Cent. Connecticut St. Blue Devils vs Syracuse Orange prediction, odds and best bet for Nov. 5

Game time: November 5, 2026 at 7:00 PM ET

Venue: JMA Wireless Dome — Syracuse, NY

Article updated Nov 4, 11:00 PM EST

By SportsJaw Editorial Team

Syracuse will beat Central Connecticut State, with a projected score of Syracuse 75, Central Connecticut State 56. The Orange's opening production from three scorers, including two players with double-doubles, gives them the stronger starting point for this matchup. Neither Syracuse -21.5 (-110) nor the total of 138.5 offers a convincing betting edge from these early results. The official recommendation is Pass.

Cent. Connecticut St. Blue Devils vs Syracuse Orange prediction and best bet

Syracuse is the pick to win this November 5 men's college basketball matchup in the 2026-27 season. Its opener offered several contributors to build around, while Central Connecticut State must improve on a 56-point performance at Temple. That contrast favors the Orange, although it leaves considerable room for uncertainty about the margin.

The best betting decision is Pass. A likely Syracuse victory is easier to forecast than a cover at -21.5, and two opening games against different opponents are too small a sample to justify an Under wager. The projected result is an editorial judgment, with low confidence in the precise scoring and margin.

Cent. Connecticut St. Blue Devils outlook

Central Connecticut State lost its November 2 opener at Temple, 68-56. Ashton Reynolds scored 18 points off the bench, accounting for nearly a third of the team's scoring. His performance gives the Blue Devils an encouraging individual result, but the broader offensive outlook remains unsettled after one game.

The useful question is whether Central Connecticut State can find more scoring alongside Reynolds. His opener suggests he can contribute without starting; it does not mean the Blue Devils should expect him to carry the same share every night. More contributions elsewhere would give them greater flexibility if Syracuse limits his opportunities.

Syracuse's official preview reports that the Blue Devils finished last season 18-12 overall and 12-6 in Northeast Conference play. Returning junior guard James Jones averaged 4.2 points and 5.6 rebounds. Those figures supply background on a returning contributor, rather than a forecast of what this season's team will produce.

Syracuse Orange outlook

Syracuse beat New Haven 74-58 in its November 2 opener. FingerLakes1 identifies the victory as Gerry McNamara's head-coaching debut, while Syracuse's official preview notes that the Orange led by as many as 28 points. Building that lead was encouraging; the final result also illustrates why a large advantage during the game need not become an equally large winning margin.

Kiyan Anthony supplied 17 points off the bench. Gavin Doty added 14 points and 13 rebounds, and Sadiq White Jr. contributed 14 points and 10 rebounds. That distribution is the strongest positive in Syracuse's case: the opener featured meaningful scoring from multiple players and substantial individual rebounding production.

Doty and White's double-doubles are promising, but they should not be treated as proof of a team rebounding advantage over Central Connecticut State. The forecast rests on their demonstrated contributions, with another opponent presenting a different test.

Key matchup factors

The central matchup question is whether Syracuse's multiple contributors can keep Central Connecticut State from concentrating its defensive attention on one scorer. If Anthony, Doty and White remain productive, the Orange should have several ways to sustain their offense. That is the primary reason to favor Syracuse.

Both teams received their leading scoring performance from a reserve in the opener. Bench minutes therefore deserve attention, particularly if either team's initial rotation struggles. Reynolds offers the clearest counterargument to an easy Syracuse win: another strong performance could help the Blue Devils stay within reach.

The opponents in those openers were different. Comparing Syracuse's 16-point victory directly with Central Connecticut State's 12-point defeat would exaggerate what the results reveal about this particular matchup.

Cent. Connecticut St. Blue Devils vs Syracuse Orange spread prediction

Spread recommendation: Pass on Syracuse -21.5 (-110) and Cent. Connecticut St. +21.5 (-110). The projected 19-point Syracuse victory falls on the underdog side of the number, but the small cushion is fragile.

Syracuse's ability to build a 28-point lead in its opener keeps a comfortable cover plausible. Conversely, Central Connecticut State could improve on its first offensive showing. Neither possibility carries enough weight to make either spread price an official wager.

Cent. Connecticut St. Blue Devils vs Syracuse Orange total prediction

Total recommendation: Pass on Over 138.5 (-115) and Under 138.5 (-105). The opening games produced 132 and 124 combined points, respectively, so a lower-scoring forecast is reasonable. Those results alone are not a reliable measure of this game's pace or shooting.

The projected 131 points favor the Under directionally. The risk is that Central Connecticut State improves offensively while Syracuse repeats or exceeds its opening output. With only one result per team, the apparent gap beneath 138.5 is too uncertain to back.

Cent. Connecticut St. Blue Devils vs Syracuse Orange Projected Score & Betting Picks

Projected score: Syracuse Orange 75, Cent. Connecticut St. Blue Devils 56. Syracuse's range of opening contributors earns the winner selection. Reynolds and the possibility of broader offensive improvement provide the strongest challenge to the projected margin.

Confidence is low. The forecast lands below both Syracuse's required covering margin and the total, but neither difference warrants a bet. The single official SportsJaw betting recommendation is Pass.
