Longwood Lancers vs St. Josephs Hawks prediction, odds and best bet

Game time: November 4, 2026 at 7:00 PM ET

Venue: Michael J. Hagan '85 Arena — Philadelphia, PA

Article updated Nov 3, 10:11 PM EST

By SportsJaw Editorial Team

St. Josephs Hawks will beat Longwood Lancers 79-69 in our November 4 forecast, with last season’s sustained defensive success providing the strongest reason to favor the hosts. Longwood’s balanced scoring in its opener offers a credible counterargument. Neither St. Josephs -9.5 nor the 149.5 total offers enough separation from our projection for an actionable wager. The official SportsJaw betting recommendation is Pass.

Longwood Lancers vs St. Josephs Hawks prediction and best bet

The pick is St. Josephs to win, with medium confidence. The Hawks won 24 games and reached the NIT quarterfinals in 2025-26, according to the university’s November 3 preview. That gives the home team a substantial prior-season foundation, although its first game of 2026-27 still requires a judgment about how much carries forward.

Longwood has already delivered an emphatic opening performance. The distinction for bettors is the margin: our forecast gives St. Josephs a 10-point victory, only half a point beyond the supplied spread. That is too small a cushion to make the favorite an official play. Best bet: Pass.

Longwood Lancers outlook

Longwood beat Pfeiffer 123-67 on November 2 after taking a 60-22 halftime lead. The university’s recap reported seven double-figure scorers and 82 points in the paint. Those results make scoring balance and interior production the most encouraging features of the Lancers’ start.

The Lancers shot 52-for-87 overall, made 11 three-pointers and finished with 23 assists against 11 turnovers. Jaylen Benard contributed 14 points on 6-for-10 shooting and 10 rebounds. MJ Williams added 12 points, five assists and three steals; Elijah Thomas and Will Dopfer each scored 12.

That distribution gives Longwood several potential contributors if one scorer struggles Wednesday. The question is how much of that efficiency survives this matchup. One game against Pfeiffer is an encouraging opening result, rather than a reliable estimate of what the Lancers will score against St. Josephs.

St. Josephs Hawks outlook

The strongest evidence behind the Hawks forecast is their finish to last season. Saint Joseph’s reported that, from January 4 through the end of 2025-26, the team went 16-5 and ranked 24th nationally in defensive efficiency, allowing 98.2 points per 100 possessions. That ranking applies to the specified stretch, not the full season.

The same preview reported defensive-efficiency marks of 65.2 for Jaiden Glover-Toscano and 65.7 for Austin Williford against the Atlantic 10’s top-10 scoring guards last season. Those figures offer narrower evidence of defensive success, although they are not direct measurements of how either player will fare against Longwood.

St. Josephs also added Logan Carey, who averaged 9.7 points and recorded 50 steals for Maine in 2025-26. His previous production is another encouraging piece. How the Hawks combine those contributions in their opener remains a meaningful uncertainty when asking them to cover nearly double digits.

Key matchup factors

The central matchup is Longwood’s ability to sustain interior offense against a team with a strong recent defensive history. Our forecast gives the Hawks’ extended performance more weight than the Lancers’ single scoring outburst, while allowing for the uncertainty of a new season.

Turnovers offer Longwood another route to a competitive game. The Lancers recorded 17 steals against Pfeiffer. If they can create extra possessions again, they could reduce their dependence on scoring against a set defense. Repeating that disruption is a possibility, not an assumed advantage.

Dimers independently favors St. Josephs in its November 3 update. Its 10,000-simulation model projects St. Josephs 80, Longwood 70 and assigns the Hawks an 83% win probability. Those are Dimers’ model estimates, not SportsJaw confidence ratings or community picks. The agreement on the winner adds perspective without proving betting value.

Longwood Lancers vs St. Josephs Hawks spread prediction

Spread recommendation: Pass on St. Josephs Hawks -9.5 (-110) and Longwood Lancers +9.5 (-110).

Our 10-point projected margin narrowly favors a Hawks cover. Dimers also projects a 10-point margin, but matching forecasts this close to the line leave little room for error. Neither turns a half-point difference into a dependable advantage.

Longwood’s scoring balance is the strongest reason to hesitate before laying the points. Conversely, backing the Lancers requires more confidence in their opener carrying over than we have. The winner forecast is clearer than either spread wager.

Longwood Lancers vs St. Josephs Hawks total prediction

Total recommendation: Pass on Over 149.5 (-106) and Under 149.5 (-114).

Our projection totals 148 points, while Dimers projects 150. That small disagreement places the supplied total between the two forecasts. It reflects uncertainty around the scoring level, rather than a compelling argument for either direction.

Longwood’s opening offense supplies the Over argument; the Hawks’ defensive history supplies the Under argument. Neither establishes the pace or shooting efficiency of this particular game. A 1.5-point gap below the line is insufficient for an official Under recommendation at -114.

Longwood Lancers vs St. Josephs Hawks Projected Score & Betting Picks

Game forecast: St. Josephs Hawks 79, Longwood Lancers 69. Confidence: medium. The Hawks’ sustained defensive performance last season is the strongest reason to select them, with home court contributing to the forecast.

The strongest counterargument is Longwood’s balanced, productive opener against a St. Josephs team yet to play this season. That uncertainty matters more when judging the margin and total than when selecting the likely winner. Both markets remain Pass, and the single official SportsJaw betting recommendation is Pass.
