Wisconsin Badgers vs UCLA Bruins Prediction, Odds and Best Bet

Game time: October 17, 2026 at 7:30 PM ET

Venue: Rose Bowl — Pasadena, CA

Article updated Oct 17, 10:37 AM EDT

By SportsJaw Editorial Team

UCLA is the pick to beat Wisconsin 23-20, with its Big Ten-leading rushing attack providing the strongest reason to favor the Bruins. Wisconsin’s recent defensive success and Colton Joseph’s production make this a low-confidence forecast, however. Neither UCLA -2.5 (-108) nor the total of 43 offers a convincing betting edge, so the official SportsJaw recommendation is Pass.

Wisconsin Badgers vs UCLA Bruins prediction and best bet

UCLA’s sustained rushing production earns the Bruins a narrow nod in this October 17, 2026 college football matchup. Their ground game offers a concrete reason to favor them, but Wisconsin brings enough offensive versatility and recent defensive success to challenge that advantage.

The best betting decision is Pass. A projected three-point win leaves almost no cushion against UCLA -2.5 (-108), especially with Wisconsin coming off a bye. The forecast favors UCLA; the price asks for more certainty about the margin than this matchup warrants.

Odds, game time and how to watch

Kickoff: Saturday, October 17, 2026, at 6:30 p.m. CT, according to Wisconsin’s official preview.

Venue: Rose Bowl Stadium in Pasadena, California.

Broadcast: NBC and Peacock.

Records: Wisconsin Badgers 3-1; UCLA Bruins 5-0.

SportsJaw odds: Wisconsin Badgers +1.5 (-110); UCLA Bruins -1.5 (-110). Moneyline: Wisconsin Badgers +100; UCLA Bruins -120. Total: Over 43.5 (-105); Under 43.5 (-112).

Wisconsin Badgers outlook

Wisconsin’s last game was a 31-3 home victory over Michigan State on October 3. Joseph threw three touchdown passes and rushed for 141 yards, a Wisconsin quarterback record for a conference game. The ensuing bye gave the Badgers a week without a game before this trip.

Through five games, Joseph had 1,132 passing yards and 10 touchdown passes while also leading Wisconsin in rushing yards and rushing touchdowns. Tyrell Henry supplied 26 receptions for 339 yards. Jacob Harris scored touchdowns against both Penn State and Michigan State, catching two touchdown passes in the latter game.

The strongest argument for Wisconsin is its recent scoring defense. NBC Sports reports that opponents managed only two field goals and no touchdowns over their previous 20 possessions, a stretch beginning with the September 26 Penn State game. That is a meaningful counterweight to UCLA’s rushing numbers, although it covers a shorter window.

UCLA Bruins outlook

UCLA’s five-game rushing profile is the foundation of this forecast. The Bruins led the Big Ten with 253.2 rushing yards per game and 19 rushing touchdowns. Wayne Knight, Jaivian Thomas and Anthony Woods combined for 1,019 yards on 148 carries, averaging 6.9 yards per attempt.

Knight rushed for 103 yards and scored both UCLA touchdowns in the October 10 win at No. 13 Oregon. It was his third consecutive 100-yard Big Ten rushing performance. He entered this matchup with 11 total touchdowns and 157.80 all-purpose yards per game.

The Oregon result also calls for restraint. UCLA won 17-15 despite collecting seven takeaways, comprising five fumble recoveries and two interceptions. Those turnovers were decisive opportunities, but forecasting another seven would overstate the defense’s likely contribution. The narrow final margin keeps that victory from being an uncomplicated argument for a cover.

Key matchup factors

The central question is how much of UCLA’s rushing efficiency survives against Wisconsin’s improving scoring defense. Favoring the Bruins rests on production sustained across five games. Favoring the Badgers against the spread rests on their recent ability to prevent touchdowns. Neither statistic directly measures this particular matchup.

Joseph supplies the other major variable. His production as both passer and runner gives Wisconsin more than one route to scoring. UCLA’s rushing success alone is therefore insufficient reason to expect the Bruins to control the margin throughout the game.

SportsJaw’s October 17 update at 14:23 UTC shows UCLA leading the blended spread consensus at 64%, with 387 of 605 combined equivalent selections. Those counts incorporate a modeled sportsbook sample and SportsJaw participation; they are not observed ticket totals. Member picks and qualified handicapper picks each favor UCLA at 60%. These are measures of selection preference, not UCLA’s probability of covering.

Wisconsin Badgers vs UCLA Bruins spread prediction

Spread recommendation: Pass on UCLA -2.5 (-108) and Wisconsin +2.5 (-106). UCLA has the slight forecast advantage, but a three-point projection barely clears the favorite’s line. Wisconsin’s defensive stretch and Joseph’s recent performance leave substantial room for a closer result or an upset.

The consensus preference for UCLA is consistent with the winner prediction. It adds no independent proof that the supplied spread is favorable. Taking Wisconsin would also require a stronger underdog case than the forecast offers.

Wisconsin Badgers vs UCLA Bruins total prediction

Total recommendation: Pass on Over 43 (-110) and Under 43 (-110). The projected 43 points land exactly on the total. Wisconsin’s recent touchdown prevention favors a restrained scoring forecast, while UCLA’s rushing efficiency and Joseph’s offensive production create credible paths to more points.

The blended total consensus favors Over at 72%, compared with 65% in the sportsbook split and 100% among SportsJaw member picks. Those distinct readings describe betting preferences. They do not outweigh the competing football evidence enough to justify an Over wager, and the recent defensive results are insufficient to make Under the official play.

Wisconsin Badgers vs UCLA Bruins Projected Score & Betting Picks

Game forecast: UCLA Bruins 23, Wisconsin Badgers 20. UCLA’s productive rushing attack supplies the deciding edge, while Wisconsin’s recent defense is the strongest counterargument. Joseph’s ability to contribute through the air and on the ground further limits confidence in separation.

Confidence: low. The Bruins are the projected winner, but neither market offers a demonstrated advantage at the supplied price. The single official SportsJaw betting recommendation is Pass.
