Buffalo Bulls vs Pittsburgh Panthers prediction, odds and best bet for Nov. 5

Game time: November 5, 2026 at 7:00 PM ET

Venue: Petersen Events Center — Pittsburgh, PA

Article updated Nov 4, 10:33 PM EST

By SportsJaw Editorial Team

Pittsburgh will beat Buffalo, with a projected score of Panthers 83, Bulls 66. Pittsburgh's efficient passing in its opener supplies the strongest matchup advantage against a Buffalo team coming off a poor shooting performance. The supplied prices offer no compelling wager: Pittsburgh -18.5 demands more than our projected margin, while the case for Under 151.5 remains too fragile. The official recommendation is Pass.

Buffalo Bulls vs Pittsburgh Panthers prediction and best bet

Pittsburgh is the winner pick because its opening performance offered the more convincing offensive foundation. The Panthers paired productive passing with scoring from multiple players, while Buffalo struggled collectively despite two strong individual performances. That makes Pittsburgh the more persuasive choice at home, although one game apiece leaves considerable uncertainty about the margin.

The official betting recommendation is Pass. Our forecast favors Pittsburgh by 17 points, slightly short of the spread, and produces 149 total points. Neither difference is large enough to justify a wager given how little these teams have played. Picking the winner is easier here than finding an attractive price.

SportsJaw odds: Buffalo Bulls +18.5 (-105); Pittsburgh Panthers -18.5 (-112). Moneyline: Buffalo Bulls +1,500; Pittsburgh Panthers -3,400. Total: Over 151 (-110); Under 151 (-110).

Buffalo Bulls outlook

Buffalo's November 4 preview reports a 92-65 loss at Marshall on November 2. Antoine Lorick supplied 28 points and 15 rebounds, and Drew Steffe scored 19. Together, they accounted for 47 of Buffalo's 65 points. Their production offers a reason to expect some resistance, but the Bulls need more help around them.

Buffalo shot 37.1% overall and made 5 of 27 three-pointers. Those results explain the opening offensive difficulty without proving that another poor shooting night is inevitable. A better perimeter performance would change the challenge for Pittsburgh and make a large winning margin harder to achieve.

The same preview reports only 42 returning points from the team's 2,497 points in 2025-26, alongside 10 incoming transfers. J.J. Starling brings 1,530 career points and a 13.2-point career scoring average. His experience is relevant, but it should not be mistaken for evidence that this new group already has a settled offensive identity.

Pittsburgh Panthers outlook

Pittsburgh's November 4 preview details a 95-57 opening win over Rider on November 2. Chase Foster contributed 23 points, six rebounds, three steals and two blocks. His 23 points set the program record for a freshman debut. Jonathan Powell added 18 points while making 6 of 9 three-pointers.

The passing numbers are particularly encouraging: Pittsburgh finished with 21 assists and 10 turnovers. Naithan George, A'lahn Sumler and Jalil Bethea combined for 17 assists against one turnover. That performance is the clearest reason to favor the Panthers' offensive execution, though repeating it against Buffalo remains a projection.

Powell's shooting also cuts both ways for this forecast. It shows what Pittsburgh received from the perimeter against Rider, but expecting another six made threes from him would put too much weight on one outing.

Key matchup factors

The central question is whether Pittsburgh can sustain its passing efficiency while Buffalo finds more scoring beyond its opening leaders. Our forecast gives the Panthers the advantage in execution, but it allows the Bulls a modest scoring improvement. The teams faced different opponents, so their opening margins are not a direct measure of the gap between them.

SportsJaw's spread consensus is divided. The blend favors Pittsburgh -18.5 (-112) at 54%, and the external consensus favors that side at 56%. SportsJaw members favor Buffalo +18.5 (-104) at 56%. The overall consensus update is November 5 at 03:19 UTC. These are measures of selection support, not probabilities that either team will cover.

Dimers separately projects Pittsburgh to win 82-65 and assigns the Panthers a 93.3% win probability. That is Dimers' model estimate, not SportsJaw's forecast confidence. It agrees with our winner selection while suggesting a margin below the supplied 18.5-point spread.

Buffalo Bulls vs Pittsburgh Panthers spread prediction

Spread recommendation: Pass Buffalo +18.5 (-104) and Pittsburgh -18.5 (-112). Our projected 17-point margin points toward Buffalo against the number, but a 1.5-point cushion is too slender to make the Bulls an official selection with this much early-season uncertainty.

Dimers gives Pittsburgh a 51.5% cover probability at its displayed -16.5 spread. That estimate applies to a different line and should not be carried over to Pittsburgh -18.5. Meanwhile, Pittsburgh's strong opener makes it risky to assume Buffalo will stay close enough simply because the Bulls receive a large allowance.

Buffalo Bulls vs Pittsburgh Panthers total prediction

Total recommendation: Pass Over 151.5 (-105) and Under 151.5 (-115). Our 149-point forecast falls below the supplied total, and Dimers' 147-point projection also points lower. Buffalo's opening shooting struggles offer a plausible route to the under.

The counterargument carries weight: Pittsburgh scored 95 in its opener, and improved Buffalo shooting could lift the combined score. SportsJaw members favor Over 151.5 (-105) at 67%, differing from the direction of both score projections. Member preference is not an independent scoring forecast, but the disagreement belongs in the discussion. The modest projected cushion does not justify paying -115 for the under.

Buffalo Bulls vs Pittsburgh Panthers Projected Score & Betting Picks

Game forecast: Pittsburgh Panthers 83, Buffalo Bulls 66. Pittsburgh's opening passing performance earns the winner selection. Buffalo's strongest counterargument is the production already shown by Lorick and Steffe, plus the possibility of better shooting around them.

Forecast confidence is low because the projected margin and scoring environment rest on only one game per team. Pittsburgh remains the selected winner, but neither market offers enough separation from our forecast. Both the spread and total are passes, and the single official SportsJaw betting lean is Pass.
