Tennessee Volunteers vs South Carolina Gamecocks Predictions October 24, 2026

Game time: October 24, 2026 at 3:30 PM ET

Venue: Williams-Brice Stadium — Columbia, SC

Article updated Oct 17, 11:56 PM EDT

By SportsJaw Editorial Team

Tennessee will beat South Carolina 27-24 in our forecast for Oct. 24, with the Volunteers’ defensive performance against Alabama supplying the strongest reason to favor them. Holding Alabama to 201 yards gives Tennessee a credible path to another win, but South Carolina’s home field, bye week and recent victory temper the edge. Neither supplied market offers a compelling wager; the official recommendation is Pass.

Tennessee Volunteers vs South Carolina Gamecocks prediction and best bet

Tennessee gets the pick in a close game, with low confidence. Its 26-10 victory over Alabama on Oct. 17 offers a concrete reason to trust the Volunteers’ defense. The caution is how much of that result depended on four forced turnovers. Expecting another four takeaways would put too much weight on one afternoon.

The best betting decision is Pass. Tennessee +1.5 (-125) offers a small cushion, but picking the Volunteers to win does not automatically make that price attractive. South Carolina’s 38-19 victory at Florida and subsequent bye give the home team a credible counterargument. The total requires a separate judgment, and it also falls short of a wager.

Tennessee Volunteers outlook

DeSean Bishop supplied Tennessee’s most substantial individual offensive contribution against Alabama, with 32 carries for 159 yards and two touchdowns. Tennessee finished with 150 rushing yards as a team and 347 total yards. Bishop’s performance makes the running game a sensible starting point for this forecast, although it is not proof of a favorable matchup against South Carolina’s front.

George MacIntyre completed 21 of 31 passes for 197 yards, while Mike Matthews caught seven passes for 85 yards. Those contributions show Tennessee had passing production alongside Bishop’s workload. They do not reveal how South Carolina will defend either player, so the projection stops short of assuming the same distribution or efficiency.

The defensive result carries the most weight: 201 yards allowed and four turnovers forced. Tennessee limited Alabama’s yardage as well as taking the ball away. That combination is encouraging, but the forecast assumes a closer contest than the Volunteers’ latest 16-point win.

South Carolina Gamecocks outlook

South Carolina’s 38-19 road win at Florida is the strongest recent argument for the Gamecocks. Winning by 19 away from home deserves weight even alongside a 1-3 conference record. The result keeps this from being a straightforward pick based on Tennessee’s better overall record.

The bye also gives South Carolina a different preparation schedule. The Gamecocks had the intervening weekend free while Tennessee played Alabama on Oct. 17. Extra preparation is a reasonable consideration, although it should not be treated as a measurable scoring advantage.

South Carolina’s 38 points at Florida show what it scored in that game, not how reliably its offense can reproduce that output. Without a fuller offensive and defensive breakdown, the Gamecocks’ case rests primarily on that result, the break and playing at home.

Key matchup factors

The central question is whether Tennessee can carry its defensive success forward without another large turnover haul. Limiting yardage and creating takeaways both helped against Alabama, but they are different achievements. The forecast gives Tennessee credit for the former while allowing South Carolina more scoring success than Alabama managed.

Bishop’s workload suggests a possible route to sustained drives. If Tennessee can run effectively again, it could keep the game manageable for MacIntyre. That is a conditional advantage, not an established weakness in South Carolina’s defense.

The evidence is also uneven: Tennessee’s latest game comes with individual and team statistics, while South Carolina’s recent result has much less detail. More detail about one team should not be mistaken for proof that it is better in every phase. That imbalance limits confidence in the pick.

Tennessee Volunteers vs South Carolina Gamecocks spread prediction

Pass on Tennessee +1.5 (-125) and South Carolina -1.5 (-106). Tennessee is the forecast winner, but the underdog price asks bettors to risk 125 to win 100. The extra 1.5 points protect a Tennessee backer against a one-point defeat; a South Carolina win by two or more still loses the wager.

Tennessee’s latest defensive performance tilts the game prediction toward the visitors. South Carolina’s home setting and Florida result keep that tilt modest. There is not enough separation here to justify paying the Tennessee premium, while backing South Carolina to cover would require a stronger case than its home status alone.

Tennessee Volunteers vs South Carolina Gamecocks total prediction

Pass on Over 53.5 (-110) and Under 53.5 (-110). The projected 51 points sit below the line, making Under the direction of the forecast without making it an official recommendation.

Tennessee’s Alabama game finished with 36 combined points; South Carolina’s Florida game finished with 57. Those outcomes illustrate different possibilities, but neither supplies a dependable scoring baseline for this matchup. Turnovers could also affect scoring opportunities in either direction. A narrow gap between the projection and 53.5 is insufficient reason to bet.

Tennessee Volunteers vs South Carolina Gamecocks projected score

The forecast is Tennessee 27, South Carolina 24, with low confidence. Tennessee’s yardage defense against Alabama and Bishop’s productive outing earn the Volunteers the nod. South Carolina’s comfortable road victory before the bye is the strongest counterargument, reinforced by hosting this game.

Expect a competitive result in this editorial projection, with Tennessee winning narrowly. The spread and total remain separate Pass decisions. The single official SportsJaw betting lean is Pass.
