Akron Zips vs Miami-OH RedHawks Predictions October 17, 2026

Game time: October 17, 2026 at 3:30 PM ET

Venue: Yager Stadium — Oxford, OH

Article updated Oct 12, 12:09 AM EDT

By SportsJaw Editorial Team

Miami-OH will beat Akron, with a projected score of Miami-OH 24, Akron 20, behind a defense coming off its best statistical performance against an FBS opponent this season. Akron's productive passing and running game makes the margin less certain. Neither Akron +9.5 (-105) nor the total of 46.5 offers a sufficiently strong betting edge; the official recommendation is Pass.

Akron Zips vs Miami-OH RedHawks prediction and best bet

Miami-OH gets the winner pick for this Oct. 17 college football matchup at Yager Stadium. Its latest defensive performance and productive rushing attack offer a plausible route to controlling the game. The RedHawks also enter with a better overall record, although that difference alone is no reason to lay 9.5 points.

Akron's offense supplies the strongest challenge to that forecast. The Zips played efficiently against Eastern Michigan and still lost, while Miami needed a late defensive stop to beat UMass. Those narrow results favor a cautious margin projection. The best betting decision is Pass: picking Miami to win is easier than finding value at these prices.

Odds, game time and how to watch

Game date and venue: Saturday, Oct. 17, 2026, at Yager Stadium.

Records: Akron enters at 1-5 overall and 0-2 in MAC play. Miami-OH is 3-3 overall and 1-1 in the MAC.

SportsJaw moneyline: Akron +300; Miami-OH -400.

SportsJaw spread: Akron +9.5 (-105); Miami-OH -9.5 (-112).

SportsJaw total: Over 46.5 (-117); Under 46.5 (-104).

Akron Zips outlook

Brayden Roggow gave Akron an effective passing game in its Oct. 10 loss to Eastern Michigan. He completed 17 of 24 attempts for 229 yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions. Marcel Williams caught five passes for 89 yards and two touchdowns, giving the Zips meaningful production from that connection.

Jordan Gant added 117 yards on 22 carries, his second consecutive 100-yard rushing performance. Akron finished with 372 total yards, including 143 on the ground, and averaged 6.4 yards per play. That balance is the most encouraging part of its recent showing: Miami must account for both Gant and the passing attack.

The concern is how much went right without producing a victory. Akron forced two turnovers and committed none, yet Eastern Michigan won 25-23 on a 48-yard field goal with 1:50 remaining. Repeating the offensive efficiency would help; relying on another two-turnover advantage would make the forecast fragile.

Miami-OH RedHawks outlook

Miami's 20-19 victory at UMass on Oct. 10 featured a defensive step forward. The RedHawks allowed 319 total yards, 4.9 yards per play and four third-down conversions. Their recap identified all three as season-best figures against an FBS opponent.

Roosevelt Andrews III contributed 2.5 sacks and a career-high nine tackles. Malcolm McCain delivered the decisive stop on UMass's two-point attempt in the final seconds. Those performances explain the defensive optimism, but the finish also illustrates how close Miami came to losing.

The RedHawks rushed for 165 yards on 36 attempts, averaging 4.6 yards per carry. Quarterback Caleb Heavner supplied 54 yards and a rushing touchdown on 11 carries. His contribution adds another rushing threat for Akron to handle, although one productive afternoon offers no guarantee that Miami can dictate this game's pace.

Key matchup factors

The central question is whether Miami can interrupt Akron's offensive balance. Andrews' recent pass-rush production makes pressure on Roggow a key factor. If Gant keeps Akron out of difficult passing situations, the Zips have a more credible route to sustaining drives.

The latest performances came against different opponents, so their efficiency figures should not be treated as a direct ranking. Miami's defensive improvement is encouraging, and Akron's offensive output is a meaningful counterweight. Neither result proves that the same level will carry into this matchup.

Akron Zips vs Miami-OH RedHawks spread prediction

Pass on Akron +9.5 (-105) and Miami-OH -9.5 (-112). The projected four-point margin favors Akron relative to the spread, but that forecast is too tentative to make the Zips an official wager.

Akron's latest offensive showing makes taking the points attractive. Miami's defensive performance supplies the counterargument, particularly if pressure disrupts Roggow. With those competing signals, neither backing Akron to stay close nor asking Miami to win by at least 10 points offers a convincing edge.

Akron Zips vs Miami-OH RedHawks total prediction

Pass on Over 46.5 (-117) and Under 46.5 (-104). The 44-point projection falls below the total, but the small difference is not a strong enough reason to buy the Under.

Akron's recent offensive efficiency argues for scoring potential, while Miami's defensive showing points the other way. Rushing volume alone cannot settle the pace question: sustained drives can consume time and still produce points. The total remains a separate Pass.

Akron Zips vs Miami-OH RedHawks projected score

Game forecast: Miami-OH 24, Akron 20. Miami's recent defensive work and rushing production earn it the winner pick. Akron's balanced offense is the strongest counterargument and keeps the projected margin modest.

Confidence is low. Both teams just played narrow games, and their latest results leave room for materially different outcomes. Miami-OH is the projected winner; the spread and total recommendations are both Pass, and the single official SportsJaw betting lean is Pass.
