The Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders and Belmont Bruins meet Saturday in college basketball action at the Curb Event Center. Middle Tennessee is 4-2 overall this season. In their last game, the Blue Raiders defeated Maryville (TN). Belmont is 6-4 on the season and is coming off a win over Trevecca Nazarene.
It has been an average start for Middle Tennessee
Over their first four games, Middle Tennessee finished 2-2, losing to Winthrop and Missouri State. After beating Hofstra, Stephen F. Austin, and Montana State, the Raiders lost to St. Bonaventure.
Middle Tennessee won last weekend versus Maryville (TN). The Raiders led 41-25 at halftime and won 69-46. Camryn Weston led the team with 12 points and eight boards.
In Belmont's first four games, they lost to Furman, Lipscomb and Tarleton State. Before losing to Illinois State, the Bruins beat George Mason, Howard, Georgia State, and Valparaiso.
Early lead will be critical for Belmont
On Tuesday, the Bruins led Trevecca Nazarene by 20 points at halftime. Belmont scored another 37 points to win 83-53. Sheppard led the team with 16 points and four assists.
After a pretty easy game against Trevecca Nazarene, the Bruins are back above .500. During this current 5-1 run, Belmont has scored 68 or more points in each of its last five games. Outside of a few blemishes, Middle Tennessee is doing pretty well this season. I think the Bruins can keep a cover pace if Belmont is on point. The Raiders have scored less than 70 points in four of their last six games.
