Game outlook

Arkansas is on the road playing LSU at the Pete Maravich Assembly Center stadium on Wednesday, 12/28/2022 @ 9:00pm EST. Arkansas -5.5 was the opening favorite and current line is Arkansas -4.

The LSU Tigers host the Arkansas Razorbacks on Wednesday night at Pete Maravich Assembly Center in the SEC opener for both teams. Neither of these teams have lost a game so far this season, with Arkansas riding a seven-game winning streak and LSU on a six-game winning streak. Last year, Arkansas swept the season series, winning all three showdowns, including the conference tournament, so LSU will definitely be seeking revenge. No doubt, this will be one of Wednesday's most compelling games, and it will have a profound effect on the SEC race when all is said and done.

The Razorbacks are on the move

Arkansas is off to a quick start this season, but Wednesday's matchup is their first true road game. As the season has progressed, the schedule has become less and less impressive, with the lone loss coming to Creighton in Hawaii. While their most impressive win so far appears to be over San Diego State, they certainly have more to prove. This team has competed in the SEC for the last few seasons. With hopes high for another crucial conference run, they know they have to start with a win. They can't take this matchup lightly, on either side of the ball, especially after winning three games against LSU last season.

Injury concerns have plagued this team so far this season, and while the wins have continued to pile up, it might get more challenging over the next month. The season has been ruled out for Trevon Brazile (knee), a key transfer addition. Also, highly-touted freshman Nick Smith Jr. (knee) continues to miss time, further depleting their depth.

Revenge is on the minds of the Tigers

Following a three-game sweep against the Razorbacks last season, LSU simply wants revenge in this game. In addition to staying at home for the SEC opener, the Tigers would love nothing more than to make it seven straight wins. Arkansas' schedule has appeared easy at times this season, but LSU's doesn't even compare. This team has quite a bit to prove. There is not a single win over a team destined for the NCAA Tournament. Their lone loss came to Kansas State. With an 8-0 record at home, they should gain some momentum and confidence, especially as they look to spring an upset at the end of the year.

Likewise, the Tigers have a pair of injuries to worry about. Cornelius Williams (shoulder) remains out, though he has yet to appear in a game. With ten games played, Mwani Wilkinson (undisclosed) could miss this midweek game with his depth.

In spite of some absences, the Razorbacks still have too much depth to falter. A trip to LSU for the Razorbacks' first true road game seems less daunting after some nice neutral site wins during the regular season. A stout Arkansas defense will prevent Williams from finding success as easily as he did during the non-conference slate. Arkansas has also been 9-1 ATS in its last ten road games, while LSU has been 0-5 ATS in its last five home games and 1-5 ATS in its last six games.

Arkansas Highlights

With a power ranking of 2, Arkansas is ranked #57 in offense (scoring an average of 79.42 per game), #38 in defense (allowing an average of 61.92 points to be scored against them per game) and are 11-1 (7-4-1 ATS) this season.

LSU Highlights

LSU Tigers has a power ranking of 109 and are #166 for offense (scoring an average of 73.00 per game), #71 for defense (giving up an average of 61.92 points per game) and 11-1 (4-8 ATS) overall. Arkansas went 0-3 (1-2 ATS) in their last 3 matchups against LSU.
