Michigan St. Spartans vs UCLA Bruins Predictions October 24, 2026

Game time: October 24, 2026 at 12:00 AM ET

Venue: Rose Bowl — Pasadena, CA

Article updated Oct 18, 8:09 AM EDT

By SportsJaw Editorial Team

UCLA will beat Michigan State 24-14 on October 24, with the Bruins' sustained defensive success providing the strongest matchup advantage. UCLA has held four opponents below 300 yards and allowed just five third-down conversions in its past three games. Under 47.5 (-110) is the best wager at the supplied SportsJaw price; the Bruins' -12.5 spread is a Pass.

Michigan St. Spartans vs UCLA Bruins prediction and best bet

UCLA is the pick to win, while Under 47.5 (-110) offers the stronger betting case. The Bruins' defensive results extend beyond their latest victory: four opponents have finished below 300 total yards this season. That repeated success supports a forecast in which Michigan State struggles to score enough to push the total above 47.5.

The spread asks a different question. UCLA must win by at least 13 points to cover -12.5, and its most recent victory was 17-7 over Wisconsin. A similar separation would reward the Bruins on the scoreboard without rewarding their spread backers. The projected 10-point margin makes laying the points less appealing than betting the Under.

Michigan St. Spartans outlook

Michigan State was two seconds away from reaching the end of regulation tied against Northwestern on October 17. A 34-yard field goal settled the game at 24-21. That close finish is a useful counterweight to the Spartans' record, although it offers no guarantee of another competitive result against a different opponent.

Alessio Milivojevic completed 19 of 30 passes for 216 yards and two touchdowns. It was his third 200-yard passing performance of the season, bringing him to seven touchdown passes through seven games. Chrishon McCray supplied three catches for 64 yards, including a 53-yard touchdown, and had at least three receptions in each of his previous four games.

Jaziun Patterson contributed 72 yards on 15 carries and had reached 50 rushing yards in each of his previous four games. Michigan State nevertheless finished with only 89 team rushing yards and 305 total yards against Northwestern. Patterson's production gives the Spartans something to build around, but that team rushing total tempers expectations for a sustained ground attack.

UCLA Bruins outlook

UCLA's 17-7 victory over Wisconsin featured a defense that conceded 214 total yards, including only 66 through the air. Wisconsin became the Bruins' second opponent held below 100 passing yards this season. Those results strengthen the case for UCLA to limit Michigan State's most encouraging offensive route.

Ty Dieffenbach completed 22 of 33 passes for 264 yards in his first FBS start. Semaj Morgan caught five passes for a career-best 84 yards. Wayne Knight and Anthony Woods added rushing touchdowns, their 11th and fifth of the season, respectively.

Dieffenbach's performance was encouraging, but one FBS start leaves uncertainty about how consistently that production will carry forward. UCLA also scored only 17 points despite his passing yardage. The Wisconsin result supports confidence in the Bruins' ability to win a defensive game more directly than it supports a comfortable double-digit cover.

Key matchup factors

Third down is the clearest statistical pressure point. UCLA's opponents went 5-for-38 over its previous three games. If that defensive success continues, Michigan State will have fewer opportunities to turn individual gains into scoring drives. That is the central reason to project a modest Spartans point total.

Explosive passes offer Michigan State a way around that problem. McCray's long touchdown against Northwestern illustrates how a single connection can produce points without requiring a series of conversions. The forecast allows for some Spartans scoring rather than assuming UCLA will repeat Wisconsin's seven-point output.

For the spread, UCLA's offensive uncertainty matters more. A defense can help secure a victory while leaving a large handicap uncovered. For the total, the same defensive strength is useful even if the Bruins never build a decisive lead.

Michigan St. Spartans vs UCLA Bruins spread prediction

Spread recommendation: Pass on UCLA -12.5 (-110) and Michigan State +12.5 (-110). The projected 24-14 result falls on Michigan State's side of the number, but the Spartans' potential difficulty sustaining possessions makes their cover too fragile for a recommendation.

UCLA has the stronger case to win. Its recent offensive result, however, leaves room for a victory that falls short of the required 13-point margin. Neither side offers as persuasive a wager as the total.

Michigan St. Spartans vs UCLA Bruins total prediction

Total recommendation: Under 47.5 (-110). UCLA's repeated yardage suppression and recent third-down results support a lower-scoring forecast without requiring assumptions about either team's pace. The projected 38 combined points leave room below the supplied total.

The main threat is passing production translating into more touchdowns. Michigan State threw two against Northwestern, while Dieffenbach generated 264 passing yards against Wisconsin. Those performances keep this from being a high-confidence wager, but UCLA's defensive evidence makes the Under the strongest choice.

Michigan St. Spartans vs UCLA Bruins projected score

Game forecast: UCLA 24, Michigan State 14. Confidence is medium. The Bruins' defensive results support the winner and lower total, while Michigan State's recent passing success is the strongest counterargument.

UCLA's limited scoring against Wisconsin keeps the forecast short of a spread cover. Pass on the spread; Under 47.5 (-110) is the single official SportsJaw wager.
