USC Trojans vs Penn St. Nittany Lions Predictions October 10, 2026

Game time: October 10, 2026 at 7:30 PM ET

Venue: Beaver Stadium — University Park, PA

Article updated Oct 3, 11:59 PM EDT

By SportsJaw Editorial Team

USC is projected to beat Penn State 27-24 on Oct. 10, 2026, with its defensive finish against Washington providing the strongest recent reason to favor the Trojans. Penn State’s takeaway production offers a credible counterweight at home. Confidence is low, and neither USC +1.5 (-110) nor the total of 58.5 (-110) offers a sufficiently clear edge for an official wager.

USC Trojans vs Penn St. Nittany Lions prediction and best bet

USC gets the narrow nod after completing a comeback against Washington, while Penn State enters this matchup following a 21-point loss at Northwestern. The Trojans’ latest defensive finish tips the forecast their way, but comparing two games against different opponents leaves considerable uncertainty.

The official betting decision is Pass. USC’s recent result makes it the editorial choice to win; it does not make the Trojans an automatic bargain as a small underdog. Penn State’s ability to generate takeaways is a meaningful threat to that projection.

Odds, game time and how to watch

Game: USC Trojans at Penn St. Nittany Lions, Oct. 10, 2026, in the 2026 college football season.

SportsJaw spread and moneyline: USC +1.5 (-110) and +102; Penn State -1.5 (-110) and -124.

SportsJaw total: Over 58.5 (-110) or Under 58.5 (-110).

USC Trojans outlook

USC beat Washington 25-21 on Oct. 3 after trailing 21-10 in the second half. The Trojans scored the final 15 points, held Washington scoreless in the fourth quarter and ended its last threat with a fourth-down stop. That recovery supports the forecast, although needing a comeback also keeps the performance in perspective.

Jayden Maiava threw for 245 yards, one touchdown and one interception. Tanook Hines caught a 10-yard touchdown pass, but the decisive score came from defensive tackle Jahkeem Stewart’s 48-yard fumble return. USC showed multiple ways to produce a winning play; repeating a defensive touchdown is a much less dependable expectation than moving the ball consistently.

Linebacker Desman Stephens missed the Washington game because of a one-game suspension, and Ta'Mere Robinson started in his place. That personnel detail applies to the Washington game and should not be read as a confirmed lineup for Penn State.

Penn St. Nittany Lions outlook

Penn State’s 34-13 loss at Northwestern on Oct. 2 raises concerns about its offensive balance. Carson Hansen was its leading rusher with 19 yards and scored a touchdown. That figure belongs to Hansen, rather than the entire team, but it still highlights how limited the leading individual rushing contribution was.

Rocco Becht completed 26 of 41 passes for 243 yards and a touchdown. Chase Sowell supplied five catches for 68 yards and a score. Brett Eskildsen caught six passes for 45 yards, while Ben Brahmer had five receptions for 45 yards. Penn State recorded only one completion of at least 20 yards in that game.

There were defensive positives within the defeat. Penn State allowed 93 passing yards, and Tony Rojas recorded 12 tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss and a sack. Kooper Ebel added 11 tackles. Those contributions deserve weight without obscuring the 34 points Northwestern scored.

Key matchup factors

Turnovers are the clearest swing factor. Penn State has nine takeaways through its Northwestern game: four fumble recoveries and five interceptions. Maiava’s latest interception gives that threat relevance, although one interception is not evidence of a persistent problem.

Penn State also has a stronger season-long explosive-play record than its latest outing suggests. Its 21 gains of at least 20 yards include 18 passing plays and three rushing plays. Becht has thrown eight touchdown passes covering at least 15 yards. USC cannot assume the limited downfield output at Northwestern will carry over.

The White Out setting is another reason to keep the forecast close, but assigning it a specific scoring advantage would overstate the evidence. The central question is whether Penn State can turn its passing options and defensive disruption into a more complete performance.

USC Trojans vs Penn St. Nittany Lions spread prediction

Spread recommendation: Pass on USC +1.5 (-110) and Penn State -1.5 (-110). The projected USC victory points toward the underdog, but the supporting edge rests heavily on the teams’ latest results.

The extra 1.5 points would protect a USC bet against a one-point defeat, not a broader range of close losses. With Penn State’s takeaway production challenging the forecast, that cushion is too small to turn a fragile winner selection into an official spread wager.

USC Trojans vs Penn St. Nittany Lions total prediction

Total recommendation: Pass on Over 58.5 (-110) and Under 58.5 (-110). The projected 51 points fall below the line, and the teams’ latest games finished with 46 and 47 points, respectively.

Those results alone are insufficient grounds for an Under bet. USC benefited from a defensive touchdown, while Penn State conceded 34 points despite limiting passing yardage. Takeaways can stop scoring chances or create short fields, so defensive disruption does not reliably favor one total direction. The score forecast carries more uncertainty than its exact numbers suggest.

USC Trojans vs Penn St. Nittany Lions projected score

Game forecast: USC 27, Penn State 24. USC’s comeback and defensive finish supply the narrow deciding edge. Penn State’s season-long takeaway production and explosive passing plays are the strongest counterargument, especially with the Nittany Lions at home.

Confidence is low. USC is the projected winner, but neither the spread nor total warrants a bet at the supplied prices. The single official SportsJaw betting lean is Pass.
