Towson (8-1 SU, 5-4 ATS) meets Clemson (7-2 SU, 4-5 ATS) in a non-conference matchup on Wednesday night at 9pm ET at Littlejohn Coliseum in South Carolina.
Warriors on the road
This will be Towson's toughest test thus far this season as they are 4-0 on the road. They only lost to Fairfield (74-69) in a tournament in Savannah, Ga. on Nov. 25. As a 20-point favorite on Dec. 2, the Tigers won three straight games, including 74-64 at LIU. This season, the Tigers have played just two home games against Albany (67-62) and Coppin State (83-67).
On Friday, they were down by two at halftime and then outscored the Sharks by 12 in the second half. Graduate student Cam Holden led the Tigers with 22 points and five assists on 9-of-15 shooting, while senior center Charles Thompson added 13 points, 15 rebounds and three blocks. Due to an ankle injury suffered during the game, sophomore guard Radhir Hicks played just 15 minutes for Towson. Towson has only Seton Hall transfer Ryan Conway as a point guard, while Holden is the team's "forward".
A second meeting between Brownell and Towson is scheduled
Brownell has been at Clemson since the 2010-11 season and is 225-168 with three NCAA Tournament berths. At UNCW Wilmington from 2002-06, where he faced Towson twice a year, he had two NCAA Tournament bids. In four seasons at Wright State, Brownell had tremendous success and has been a mainstay at a football school. He probably wouldn't be here if Clemson had the prestige of North Carolina or Duke.
