Ohio State will beat Indiana 27-24 in our forecast, with Julian Sayin’s passing efficiency and Jeremiah Smith’s receiving production supplying the strongest reason to favor the Buckeyes. Indiana’s disruptive defense makes that a narrow, low-confidence choice. Neither Ohio State -3 (-108) nor the 50.5 total offers enough projected value for an actionable wager, so the official SportsJaw betting lean is Pass.

Ohio St. Buckeyes vs Indiana Hoosiers prediction and best bet

Ohio State gets the nod because its passing attack offers a compelling route through a difficult defensive matchup. Sayin’s efficiency and Smith’s scoring production suggest the Buckeyes can generate enough offense even if Indiana makes sustained rushing success difficult. The forecast is Ohio State 27, Indiana 24.

The best betting decision is Pass. Indiana brings both defensive disruption and a productive quarterback, making a decisive Ohio State advantage difficult to identify. A three-point projected margin lands exactly on the spread, while 51 projected points sit only half a point above the total. Neither difference warrants paying the supplied price.

Ohio St. Buckeyes outlook

Sayin entered with 1,772 passing yards, 17 touchdowns and two interceptions through six games, averaging 10.9 yards per attempt. That combination gives Ohio State a persuasive offensive case: substantial passing production without a large interception count. Against a defense capable of forcing unfavorable downs, his ability to gain yards efficiently is central to the forecast.

Smith had 48 catches for 916 yards and 11 touchdowns over those six games. His production is the clearest individual reason to back Ohio State to make a decisive offensive play. Indiana must account for both his involvement and his scoring threat, although those numbers alone do not guarantee a favorable matchup on every possession.

The Buckeyes will be without Ja'Kobi Jackson, and Austin Siereveld was set to miss a second consecutive game. Those absences add uncertainty without a supported estimate of their effect. Ohio State also entered with a 29-4 road record under Ryan Day and was seeking its second ranked road victory of 2026. That experience strengthens the case for handling the setting, but carries less weight than the current personnel matchup.

Indiana Hoosiers outlook

Hoover gives Indiana a credible answer through the air. Through six games, he had completed 68.2% of his passes for 1,364 yards, 17 touchdowns and zero interceptions. Matching Sayin’s touchdown total while avoiding interceptions is a meaningful counterargument to treating Ohio State’s passing advantage as decisive.

Indiana’s receiving production is spread across two prominent targets. Charlie Becker had 30 catches for 529 yards and eight touchdowns; Nick Marsh had 29 catches for 526 yards and six scores. Their nearly equal yardage totals give the Hoosiers more than one established receiving option.

The backfield adds another dimension. Turbo Richard had 597 rushing yards and five touchdowns on 71 carries, while Lee Beebe Jr. had 551 yards and four touchdowns on 98 attempts. Indiana can draw on production from both backs rather than asking Hoover to carry the entire offensive burden.

The defense supplies the strongest challenge to the prediction: 49 tackles for loss, 20 sacks and just 2.31 rushing yards allowed per attempt. Those results point toward a plausible Indiana win if the Hoosiers turn early-down stops into difficult passing situations.

Key matchup factors

The central question is whether Ohio State’s passing efficiency survives Indiana’s disruption. A sack or tackle for loss can erase the benefit of a productive early play. Conversely, successful throws beyond the sticks can allow the Buckeyes to score without consistently winning on the ground. That tension favors a close forecast rather than a comfortable favorite.

Indiana also has the stronger sack total, 20 to Ohio State’s nine. That comparison makes Hoover’s protection worth watching, but sack counts alone do not tell us how either line will perform in this game. The forecast should leave room for Indiana to sustain its own offense.

At the October 17, 11:08 UTC consensus update, the combined spread measure favored Ohio State at 63%, up one percentage point from the previous day. SportsJaw members and qualified handicappers each favored Indiana at 60%. The sportsbook spread split favored Ohio State at 69%. These are separate measures of selection preference, not Ohio State’s chance of winning or covering.

Ohio St. Buckeyes vs Indiana Hoosiers spread prediction

Spread recommendation: Pass on Ohio State -3 (-108) and Indiana +3 (-110). Ohio State is the winner pick, but the projected three-point victory would push either spread. There is no projected cushion for a Buckeyes cover.

Indiana’s defensive production makes taking the points tempting, especially with member and qualified-handicapper preferences on its side. Still, Ohio State’s passing output is a substantial obstacle. The competing cases are strong enough to keep this market off the official betting card.

Ohio St. Buckeyes vs Indiana Hoosiers total prediction

Total recommendation: Pass on Over 50.5 (-108) and Under 50.5 (-110). Both quarterbacks bring 17 touchdown passes, and both offenses have productive receiving targets. Those facts support a forecast with scoring opportunities for each team.

Indiana’s defensive front supplies the main reason for restraint. Negative plays could stall enough Ohio State possessions to pull the game below the number. The combined total consensus favors Over at 58%, but that preference is not an estimated probability of cashing the wager. A 51-point projection is too close to 50.5 to justify an official Over recommendation.

Ohio St. Buckeyes vs Indiana Hoosiers Projected Score & Betting Picks

Projected score: Ohio State 27, Indiana 24. Sayin’s efficiency and Smith’s receiving production give the Buckeyes the narrow editorial edge. Indiana’s defensive disruption, supported by Hoover’s interception-free passing, is the strongest argument for the opposite result.

Confidence is low because the matchup contains substantial evidence in both directions. Ohio State remains the projected winner, while both the spread and total recommendations remain Pass. The single official SportsJaw betting lean is Pass.
