Washington Huskies vs Purdue Boilermakers Betting Picks & Predictions

Game time: October 16, 2026 at 8:00 PM ET

Venue: Ross-Ade Stadium — West Lafayette, IN

Article updated Oct 16, 7:12 AM EDT

By SportsJaw Editorial Team

Purdue will beat Washington 27-24 in our forecast for October 16, with its recent rushing production providing the strongest matchup reason to favor the Boilermakers. Washington’s quarterback uncertainty adds to that lean, but Elijah Brown’s productive relief appearance makes a close finish plausible. Neither Purdue -3.5 (-105) nor the 50.5 total offers a strong enough edge for an official wager.

Washington Huskies vs Purdue Boilermakers prediction and best bet

Purdue is the projected winner, but the best betting decision is Pass. Its consecutive conference victories and productive running game give the Boilermakers a modest advantage. That advantage is less convincing against a spread requiring them to win by at least four points.

Washington’s quarterback situation is a reason for caution on both sides. Demond Williams Jr.’s rib injury complicates the Huskies’ outlook, while Brown’s performance against Iowa shows they retain a credible passing threat. The forecast favors Purdue by three points, with low confidence and no official wager.

Washington Huskies outlook

The October 12 quarterback update remains central to Washington’s outlook. Coach Jedd Fisch described Williams as day-to-day following his rib injury against Iowa. Williams missed practice that Monday, and Brown handled the first-team offensive reps. That report leaves Williams’ participation uncertain; it is not confirmation that he will miss the Purdue game.

Brown completed 28 of 39 passes for 251 yards and three touchdowns after Williams exited the October 9 loss to Iowa, which Washington lost 41-24. His relief performance gives the Huskies a plausible way to compete through the air. One appearance, however, is a narrow foundation for projecting how he would handle a full game.

Williams had 1,076 career rushing yards as of Washington’s October 12 preview. His availability therefore matters beyond the passing game. Washington also brings a field-position asset in Hunter Green, whose 47.6-yard punting average led the Big Ten and ranked sixth in FBS entering this matchup.

Purdue Boilermakers outlook

Purdue defeated Illinois 24-17 on October 3 and Minnesota 41-13 on October 10. The Minnesota win featured 305 team rushing yards, including 195 yards and three touchdowns from Fame Ijeboi. His nine rushing touchdowns entering this game ranked second in the Big Ten and fifth nationally.

The passing production gives Purdue another avenue to attack. Through six games, Ryan Browne had completed 124 of 180 passes for 1,549 yards and nine touchdowns. Asaad Waseem contributed 29 receptions for 472 yards and one touchdown. Those numbers make the passing game a meaningful part of the forecast alongside Ijeboi.

Purdue’s defense held Minnesota to 27 rushing yards without a rushing first down. The Boilermakers are also 3-0 this season when allowing fewer than 20 points. Those are encouraging results, although repeating that defensive threshold against Washington is a separate challenge from containing Minnesota.

Key matchup factors

Purdue’s ability to sustain its rushing success is the biggest influence on this forecast. Another effective ground performance would give Browne more favorable situations and reduce the burden on the passing game. The caution is that Minnesota’s result alone cannot tell us how Washington will defend Ijeboi.

The previous meeting offers a counterweight: Washington won 49-13 on November 15, 2025, with Williams completing 16 of 19 passes for 257 yards and two touchdowns. That performance matters as matchup history, but a different season and his uncertain health limit its predictive weight.

SportsJaw’s October 16 consensus update at 10:54 UTC showed Washington +3.5 (-115) leading the blended spread selection at 51%. Community support was 56%, and qualified handicappers favored Washington at 57%. The combined modeled spread sample contained 663 selections, split 338 for Washington and 325 for Purdue; those figures are modeled equivalents, not observed sportsbook tickets. The blend uses 80% sportsbook weight and 20% SportsJaw weight. These are measures of selection preference, not win probabilities.

Washington Huskies vs Purdue Boilermakers spread prediction

Pass on the spread: Purdue -3.5 (-105) and Washington +3.5 (-115). Purdue’s recent results support picking it to win, but clearing the extra half-point beyond a field goal requires more conviction than this matchup warrants.

The projected three-point margin falls on Washington’s side of the spread. That makes the Huskies tempting, particularly with community and qualified-handicapper support. Still, a half-point difference between an editorial score projection and the line is too thin to justify Washington at -115 amid quarterback uncertainty. Neither side earns an actionable recommendation.

Washington Huskies vs Purdue Boilermakers total prediction

Pass on Over 50.5 (-108) and Under 50.5 (-110). The projected 51 points sit just above the total, leaving almost no room for confidence in an Over wager. Purdue’s recent defensive results favor restraint, while its offensive production and Brown’s relief outing keep a higher-scoring outcome plausible.

The consensus is divided across distinct groups. The sportsbook component favored Over at 72%, and the blended figure favored Over at 67%. SportsJaw members preferred Under at 53%, while qualified handicappers preferred Under at 56%. Those opposing preferences reinforce the decision to leave this market alone.

Washington Huskies vs Purdue Boilermakers Projected Score & Betting Picks

Game forecast: Purdue 27, Washington 24. Purdue’s recent ground production and passing complement earn the winning call. Washington’s strongest counterargument is Brown’s productive performance against Iowa, with Williams’ unresolved availability adding another source of uncertainty.

Confidence is low because the expected margin is narrow and Washington’s quarterback picture remains consequential. The single official SportsJaw betting lean is Pass. Purdue is the predicted winner; neither the supplied spread nor the total earns a wager.
