Oklahoma St. Cowboys vs Houston Cougars Predictions October 17, 2026

Game time: October 17, 2026 at 7:30 PM ET

Venue: TDECU Stadium — Houston, TX

Article updated Oct 11, 12:20 AM EDT

By SportsJaw Editorial Team

Houston will beat Oklahoma State, with a projected score of Houston 31, Oklahoma State 28. The Cougars’ balanced offense and defensive showing at Kansas State give them a slight edge at home. Neither Houston -3.5 (-110) nor the 57.5-point total offers a strong enough advantage to warrant a wager, making Pass the official betting recommendation.

Oklahoma St. Cowboys vs Houston Cougars prediction and best bet

Houston gets the winner pick because its latest performance combined offensive balance with a strong defensive result. That combination offers a plausible route to beating an Oklahoma State team arriving with substantial scoring momentum. The forecast is Houston 31, Oklahoma State 28, with low confidence.

The best betting decision is Pass. A three-point projection puts Oklahoma State inside +3.5, but that half-point cushion is too thin to treat as a dependable edge. The total requires its own judgment, and a projected 59 points leaves similarly little room above 57.5.

Odds, game time and how to watch

Game time: Saturday, Oct. 17, 2026, at 6:30 p.m. CT. Oklahoma State visits Houston in this 2026 college football matchup.

Venue: TDECU Stadium in Houston.

Broadcast: FOX.

Records and recent form: Houston is 5-1 overall and 2-1 in Big 12 play after Oct. 10. Oklahoma State is 2-0 in conference play and has won four straight.

SportsJaw odds: Oklahoma State moneyline +138; Houston moneyline -167. Oklahoma State +3.5 (-110); Houston -3.5 (-110). Over 57.5 (-110); Under 57.5 (-110).

Oklahoma St. Cowboys outlook

Oklahoma State beat UCF 42-28 on Oct. 10, using a 20-0 surge to begin the second half. The Cowboys gained 414 yards at 6.9 yards per play, compared with UCF’s 375 yards and 4.5 per play. Their scoring burst showed how quickly they could change that game.

Drew Mestemaker threw no interceptions against a defense that entered the contest second in the Big 12 in interceptions. That is a useful sign for this trip, although one interception-free performance is no guarantee of another. Protecting possessions would help Oklahoma State keep pace if Houston sustains long drives.

Justin Bowick caught six passes for 98 yards and a touchdown against UCF, bringing his season totals to 26 receptions, 442 yards and five touchdowns. His production gives the Cowboys a credible receiving threat. Oklahoma State has also scored at least 40 points in three straight games, making its offense the strongest argument against the Houston forecast.

Houston Cougars outlook

Houston won 35-16 at Kansas State on Oct. 10, gaining 475 yards while allowing 299. Its offense divided that output almost evenly: 242 passing yards and 233 rushing yards. That flexibility is the main reason to favor the Cougars, since their latest win did not depend exclusively on one way of moving the ball.

Conner Weigman completed 19 of 30 passes for 242 yards and four touchdowns. Patrick Overmyer caught eight passes for 83 yards and all four touchdown throws. That connection deserves attention, though repeating a four-touchdown receiving performance should not be part of the forecast’s foundation.

Re'Shaun Sanford supplied 90 rushing yards on 20 carries, while Makhi Hughes added 78 on 14 attempts. Before the Kansas State game, Houston ranked 20th nationally with 483.3 yards per game. Its offensive line had also allowed averages of one sack and 2.2 tackles for loss per game entering Oct. 10.

Key matchup factors

Possession efficiency is central to Houston’s case. The Cougars entered Oct. 10 leading the nation with a 65.6 percent third-down conversion rate. That dated figure points to an offense capable of extending drives, but it should not be mistaken for an updated rate after the Kansas State result.

The harder question is how much defensive resistance each offense encounters here. Houston’s latest defensive showing was encouraging, while Oklahoma State’s scoring streak makes a substantial step up in difficulty plausible. Results against different opponents help frame the matchup; they do not translate neatly into a four-point margin or a precise scoring pace.

Oklahoma St. Cowboys vs Houston Cougars spread prediction

Spread recommendation: Pass on Oklahoma State +3.5 (-110) and Houston -3.5 (-110). The Cowboys’ offensive form makes taking the points tempting, and the projected three-point Houston win would produce an Oklahoma State cover.

Still, a forecast landing half a point inside the spread is a fragile reason to pay -110. Houston’s balanced attack also creates a credible path to a larger victory. The winner preference is clearer than the spread value, so neither side earns an actionable recommendation.

Oklahoma St. Cowboys vs Houston Cougars total prediction

Total recommendation: Pass on Over 57.5 (-110) and Under 57.5 (-110). The projected 59 points gives the Over a slight numerical preference, with Oklahoma State’s scoring run and Houston’s offensive balance supplying the strongest arguments.

Houston holding Kansas State to 16 points is the counterweight. A few stalled possessions could erase the projection’s small cushion over the line. There is enough offensive evidence to anticipate scoring, but too little separation from 57.5 to make the Over the official wager.

Oklahoma St. Cowboys vs Houston Cougars projected score

Game forecast: Houston 31, Oklahoma State 28. Houston’s ability to produce through both the run and pass earns the narrow winner selection. Oklahoma State’s sustained scoring is the strongest counterargument and keeps confidence low.

The projection favors an Oklahoma State cover and a finish just above the total, but both margins are small. Spread recommendation: Pass. Total recommendation: Pass. The single official SportsJaw betting recommendation is Pass.
