Minnesota Golden Gophers vs Purdue Boilermakers Predictions October 10, 2026

Game time: October 10, 2026 at 8:00 PM ET

Venue: Ross-Ade Stadium — West Lafayette, IN

Article updated Oct 5, 1:01 AM EDT

By SportsJaw Editorial Team

Minnesota will beat Purdue 24-23, with its defense’s second-half shutout of Michigan providing the strongest reason to favor the Golden Gophers. Purdue’s efficient passing performance at Illinois makes this a low-confidence prediction, however. Neither Minnesota -2.5 (-110), Purdue +2.5 (-110) nor the total of 51.5 offers a demonstrated betting edge. The official SportsJaw recommendation is Pass.

Minnesota Golden Gophers vs Purdue Boilermakers prediction and best bet

Minnesota gets the straight-up pick after consecutive victories over Washington and Michigan. Its defense supplied the decisive plays against Michigan, giving the Gophers a plausible route to another narrow win even if their offense has an uneven night.

The best betting decision is Pass. Purdue’s performance at Illinois makes the underdog competitive, but a competitive game alone is not enough to recommend Purdue +2.5 (-110). The projected one-point margin is an editorial estimate, and the evidence behind that precise margin is too thin to treat it as a reliable advantage over the spread.

Minnesota Golden Gophers outlook

Minnesota beat Michigan 20-14 on October 3 after winning 27-24 at Washington on September 26. Those victories offer two recent examples of the Gophers finishing close games, including one away from home. They support the winner selection without suggesting Minnesota should pull away comfortably.

Drake Lindsey’s Michigan performance included both the concern and the promise in this offense. He threw two first-half interceptions, then connected with Darius Taylor for the go-ahead touchdown early in the fourth quarter. Minnesota overcame those mistakes, but repeating them would give Purdue opportunities to take control.

The defensive response was more convincing. Aydan West and Zack Harden intercepted passes after halftime, setting up scores, and Michigan never scored in the second half. Bryce Underwood finished 10-for-21 for 101 passing yards and gained 20 rushing yards on 10 attempts. That is a strong recent defensive outing, though it remains one game rather than a guarantee against another quarterback.

Purdue Boilermakers outlook

Purdue’s 24-17 win at Illinois on October 3 came through better finishing rather than a yardage advantage. Both teams gained 345 yards. Purdue converted all four red-zone trips, while Illinois converted two of four. That distinction matters when assessing whether the Boilermakers can repeat the result.

Ryan Browne completed 18 of 27 passes for 255 yards and one touchdown, with a 158.2 passer rating. Asaad Waseem caught three passes for a team-high 98 yards, while Chauncey Magwood contributed four catches for 54 yards. Their production gives Purdue a credible passing-game counter to Minnesota’s recent defensive success.

Fame Ijeboi added 65 rushing yards on 19 carries. Defensively, Purdue limited Illinois to 2-for-6 on third down after halftime and stopped a fourth-down attempt at the Purdue 17. Recovering the late onside kick completed the win. Those plays show how Purdue protected a narrow lead, although projecting another perfect red-zone performance would be optimistic.

Key matchup factors

The key question is which offense makes better use of limited opportunities. Minnesota benefited from interceptions against Michigan; Purdue benefited from converting its red-zone visits against Illinois. Both are meaningful strengths from their latest games, but neither should be assumed to recur at the same rate.

Browne’s passing is the strongest counterargument to the Minnesota forecast. If Purdue sustains that efficiency, the Gophers may need more from their offense than they produced against Michigan. Conversely, another turnover-filled start from Lindsey would put unnecessary pressure on Minnesota’s defense.

The October 5 SportsJaw consensus update, timestamped 04:49 UTC, favors Purdue +2.5 (-110) at 75%. Its combined consensus count is 450 Purdue selections to 150 Minnesota selections across 600 modeled equivalent selections. This incorporates a modeled sportsbook sample and SportsJaw participation; it is not a count of observed sportsbook tickets or a standalone member vote. The sportsbook split also favors Purdue at 75%. Neither percentage is a win probability.

Minnesota Golden Gophers vs Purdue Boilermakers spread prediction

Spread recommendation: Pass on Minnesota -2.5 (-110) and Purdue +2.5 (-110). The projected Minnesota victory by one point falls on Purdue’s side of the spread, but that small difference is too sensitive to a single scoring play to justify a wager from these recent results alone.

Purdue’s consensus support is useful context, not independent proof of value. Minnesota has a reasonable winning case, and Purdue has a reasonable covering case. Neither is strong enough at the supplied price to become the official bet.

Minnesota Golden Gophers vs Purdue Boilermakers total prediction

Total recommendation: Pass on Over 51.5 (-110) and Under 51.5 (-110). The 24-23 forecast totals 47 points and therefore points toward the Under, but conviction in that direction is limited.

Both teams allowed fewer than 20 points in their October 3 victories. Still, Purdue’s passing production and Minnesota’s recent interceptions illustrate different ways scoring chances could change quickly. Two defensive results are not enough to price the next game confidently, especially when red-zone finishing played such a large role in Purdue’s win.

Minnesota Golden Gophers vs Purdue Boilermakers projected score

Game forecast: Minnesota Golden Gophers 24, Purdue Boilermakers 23. Minnesota’s recent defensive performance gives it the slight edge, with the Washington victory adding evidence that it can finish a close road game.

Purdue’s efficient passing against Illinois is the strongest threat to that selection. Confidence is low because the forecast rests on a narrow advantage and a short recent sample. Minnesota is the predicted winner; both betting markets are passes. The single official SportsJaw betting recommendation is Pass.
