Colorado Rockies vs Chicago White Sox Predictions Today: Kyle Freeland vs Anthony Kay

Game time: September 27, 2026 at 3:10 PM ET

Venue: Rate Field — Chicago, Illinois

Article updated Sep 27, 12:43 AM EDT

By SportsJaw Editorial Team

The Chicago White Sox will beat the Colorado Rockies, with a projected score of White Sox 5, Rockies 3. Chicago’s stronger bullpen and Kyle Freeland’s recent struggles give the home team the edge for September 27. Anthony Kay’s uneven form makes that a low-confidence forecast, however, and neither the supplied run-line prices nor the 8.5 total offers an actionable wager.

Colorado Rockies vs Chicago White Sox prediction and best bet

Chicago is the pick to win, with its relief pitching the strongest separator. White Sox relievers have a 3.71 ERA and 1.26 WHIP, compared with Colorado’s 4.83 ERA and 1.44 WHIP. Freeland also enters after allowing eight earned runs across seven innings in his two most recent dated starts, giving Chicago a plausible route to an early lead.

The official betting recommendation is Pass. Kay’s 7.29 ERA over his last five starts makes a comfortable Chicago victory much harder to trust than the season numbers suggest. That uncertainty affects both the winning margin and the total. A White Sox forecast does not make either Chicago -1.5 (+100) or Under 8.5 (-115) an automatic bet.

Odds, game time and how to watch

Game: Colorado Rockies at Chicago White Sox, 2026 MLB season.

Time: Sunday, September 27, 2026, at 3:10 p.m. EDT.

Venue: Rate Field.

Broadcast: Rockies.TV and Chicago Sports Network.

Probable starters: Left-handers Kyle Freeland for Colorado and Anthony Kay for Chicago.

SportsJaw moneyline: Colorado +175; Chicago -210. Run line: Colorado +1.5 (-120); Chicago -1.5 (+100). Total: Over 8.5 (-105); Under 8.5 (-115). Chicago is the favorite, while Colorado receives 1.5 runs at the more expensive run-line price.

Colorado Rockies outlook

Freeland brings a 4-11 record, 6.58 ERA and 106 strikeouts into this matchup. His last-five-start ERA is lower at 5.48, but the two latest dated outings offer little reassurance. Against Arizona on September 22, he allowed nine hits and five runs, all earned, in three innings. He walked one, struck out two and allowed no home runs.

Against San Diego on September 15, Freeland surrendered eight hits and three runs, all earned, across four innings. All three runs came with three home runs allowed; he issued no walks and recorded one strikeout. Those outings illustrate two different problems: Arizona scored without a homer, while San Diego punished him with power.

There is a stronger performance in his record. At San Francisco on August 14, Freeland worked eight innings, allowing four hits, one earned run, one homer and one walk, with two strikeouts. Repeating that length would ease the burden on Colorado’s bullpen, which has covered 14 2/3 innings over its last three games while allowing 19 hits and nine earned runs. Colorado’s clearest opening is Kay’s recent vulnerability, but the Rockies need better run prevention of their own to capitalize.

Chicago White Sox outlook

Kay’s season line gives Chicago the more appealing starting point: a 9-9 record, 4.53 ERA and 125 strikeouts. His recent performance points the other way. Across his last five starts, Kay has a 7.29 ERA and an average of four innings per outing. That makes the bullpen central to the White Sox forecast.

Covers lists his September 22 start against Kansas City at four innings, seven hits and four runs, all earned, with one home run, one walk and four strikeouts. His September 16 appearance against Cleveland was better in earned-run terms: four innings, two hits, two runs, no earned runs, no homers, two walks and three strikeouts. Those two unearned runs still mattered to the game’s scoring.

Against Minnesota on September 5, Kay allowed six hits and five earned runs in 4 1/3 innings, with one homer, one walk and three strikeouts. Chicago therefore needs more than his season ERA to secure a comfortable win. Its relievers have allowed nine hits and six earned runs across 13 innings in the last three games. Their season advantage over Colorado supports the pick, although that recent workload leaves no reason to assume an effortless finish.

Key matchup factors

The key is how much work reaches the bullpens. Another short Freeland start would expose Colorado’s weaker relief numbers, while an early Kay exit would give the Rockies a chance to disrupt Chicago’s advantage. Neither lineup has a documented offensive split against left-handed pitching here, so the pitching comparison carries the forecast.

SportsJaw opinion favors the alternatives: Colorado +175 leads the community moneyline picks at 80%, and Under 8.5 (-115) leads the community total picks at 100%. The qualified-handicapper leaders match those selections and percentages. The consensus snapshot was updated September 27 at 00:31 UTC. Those are pick shares, not win probabilities, and they add disagreement to the Chicago forecast without supplying a betting edge.

Colorado Rockies vs Chicago White Sox spread prediction

Pass on Chicago White Sox -1.5 (+100) and Colorado Rockies +1.5 (-120). The projected two-run Chicago win would cover the favorite’s line, but Kay’s recent struggles make that margin fragile. One additional Colorado run would change the run-line result without changing the projected winner.

Taking Colorado’s cushion is also unappealing at -120. Freeland’s latest outings and the Rockies’ relief performance create a credible path to a larger loss. Chicago has the better pitching case overall, but neither side offers enough separation between the likely outcome and the supplied price.

Colorado Rockies vs Chicago White Sox total prediction

Pass on Over 8.5 (-105) and Under 8.5 (-115). The eight-run projection falls below the total, with Chicago’s bullpen the best reason to expect scoring to slow. That half-run difference is too narrow to carry an Under wager against these recent starting-pitcher results.

The Over has a plausible route through early scoring and extended relief work, particularly on Colorado’s side. Still, Freeland’s August outing and Kay’s September 16 line show that damaging earned-run totals are not inevitable. Without a stronger offensive case, neither direction earns an official selection.

Colorado Rockies vs Chicago White Sox projected score

Game forecast: Chicago White Sox 5, Colorado Rockies 3. Chicago’s season pitching advantage and the condition of Colorado’s recent relief results favor the White Sox in a game that could require substantial bullpen work. The forecast assumes Chicago does enough against Freeland to give its stronger relief unit a lead to protect.

The strongest counterargument is Kay. His last-five-start ERA is worse than Freeland’s, and another difficult opening could reverse the expected game pattern. Confidence is low because the season advantage and recent starter comparison pull in different directions. Chicago remains the projected winner, both the run line and total remain passes, and the single official SportsJaw betting lean is Pass.
