IPFW Mastodons vs Duquesne Dukes Betting Picks & Predictions

Game time: November 3, 2026 at 7:00 PM ET

Venue: UPMC Cooper Fieldhouse — Pittsburgh, PA

Article updated Nov 3, 7:50 AM EST

By SportsJaw Editorial Team

Duquesne will beat IPFW, with a projected score of Duquesne 81, IPFW 73. The Dukes’ stronger 2025-26 rebounding and defensive shooting numbers give them the clearest matchup advantage. Purdue Fort Wayne’s ball security offers a credible response, however, and those previous-season comparisons leave too much uncertainty to justify either side at 10 points. The official betting recommendation is Pass.

IPFW Mastodons vs Duquesne Dukes prediction and best bet

Duquesne is the pick to win because its previous-season strengths address two important parts of this matchup: limiting shooting efficiency and securing rebounds. Those advantages offer a more convincing foundation for the forecast than Purdue Fort Wayne’s narrow lead in offensive shooting efficiency.

The distinction is price. Duquesne -10 (-110) requires a substantial winning margin, while IPFW +10 (-110) depends on the Mastodons containing the Dukes’ extra chances. Purdue Fort Wayne’s lower turnover rate gives the underdog a route to staying close, but its rebounding weakness threatens that route. Neither spread side earns an official wager. The best betting decision is Pass, with a low-confidence forecast of Duquesne 81, IPFW 73.

IPFW Mastodons outlook

Purdue Fort Wayne starts with an established scorer in DeAndre Craig. The senior averaged 14.0 points in 2025-26, reached double figures in 25 games and earned a place on the 2026-27 preseason All-Horizon League first team. The school identifies him as the conference’s second-leading returning scorer.

Craig scored 22 points in the October 28 exhibition victory over Ball State, 78-70. Ashton Williamson added 16, Anthony Isaac Jr. scored 15 and Edir Ortiz contributed 10. Those performances offer an encouraging introduction to the supporting cast, although one exhibition cannot tell us how consistently that scoring will carry into the regular season.

Williamson, Isaac and Ortiz are among five transfers joining a roster that also includes four true freshmen. That turnover makes continuity a central question when applying last season’s statistics. The Mastodons posted a 52.6% effective field-goal percentage and a 14.5% turnover rate in 2025-26, suggesting a useful combination of shooting and possession protection.

Rebounding was less encouraging: their offensive-rebound rate was 22.9%, and their defensive-rebound rate was 65.5%. Both trailed Duquesne. Tip-Off Status lists no reported injuries for this matchup but notes that official reports usually are not posted for this non-conference game. That listing is not confirmation of full availability.

Duquesne Dukes outlook

Duquesne finished 2025-26 at 18-15 overall and 9-9 in Atlantic 10 play. The Dukes beat Rhode Island in the conference tournament before losing 71-66 to VCU in the quarterfinals. Returning scoring leader Guinyard averaged 16.6 points and enters his redshirt-senior season, giving the forecast an identifiable offensive reference point.

The stronger team comparison comes on defense. Duquesne allowed a 52.5% effective field-goal percentage last season, compared with Purdue Fort Wayne’s 56.1%. If that relative advantage carries forward, the Dukes have a plausible way to make the Mastodons work harder for their offense while finding more favorable shooting opportunities themselves.

Duquesne also recorded a 30.4% offensive-rebound rate and a 70.4% defensive-rebound rate. The potential benefit is twofold: extend its own possessions and make Purdue Fort Wayne finish possessions with its first scoring opportunity. That is the strongest basketball reason to select the home team.

There is a meaningful weakness in the comparison. Duquesne’s 17.6% turnover rate exceeded Purdue Fort Wayne’s, while its 52.3% offensive effective field-goal percentage was slightly lower. A rebounding advantage can lose force if giveaways erase the extra opportunities. These are 2025-26 figures, so the forecast depends partly on how well those strengths and weaknesses translate to this season.

Key matchup factors

Watch which team controls the possession tradeoff. Duquesne’s rebounding profile favors the Dukes, but Purdue Fort Wayne’s lower turnover rate could offset some of those gains. The Mastodons also forced turnovers at a 19.1% rate last season, compared with Duquesne’s 18.4%, adding another possible route to narrowing the opportunity gap.

SportsJaw’s November 3 snapshot, updated at 00:03 UTC, shows stronger agreement on the total than the spread. Under 153.5 (-110) drew 69% community support and 73% among qualified handicappers. The spread community was evenly divided at 50%, with IPFW +10 (-110) listed as leader; qualified handicappers favored that side at 54%. These are pick preferences, not team win probabilities or sportsbook betting splits.

IPFW Mastodons vs Duquesne Dukes spread prediction

Pass on IPFW +10 (-110) and Duquesne -10 (-110). The eight-point projected margin points toward the Mastodons, but the forecast’s precision is too fragile to turn that two-point difference into a wager.

Purdue Fort Wayne’s ball security and Craig’s scoring make a competitive game plausible. Duquesne’s rebounding advantage is the strongest counterargument and could produce a wider margin. With the comparisons drawn from last season and several new Mastodons contributors, neither covering scenario is compelling enough at the supplied price.

IPFW Mastodons vs Duquesne Dukes total prediction

Pass on Over 153.5 (-110) and Under 153.5 (-110). The projected 154 points sit almost directly on the total. Last season’s pace figures were 69.0 possessions per game for Purdue Fort Wayne and 70.4 for Duquesne, but those figures alone do not settle scoring efficiency.

Duquesne’s offensive rebounding could create additional scoring chances, while its defensive shooting profile could restrain the Mastodons. The Under has clear SportsJaw consensus support. Without a stronger scoring case, that preference is insufficient to make it the official wager.

IPFW Mastodons vs Duquesne Dukes Projected Score & Betting Picks

Game forecast: Duquesne 81, IPFW 73. The Dukes get the selection because their previous-season defensive shooting and rebounding advantages offer the strongest combined matchup case. Guinyard’s return supplies an established scoring option alongside that statistical foundation.

The strongest challenge comes from Purdue Fort Wayne’s ability to protect possessions and Craig’s proven production. If the Mastodons limit giveaways and avoid being overwhelmed on the boards, they have a credible path to a tighter finish than projected.

Confidence is low because the forecast relies heavily on previous-season team comparisons, with only an exhibition offering a recent look at Purdue Fort Wayne’s new contributors. The official wager is Pass. Both the spread and total remain passes at the supplied SportsJaw prices.
