Fresno St. Bulldogs vs San Diego St. Aztecs Predictions October 17, 2026

Game time: October 17, 2026 at 10:30 PM ET

Venue: Snapdragon Stadium — San Diego, CA

Article updated Oct 11, 9:05 AM EDT

By SportsJaw Editorial Team

Fresno State will beat San Diego State, with a projected score of Fresno State 27, San Diego State 20. The Bulldogs’ productive, turnover-free performance against Boise State gives them the stronger recent offensive case entering October 17. Confidence is low, however, and neither Fresno State -8.5 (-117) nor the total of 44.5 offers a strong enough edge for an official wager.

Fresno St. Bulldogs vs San Diego St. Aztecs prediction and best bet

Fresno State is the pick to win, but the official betting recommendation is Pass. Its October 10 performance offers more encouragement than San Diego State’s latest result: the Bulldogs lost 38-31 to No. 23 Boise State, while the Aztecs fell 66-14 at Oregon State.

The difference favors Fresno State in the forecast without making an expensive road spread an automatic bet. These were games against different opponents, and a single week gives only a narrow view of each team. A seven-point projected victory leaves the Bulldogs short of covering -8.5.

Odds, game time and how to watch

Game time: Saturday, October 17, 2026, at 7:30 p.m. PT, according to Fresno State’s October 10 recap.

Location: San Diego. This 2026 college football matchup is the battle for the Old Oil Can.

Broadcast: CBS Sports Network.

Records: Fresno State stood at 4-2 overall and 1-1 in Pac-12 play after October 10. San Diego State was 2-4 following its Oregon State loss.

SportsJaw odds: Fresno State moneyline -330; San Diego State moneyline +260. Spread: Fresno State -8.5 (-117), San Diego State +8.5 (-111). Total: Over 44.5 (-110), Under 44.5 (-110).

Fresno St. Bulldogs outlook

Fresno State gained 346 yards without committing a turnover against Boise State. That combination is the strongest reason to favor its offense here: the Bulldogs generated production while avoiding giveaways. It remains a one-game performance, rather than proof that they will protect the ball equally well in San Diego.

Jayden Mandal completed 19 of 33 passes for 218 yards and two touchdowns, adding an eight-yard rushing touchdown. Khristian Martin completed his only pass for a 59-yard touchdown. Those contributions show Fresno State found scoring opportunities through both quarterbacks in that game, without settling how either will be used next.

Possession is the concern. Fresno State had the ball for 21:04 against Boise State’s 38:56. The Bulldogs scored despite that imbalance, but another limited-possession game could make a margin beyond one touchdown harder to build.

San Diego St. Aztecs outlook

San Diego State’s 66-14 loss raises obvious questions about its ability to keep this game competitive. Still, the final score alone cannot explain which defensive problems Fresno State is most likely to exploit. Treating that defeat as the Aztecs’ expected performance would put too much weight on one result.

Jayden Denegal threw an 11-yard touchdown pass to Jacob Bostick, his first receiving touchdown of the season. Jaylon Hawkins supplied a 43-yard reception and a 97-yard kickoff-return touchdown, his third kick-return score of the season. Hawkins is the clearest individual reason to leave room for a sudden change in the game.

Javion Kinnard returned from injury with 43 yards on 11 carries. His participation is encouraging, although it does not guarantee a larger workload against Fresno State. On defense, Tano Letuli recorded 14 tackles, while Sione Hala had 10 tackles, one sack and 1.5 tackles for loss.

Key matchup factors

Fresno State’s route to victory is more convincing than its route to a comfortable cover. Its latest offensive production supports expecting enough points to win. The possession imbalance, however, makes it harder to assume the Bulldogs will repeatedly get the opportunities needed to pull away.

San Diego State’s return game adds uncertainty in both markets. A Hawkins touchdown could help the Aztecs stay within the spread while lifting the total, but projecting another return score would be too aggressive. His demonstrated ability matters as a counterargument to a comfortable Fresno State win.

Fresno St. Bulldogs vs San Diego St. Aztecs spread prediction

Pass on Fresno State -8.5 (-117) and San Diego State +8.5 (-111). Fresno State must win by at least nine points to cover. The Bulldogs have the stronger recent case to win outright, but the evidence is too narrow to justify laying that margin at this price.

The 27-20 projection places San Diego State inside the number. That makes the Aztecs the side suggested by the score, but the gap between a seven-point forecast and an 8.5-point line is small beside the uncertainty surrounding their response to Oregon State. Neither side earns a wager.

Fresno St. Bulldogs vs San Diego St. Aztecs total prediction

Pass on Over 44.5 (-110) and Under 44.5 (-110). The projected 47 points sit 2.5 above the total, a modest preference toward a higher-scoring outcome rather than a sufficient betting edge.

The teams’ October 10 games finished with 69 and 80 combined points, respectively. Those totals are relevant context, but different opponents and Hawkins’ return touchdown complicate the comparison. Fresno State’s possession deficit also says little by itself about how quickly this matchup will be played. Neither direction deserves an official recommendation.

Fresno St. Bulldogs vs San Diego St. Aztecs projected score

Game forecast: Fresno State 27, San Diego State 20. The Bulldogs’ recent offensive execution earns the winner selection. San Diego State’s explosive return threat is the strongest counterargument to a straightforward road victory.

Confidence is low because the forecast relies heavily on one recent game for each team. Fresno State is the projected winner, San Diego State finishes within the spread, and the score falls above the total. Those forecast preferences are too fragile to justify a wager at the supplied prices. Official SportsJaw betting lean: Pass.
