedHawks. Ball security therefore sits at the center of the Zips’ outlook. Their passing yardage offers encouragement, but repeating that turnover total would put considerable pressure on every productive possession.

Roggow completed 22 of 38 passes for 234 yards and one touchdown. Miles Burris contributed six catches for 54 yards, while Marcel Williams caught six passes for 42 yards and the touchdown. Those contributions give the forecast a concrete offensive foundation without assuming a sudden scoring breakthrough.

The defensive concern is equally clear: Miami rushed for 324 yards. Rodney Nelson accounted for 142 yards and two touchdowns on 13 carries. Cyrus Durham supplied 1.5 sacks and two tackles for loss, but isolated disruption did not prevent a damaging afternoon on the ground.

Kent St. Golden Flashes outlook

Kent State’s 29-2 defeat at South Florida contained a striking difference between moving the ball and finishing possessions. The Golden Flashes generated 197 first-half yards but finished with 228 total yards and no offensive points. Their rushing average was 1.8 yards per attempt.

A 77-yard, 14-play drive ended with a fourth-down stop at South Florida’s 3-yard line. Another opportunity near the goal line became a 96-yard fumble-return touchdown after quarterback Dru DeShields mishandled a snap on a sneak. Kent State’s only points came from a defensive safety.

Those missed chances are the strongest argument for a rebound. Kent State reached threatening positions before mistakes erased the payoff. Better execution could change its scoring output, although the sharp decline in production after halftime also deserves weight.

Key matchup factors

The most consequential interaction is Kent State’s struggling rushing attack against Akron’s recently exposed run defense. Each side has a weakness the other might relieve. Predicting which one carries over requires more caution than simply treating Akron’s latest rushing allowance as a promise of Kent State success.

Possession quality matters as much as yardage. Both teams’ latest losses included costly giveaways, and Kent State’s goal-line turnover directly flipped a scoring opportunity into an opponent touchdown. The forecast assumes cleaner execution, not that either team has already solved those problems.

Akron’s passing performance supplies the tiebreaker. It is a modest reason to choose a winner, rather than proof of a broad offensive advantage.

Akron Zips vs Kent St. Golden Flashes spread prediction

Pass on Akron +3 (-110) and Kent State -3 (-106). The projected Akron victory points toward the underdog, but its recent defensive and turnover problems make that preference fragile. Kent State’s opportunities near the goal line also complicate any argument built entirely around its two-point finish.

A three-point Kent State win would push either supplied spread. That protection helps Akron’s case, but the forecast lacks enough separation from the competing rushing-game concerns to make it an official wager.

Akron Zips vs Kent St. Golden Flashes total prediction

Pass on Over 46.5 (-108) and Under 46.5 (-112). The projected 44 points sit below the total, yet that small difference is vulnerable to a defensive touchdown or improved goal-line execution.

Kent State’s stalled offense favors a lower score. Akron’s rushing defense and both teams’ recent turnover damage pull against a confident Under recommendation. Neither direction earns a bet at its supplied price.

Akron Zips vs Kent St. Golden Flashes projected score

Game forecast: Akron 24, Kent State 20. Confidence is low. Akron’s passing production is the deciding factor, while its run defense is the strongest counterargument. Kent State can overturn this prediction by converting the opportunities it wasted last week. The single official SportsJaw betting recommendation is Pass.
