TCU Horned Frogs vs Baylor Bears Predictions October 17, 2026

Game time: October 17, 2026 at 7:00 PM ET

Venue: McLane Stadium — Waco, TX

Article updated Oct 11, 8:55 AM EDT

By SportsJaw Editorial Team

Baylor will beat TCU 24-17 in the October 17 matchup, with the Bears’ consistent scoring defense holding the strongest matchup advantage against a struggling Horned Frogs offense. Under 52.5 (-114) is the best bet because TCU also brings a strong scoring defense. Baylor -6.5 (-106) is a Pass, with the projected margin leaving little room for error.

TCU Horned Frogs vs Baylor Bears prediction and best bet

Baylor is the pick to win, but Under 52.5 (-114) offers the stronger betting angle. The Bears held each of their first five opponents to 20 points or fewer, according to Baylor’s October 5 report. TCU’s October 9 offensive assessment placed the Horned Frogs 91st nationally in scoring.

The other side of the matchup matters just as much for the wager. TCU ranked 13th nationally in scoring defense in that same assessment. That gives the visitors a credible way to slow Baylor and makes a lower-scoring game more appealing than asking the Bears to win by a comfortable margin.

Odds, game time and how to watch

Game time: Saturday, October 17, 2026, at 6 p.m. Central. This is a 2026 college football matchup between visiting TCU and host Baylor.

Venue: McLane Stadium in Waco, Texas.

Broadcast: FS1, with radio coverage on the Baylor Sports Media Network.

Records and streaks: Baylor enters at 4-1 overall and 2-0 in the Big 12, with four consecutive wins. TCU is 2-3 overall and 0-2 in conference play.

SportsJaw moneylines: TCU +184; Baylor -225.

SportsJaw spreads: TCU +6.5 (-114); Baylor -6.5 (-106). Total: Over 52.5 (-108) or Under 52.5 (-114).

TCU Horned Frogs outlook

TCU’s passing yardage has not translated into enough scoring. Jaden Craig had 1,400 passing yards through five games, but the October 9 report credited him with only one touchdown pass against Power Four defenses and four turnovers across TCU’s three losses.

The problems extend beyond quarterback production. TCU ranked last in the 16-team Big 12 in rushing and 15th in sacks allowed. Jeremy Payne gained more than half his rushing yards after contact against Power Four opponents. In the three losses, 11% of his rushing attempts ended at or behind the line of scrimmage.

Kari Ashley offers a reason for optimism. He finished the October 3 loss to BYU with 108 receiving yards and a 13-yard touchdown catch. The October 5 reporting put his season receiving total at 374 yards, leading FBS tight ends at that point. TCU needs that receiving threat to produce more scoring opportunities after its bye week.

Baylor Bears outlook

Baylor’s conference wins show two different scoring outcomes: 23-13 against Colorado and 55-19 at Arizona State. The Bears have demonstrated that they can win with a modest offensive total or a much larger one. The recurring feature has been keeping opponents’ scoring down.

Gavin Freeman gives Baylor a productive receiving option. Through five games, he led the Bears with 42 catches and 479 receiving yards, along with two touchdowns. He recorded at least six receptions and 47 yards in every game.

Freeman’s 115 receiving yards at Arizona State marked his third 100-yard performance of the season. That consistency strengthens Baylor’s offensive outlook, although TCU’s scoring defense is a meaningful reason to project fewer points than the Bears produced in that latest win.

Key matchup factors

TCU’s ability to avoid difficult passing situations is central to the forecast. Its rushing and protection rankings suggest that falling behind could put more pressure on Craig. An early Baylor lead would make those weaknesses more consequential, though the evidence does not identify a specific Baylor pass-rush advantage.

The Horned Frogs’ defense gives them a route to staying close even if their offense struggles. That distinction separates the winner pick from the spread decision: Baylor can control enough of the game to win without creating much separation.

Turnovers are the main threat to a lower-scoring projection. Craig’s mistakes in TCU’s losses make that concern relevant, but their timing and field position are unpredictable. The total pick rests on the scoring profiles, rather than a forecast of takeaways.

TCU Horned Frogs vs Baylor Bears spread prediction

Spread recommendation: Pass on Baylor -6.5 (-106) and TCU +6.5 (-114). Baylor’s defensive consistency and TCU’s offensive problems favor the home team, but TCU’s own defense complicates laying nearly a touchdown.

The projected seven-point margin would narrowly cover Baylor’s spread. That is too small a cushion to make the Bears the official wager, especially when a single missed scoring opportunity could change the result against the number. TCU’s offensive weaknesses also keep the underdog from becoming a recommended spread play.

TCU Horned Frogs vs Baylor Bears total prediction

Total recommendation: Under 52.5 (-114). The projected 41 points reflect Baylor’s five-game record of limiting scoring, TCU’s strong defensive ranking and the Horned Frogs’ difficulty generating points.

Baylor’s 55-point performance at Arizona State is the strongest counterargument. The Bears have shown a scoring ceiling that could threaten this wager, particularly if turnovers give them favorable field position. Still, both teams’ defensive evidence makes the Under the stronger selection at the supplied total.

TCU Horned Frogs vs Baylor Bears projected score

Game forecast: Baylor Bears 24, TCU Horned Frogs 17. Baylor gets the nod because its scoring defense matches up favorably with TCU’s offensive weaknesses. TCU’s defense is the strongest reason to expect a competitive finish.

Confidence is medium. The edge is supported, but Baylor’s recent offensive explosion adds uncertainty to the total, while TCU’s defense limits enthusiasm for the spread. The single official SportsJaw wager is Under 52.5 (-114); both supplied spread sides are a Pass.
